Weapons of Warfare-Your Testimony

In order to understand why your testimony is a weapon of warfare we need to first comprehend why we need warfare weapons in the first place. The Apostle Paul states it perfectly in Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Here we can see that Paul is letting us know that we are not fighting against anything or anyone that you we can see with the naked eye. Not even close! Our battle is not with your spouse, children, a family member, your friend, etc. We are up against a highly trained militant demonic kingdom led by Satan that wants nothing more than to kill, steal, and destroy every single one of us, John 10:10.

The good news is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again allowing Him to overcome Satan and his entire kingdom triumphing over them openly, Colossians 2:15. Consequently, born again believers of Christ have the power over the devil. Luke 10:19 details, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

The main thing that we need to realize is the fact that we cannot overcome the devil and his demonic kingdom within our own power, we need the power of God to do so. When Jesus Christ ascended to be with the heavenly Father, He did not leave us alone. He left us the Holy Spirit which is our Helper and guide leading us to absolute truth, John 16:13. He is the One that will bring Scriptures to your remembrance when you need them, John 14:26.

Unfortunately a lot of Christians do not pick up their Bible to read it for themselves. Instead, they rely on a Pastor preaching a sermon on a Sunday morning and think that is enough to last you throughout the week. That is very far from the truth in fact the Lord calls His Word “Daily Bread” for a reason. It is so important that we take the time out to incorporate the Lord’s Word into our daily life.

Now that we have an understanding of why we need weapons of warfare, let’s take a look at one of the most important ones and that is our personal testimony!

Revelation 12:11

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”

Here we can see that John on the island of Patmos is giving us some vital information when it comes to overcoming the schemes of the devil. He discloses how significant our testimony is. What better way to show that our powerful adversary is a defeated foe than to share how the great Power of God snatched you out of his grip; restored, renewed, and made you whole.

The power of your testimony is often underestimated but we can see by this passage of Scripture that it is one of the ways that we can overcome the schemes of the enemy. One thing that nobody can take away from you is your witness of what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for you. What a way to build your faith than to see the work of God and His Word being played out in your life in real time!

We all get discouraged; I know I have. In those difficult moments I look back at my life and reflect on how much Jesus truly loves me and it helps build my faith back to where it needs to be. Don’t allow yourself to ever forget the things that the Lord has done for you regardless of how big of small you might think they are. The fact that you are saved by the great grace of God is a miracle in itself, Romans 1:16.

The important thing to remember pertaining to this verse of Scripture is what our testimony is doing for others. It is simply our proclamation of the fact that we overcome Satan when we testify personally of what the blood of the Lamb has done for us and tying it in with the Word of God. When you confirm that God means what He says and says what He means in His Word, it is one of the most powerful things that you can do.

Your testimony is a mighty spiritual warfare weapon that you want to use any chance you get. We overcome the evil powers of this dark world by our Faith in Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross, the Word of God which is our double-edged Sword, and the word of our testimony. The enemy cannot stand for his devices to be reveled but the Lord is very definitive about us having no fellowship with darkness but rather exposing them, Ephesians 5:11.

There is so much power in every one of our testimonies because it shows others that even though the enemy used every strong hold to keep you bound, you still overcame. It gives other people hope that Jesus Christ is still the same yesterday, today, and forever more, Hebrews 13:8. No matter how far gone you are or what spiritual battle you are facing you can make it through!

That is why I use any chance I can get to tell people what I went through and to share things that I have learned along the years so that they can get set free. I had to fight powerful forces of evil that were completely invisible. Through God’s mercy and amazing grace I was able to break free to live today to tell my testimony. A lot of people are ashamed to share what they went through because they don’t want to expose their vulnerabilities. That is nothing but the enemy trying to silence you, do not give him that satisfaction!

Now let’s break down some of the key words in the primary Scripture found in Revelation 12:11. The word “overcome” being used is the Greek word “nikaō” which means: Christian constancy and courage keeps himself unharmed and spotless from his adversary’s devices, solicitations, assaults: the devil. The word “testimony” being used here is the Greek word “martyria” which means: to testify and a testimony.

As we take a deeper look at what the Lord is revealing to us we can conclude that He is telling us that one of the ways that we reveal the enemy’s devices and assaults is by testifying what the Lord has done for us. The devil would love for us to remain in a “woe is me” mentality but when you proclaim how you overcame every scheme that the enemy formed against you, it is such a powerful thing!

Never underestimate the potency of your testimony: share it and share it often. The reason why the devil comes against it so much is because it brings hope to those that are around you going through the same thing that you just triumphed over. You are testifying that God is Who He says that He is and that He will do what He says He will do! You have to be willing to believe it!

Conclusion

Whether you are a believer or a non-believer, you are fighting a spiritual war against a powerful adversary that you cannot see. That is why the Lord has equipped all of His children with weapons of Warfare that we can use when the devil comes against us. One of those weapons is your personal testimony that testifies what the Lord has done for you!

The unfortunate thing is a lot of Christians don’t believe that there actually is an adversary let alone how to war against him. Most believers don’t read the Word of God and so they are completely ignorant to the enemy’s devices. He does not play fair and will use your obliviousness against you. Luckily we have been given the Holy Spirit as our Guide leading us, guiding us, and giving us the power to overcome!
