Scriptures with Stipulations-Angels Encamp about Us
As Christians we have been afforded so many amazing blessings and promises that are scattered throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament. Unfortunately a lot of us do not see these assurances manifesting in our lives because of misapplying the Scriptures. There are so many promises that the Lord gives us that have stipulations attached to them that can easily be overlooked.
If you are relying on a pastor, parent, friend, or even your spouse to spoon feed you the Word of God you are going to miss vital information embedded in the Scriptures. It is so important that you read, study, and digest the Lord’s Word for yourself. What that does is allow the Holy Spirit to personally reveal things to you that are important when it comes to God’s guarantees.
The Bible lets us know in 2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” The Apostle Paul is letting us know that the Lord expects every Christian to study the Word of God for ourselves so that we can rightly divide God’s Truth.
Your Pastor preaching a sermon on a Sunday is just not enough of digesting the Scriptures to get you by. This is very far from the truth! What happens a lot of times is a Preacher will preach their message which will include partial Scriptures but they leave out critical parts of the passage. So, what that does is prevent you from understanding the verse in proper context.
I am going to go over a passage of Scripture out of the book of Psalms so that you can have an understanding of what a stipulation in the Word of God looks like.
Psalm 34:7
“The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.”
This particular passage of Scripture was written by King David as he was facing adversity and persecution. He had a realization that angels did encamp about him through his hardship with the Philistines and with King Saul. His angelic protection was real even though at times the angels could not be seen with the naked eye.
Psalm 91:11 reiterates the protection given to us by the angelic realm as it states, “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” We can see throughout the entirety of the Bible where there are instances where angels step in for God’s children to defend them. David was familiar with angelic safeguarding and we can see that disclosed in the book of 1 Chronicles.
1 Chronicles 21:16 details, “Then David lifted his eyes and saw the angel of the Lord standing between earth and heaven, having in his hand a drawn sword stretched out over Jerusalem…” Having angelic protection is one of the many benefits that we have the opportunity to take advantage of as believers of Jesus Christ.
Unfortunately a lot of times we don’t see the Lord’s promises displayed in our lives because we don’t abide by the stipulations attached to them. The verse that I am highlighting out of the book of Psalms gives us an example of a stipulation found in the Word of God, let’s take a closer look.
The words “the angel” being used is the Hebrew word “mal’āḵ” which means: messenger specifically of God. The word “encamps” being used here is the Hebrew word “ḥānâ” which means: to decline, incline, encamp, bend down, and lay siege against. The words “those that fear Him” being used here is the Hebrew word “yārē’” which means: reverent, stand in awe of.
What we can decipher with these important words out of the text is the fact that the Lord is letting us know that His children have access to angelic protection. These angels will lay siege against (or be a barrier) and encamp about believers of Jesus Christ. This is an amazing promise that is given to us by God that we don’t want to take for granted.
There is however a stipulation laid out for us in this verse of Scripture. The Lord makes it very clear that this guarantee is for those that reverence or respect Him. What does that look like? God is love and those that love Him will abide by His principles laid out in His Word. John 14:15 reveals, “If you love Me, you will keep my commandments.”
Another example is found in 1 John 5:3 and it states, “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” As we can see in these verses of Scripture the Lord is telling us that it is extremely important to Him that we follow and abide by His commandments. This is one of the main ways that we can display love, honor, and respect for the Lord.
Another amazing benefit revealed to us out of this passage of Scripture that we get to take advantage of is deliverance. David states, “and delivers them” the Hebrew word is “ḥālaṣ” which means: to be saved and be delivered. Now that we have taken a closer look at this last portion of the Scripture we can see that one of God’s guarantees’ is that those that reverence the Lord will receive deliverance.
These are some incredible promises that the Lord has afforded us to take advantage of just in this Psalm alone. The important thing that we want to remember is that a good amount of God’s assurances have stipulations attached to them. We have to make sure that we are applying the Scriptures correctly so that we can see them activated in our lives.
Conclusion
God’s Word is filled with promises that He has given His children both in the New Testament and the Old Testament. We have been afforded the amazing opportunity to take full advantage of these guarantees. The problem is that a lot of Christians do not take the time out to study the Word of God for themselves and so they miss key information embedded in the Scriptures.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to read the Lord’s Word for yourself so that the Holy Spirit can reveal to you God’s Truth, John 16:13. We cannot rely on another person’s personal relationship with the Lord and use it as our own. He desires to have an intimate relationship with every single one of us!
