Know Your Enemy-He Devises Evil by Law
Some of the most important things that you need to realize as a believer of Jesus Christ is that life is completely spiritual and that you are up against a very powerful adversary that you cannot overcome within your own power. His goal is to steal, kill, and destroy you in any way that he can, John 10:10. One of his greatest weapons is that he can hide in plain sight because unfortunately a lot of people think that he doesn’t truly exist.
If you are a person in that category then you are already at a disadvantage. God is very clear when He states in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” The words “of knowledge” referenced here is the Hebrew word “daʿaṯ” which means: knowledge of God including obedience. The knowledge of God is found in His Word.
It is extremely important that you read your Holy Bible, study it, digest it, and apply it to your daily life. It is considered the Book of the Law because it contains the Lord’s Biblical principles and guidelines on how we are to live our lives as believers of Jesus Christ. Just like there are laws of the land, the Scriptures are Biblical laws and there are consequences when those laws are broken.
God is the ultimate authority of the law for both His Kingdom and the kingdom of darkness. Both kingdoms have to abide by the stipulations that are written in the Word of God. One thing that you need to understand is that the Lord does not go against the words written in His Word no matter what. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, Hebrews 13:8. He does not lie, if He said it He will do it regardless of whether it is good or bad, Numbers 23:19.
The devil knows this all too well and he knows God’s Biblical law and will use it against us any chance that he gets. He knows that most Christians don’t spend time in the Scriptures studying so that they can rightly divide God’s Truth (2 Timothy 2:15) and so he will use our ignorance to his advantage. That is why the Apostle Paul reveals to us in 2 Corinthians 2:11, “Lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.”
The Bible will expose every tactic that the enemy would try to establish against us and teach us how to avoid them, fight against them, and overcome them. There are warfare strategies scattered throughout the entire Bible and one of your greatest weapons is refraining from all sin. Make no mistake about it, sin is one of the biggest open doors that you can open to the enemy allowing him to legally wreak havoc in your life.
Don’t forget the fact that God’s Word is a Book of Law meaning if you do not abide by the decrees written in it, there are repercussions. God is the Judge of the Earth (Isaiah 33:22), Jesus is our Advocate (1 John 2:1), and the devil is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10). He goes before the Lord day and night bringing accusations against you before the Judge (God). The court of Heaven is just like the physical court of law, you are innocent until proven guilty and that is why we need an Advocate speaking on our behalf (Jesus).
The devil will bring before the Judge every Biblical law that you have broken so that he can gain legal access into your life. Remember that life is completely spiritual whether you know it or not there is a spiritual realm that you cannot see with the naked eye. On one side are the Lord and his angelic host and on the other side are the devil and his demonic angels that fell with him, Revelation 12:4.
God does not rule an unjust government in fact the Word tells us in Psalm 7:11, “God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day.” He judges fairly and righteously. He makes it very clear that if we love Him we will keep His commandments (John 14:15) because the wages of sin and disobedience is death, Romans 6:23. Following God’s rules and stipulations protects us from the snares and the wiles of the devil.
Ecclesiastes makes it clear when Solomon by the leading of the Holy Spirit discloses in Ecclesiastes 10:8 “He who digs a pit will fall into it, and whoever breaks through a wall will be bitten by a serpent.” In other words, obedience to God’s Word provides you with a hedge of protection but when you willfully sin that hedge is breached and the devil will come in and create complete chaos legally.
God doesn’t sugarcoat it, either you are with Him or against Him and there is no in between, Matthew 12:30. That is why He poses the question: should the throne of iniquity have fellowship with us? If we are Christians we should want to have no part of the works of the devil and his kingdom rather we should expose them, Ephesians 5:11.
Let’s take a look at the passage of Scripture found in the book of Psalms that breaks down the reason why it is so vital that we refrain from having any part of Satan and his demonic kingdom.
Psalm 94:20
“Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, have fellowship with You?”
Never forget that the devil is a legalist and knows the Scriptures very well as he was once in heaven with the Lord before his fall. He knows how to entice us into going against God’s decrees because that is how they establish their evil, by law. We can see in multiple passages of Scripture that the Lord does have a Court in Heaven where He is the Judge of the Earth.
For instance:
Psalm 82:1-2 states, “God presides over heaven’s court; he pronounces judgment on the heavenly beings: “How long will you hand down unjust decisions by favoring the wicked?”
Daniel 7:10 “A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.”
These are just some examples of passages of Scripture pertaining to the courtroom of Heaven. So what this reveals to us is if there is a courtroom in Heaven then there has to be a law that is implemented in this courtroom. God is the One that established the Biblical and Spirit law that both Kingdoms and every human being on the face of the Earth have to abide by. If you do not there will be repercussions to your disobedience.
I have many articles that go deeper into God’s Spiritual law and I will link them here: The Spiritual Laws of God-Poverty Part 1, The Spiritual Laws of God-Poverty Part 2, The Spiritual Laws of God-Restoration, The Spiritual Laws of God-The General Principles, The Spiritual Laws of God-The Power of Your Tongue!, and The Spiritual Laws of God-Having an Understanding.
One misconception is thinking if you are not a believer of Jesus Christ then God’s Law does not apply to you. That is not the case Romans 3:19-20 describes, “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
We can clearly see that the Apostle Paul is letting us know that the Lord’s rules and stipulations are for “all the world” there is really no way of getting around that. Unfortunately, there are Christians that are bound by the enemy because they are not living upright in the eyes of the Lord. They are not following the Lord’s Biblical Law and so the devil and his kingdom are creating disorder in their lives lawfully.
The thing is it doesn’t matter whether you are unaware, not a Christian, or if you don’t believe these Spiritual laws exist, they still apply to every single one of us. That is why it is so important that you study, digest, and apply God’s Word to your daily life. This is the best way to prevent yourself from breaking the decrees made by the Lord because you will be fully aware of what they are.
Let’s take a closer look at the passage that I am highlighting Psalm 94:20. The words “of iniquity” is the Hebrew word “haûâ” which means: the seat of destruction which ruins the innocent by injustice. The words “have fellowship with you” is the Hebrew word “ḥāḇar” which means: to be allied with and be united.
What we can conclude by the breakdown of these words is the fact that the seat of destruction or Satan and his demonic kingdom ruins the lives of believers and non-believers through malicious intent. Then we are given how the devil is able to bring his wicked intentions to pass and that is by our alliance or fellowship with him and his devices. When we come into agreement with the tactics and schemes that he puts in our path, he is legally able to come into our lives and wreak havoc.
The main way that we fall into the traps and strategies of the enemy is by willful and blatant sin. We need to be very clear that the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23. That is referring to both a physical death and a spiritual one because the moment that we willfully partake in deliberate sin, it causes a wedge between us and the Lord. Not only will it create division with you and God, it also opens doors to Satan and his minions.
The devil knows that your transgression will give him a “foothold” (Ephesians 4:27) in your life because it goes against the Lord’s Biblical rules and stipulations that are found in His Word. I am going to list out some of the most common sins that are committed by believers and non-believers alike so that you can be aware of them.
Willful sin:
Adultery-
Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
Fornication-
Galatians 5:19 “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality.”
Idolatry-
Revelations 21:8 “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Murder-
Romans 1:29 “They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips.”
Sorcery-
Galatians 5:20-21 “idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Drunkenness-
Romans 13:12-13 “The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.”
These are just some of the sins committed that can open doors for the enemy to come in and wreak havoc in our lives. The reason why it is so critical that we try to remain obedient to the Lord’s Word is because it keeps us free from the demonic oppression that the devil wants to put us in. Remember, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord,” Romans 6:23. The more that we engage in willful sin the more we become a slave to that sin, John 8:34.
How the kingdom of darkness operates is they tempt or entice us to break the Lord’s spiritual rules and regulations by committing some form of sin. What that does is gives them the lawful right to come into our lives in the hopes of developing strongholds through your transgressions. The demonic spirits will continue to tempt you to commit that certain iniquity, like adultery for instance, so much so that you become a slave to it, John 8:34. Once that happens it is very difficult for you to stop participating in that particular sin even when you want to.
Sins of the heart
When people think of sin, they often only limit it to the ones that are an act of doing something like: fornication, adultery, drinking, stealing, or doing drugs. That is so far from the truth, there are sins committed in your heart that are just as bad. We have to remember that sin is sin regardless of what the transgression is.
Jeremiah 17:9 lays it out perfectly when the prophet writes, “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” The Word of God really cannot get any clearer than that. Our hearts are extremely deceiving because a lot of us make most of our decisions based off of our emotions.
It is a dangerous thing when you allow the enemy to get inside your heart and corrupt it. He will easily turn that distaste into animosity which will lead to bitterness and then hate. Once the devil creates these foot holds in your life, he can alter the way that you begin to think about everything. That is why God’s Word lets us know that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, Romans 12:2. When you allow the Lord’s Word to cleanse you in every area of your life you will see significant changes in the way that you think.
Below I am listing some of the sins that we tend to commit in our hearts:
Pride-
Mark 7:21-22 “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, and evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.”
Jealousy-
2 Corinthians 12:20 “For I fear lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I wish, and that I shall be found by you such as you do not wish; lest there be contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, backbitings, whisperings, conceits, tumults.”
Hatred-
Titus 3:3 “For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.”
Anger-
Ephesians 4:26 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath.”
Bitterness-
Ephesians 4:31 “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.”
Lust-
1 Peter 4:3 “For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.”
These are just some of the many sins committed within our hearts. As the body of Christ we have to be willing to transform the way that we live and the manner in which we think. The way that we do that is by reading, studying, and abiding by the undiluted Word of the living God. Demonic activity and demonic influence is real and they have powerful methods that they use that allow the enemy access into your life.
Whether you believe it or not, sinful actions are one of the ways that you will give Satan legal right to infiltrate your space. Remember the devil is a legalist and knows the Lord’s Biblical law better than most believers do and will use it against you any chance that he gets! The first step to making sure that you are not breaking God’s stipulations is to have a full understanding of what they are in the first place.
Conclusion
One thing is clear and that is that the devil came to steal, kill, and destroy by any means necessary, John 10:10. One of the main ways that he accomplishes his goal is by getting people to come into agreement with his lies and being disobedient to God’s Word. What this does is give him and his kingdom the legal right to have access in your life.
When you commit willful sin you are walking in fellowship with the enemy and that is a very dangerous place to be. The devil will take the transgression that you are committing and develop strongholds in your life that can be hard to break. That is why it is vital that you get into God’s word and study it, digest it, and apply it to your daily life!
