5 Ways to Help You Motivate Yourself

Motivation Is Key (2)

You’ve been feeling motionless and stationary and there is seemingly nothing that can be done to get you focused again. After all you have been dealing with quarantine, isolation from family, sickness, and changes at your job which can all lead to you having absolutely no motivation. Do not allow yourself to get stuck in a lackadaisical type of mood because it can easily lead to depression, anxiety, unhappiness, and despair. You can find the will to be productive again but it is going to take some determination. I have listed some ways below that can really help get you going in the right direction.

1. Just get up: This statement seems like it is so simple but it is so true. Sometimes you just have to get yourself up! Get yourself out of that lethargic coma and realize that there are so many ways that you could be productive if you just made that first move. Once you have made that decision it’s a matter of following through. Use a calendar to list everything that you want to accomplish each day. Start by completing a couple of activities and slowly progress into three or four things that you are going to take ownership of.

The crucial part of this strategy is implementation, you absolutely have to make it your goal to complete the process or it will not work. One of the main culprits of the lack of motivation is that you feel like you have no purpose. There is nothing that is giving you the desire to want to achieve anything. You have to put a stop to that mindset by knowing that as long as you have breath in your body, you unequivocally have purpose! Don’t watch your life go by knowing that all you have to show for it is an empty resume start today and Just Get Up!

2. Eat healthier: We all know that saying “You are what you eat” and it couldn’t be any truer. Most of us have a busy schedule trying to balance work, kids, activities, our relationships, friends, etc. What we tend to do is find the easiest meal to eat because we are in such a hurry that we don’t have the time for any other option. The problem with this method is that the majority of the food we choose on the go is not healthy. Junk food makes you less motivated, fatigued, slower to react, reluctant to make decisions, and hinders your mental awareness. This can have a long term effect on your body overall.

So what can you do about it? One of the main things that can be done for healthy eating is planning ahead of time. Make a chart of what you want to eat a week in advance so that you know what needs to be prepared which will prevent you from resorting to unhealthy food. Focus on not procrastinating knowing that all it will do is prevent you from enforcing healthier nourishment for your body. The reason this way of thinking will create such a problem is because waiting till the very last minute to choose your meal plan causes nothing but insufficient eating habits. Consuming a meal that is beneficial for you will not only enhance your mental state but it will help avoid added risk for emotions like discouragement and apprehension. Believe it or not harmful eating is linked to so many diseases and emotions not to mention it will exacerbate your lack of motivation.

3. Limit your time on social media: There is no harm in taking some recreational time to browse through your Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and so on. What is destructive is when it begins to absorb your entire day. Thirty minutes turns into two hours and then two hours turns into the rest of your day. Before you know it you are so fixated on your screen that you haven’t gotten off the couch to even stretch. It causes you to become dormant which produces a lack of enthusiasm to do anything.

Come up with a reasonable time limit on how long you give yourself on any social media platform. The only way that this is going to be effective is if you are honest with yourself and make reachable goals. At the end of the day, only you truly know what is adequate and realistic but you have to take it seriously if you want results. Another important step is to replace the moments spent on your phone, computer, or tablet with things that are productive. Find something creative that you are interested in and incorporate them into your daily routine. This will give you the drive that you need to want to work towards something which will limit the sense of idleness. Get yourself out of that sluggish frame of mind and get motivated!

4. Discover things you love:  One of the best ways to get yourself out of that lackluster slump is to discover things that you love but never found the time to do them. Lately you’ve just felt no aspiration to fulfill even the smallest tasks. Why? The reason is just that, they feel like tasks instead of something that you actually enjoy.

For Instance:

·         Start writing that book that you’ve always wanted to write but have been postponing for a “better time.”

·         Start that online business that you have been wanting to start but never revisited that idea.

·         Start reading those books that you left in the back of the bookshelf that you’ve been dying to read.

·         Start putting to use the new recipes that you have learned but just haven’t gotten around to it.

Motivation naturally comes when you are doing something that you take pleasure in. Don’t waste any more time just being stagnant when there is so much more that you could be accomplishing. Prevent yourself from making any more excuses and just get going. It really will all begin with you, one day at a time!

5. Get motivation from others: Sometimes all you need is that extra push to get you in motion. There are so many amazing motivational speakers that can get you refocused on gaining your excitement back. Find one that you can relate to and listen to them when you feel like you are lacking that influence inside you that you once had. Trust me it really does help.

I have listed below some of my favorite motivational speakers for your reference.

·         Priscilla Shirer

·         Sarah Jakes Roberts

·         Bishop T.D. Jakes

·         Pastor Sheryl Brady

·         Eric Thomas

You can find tons of motivational videos on any one of these speakers that I have listed. The main thing is that you want to choose someone that sparks a flame in your spirit. That is what it is going to take to bring out that passion that is still somewhere in there and get you back on track.

Another way to get motivated is to gain inspiration from the people close to you. Maybe you have a friend, relative, or your spouse that you know always has all of the right words to say. Sit down with them and have an authentic conversation on how you have been feeling. Nine times out of ten they know you very well and will be able to give you helpful advice.
