Salvation Scriptures-Confess and Believe

In order to truly understand Salvation you must first comprehend the need for a Savior to begin with. Because of blatant disobedience by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, sin entered into the life of every single person born afterward, Genesis 3:1-13. God was very clear when He told both Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but they did not obey Him.

Genesis 2:17 details, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” The Lord provided them with food from every other tree so much so that they had an abundant supply of resources readily available to them. His one stipulation was that they did not eat from one specific tree and they failed to listen. At that moment sin entered in and a barrier was formed between man and God because of the fact that sin separates us from God.

Psalm 51:5 gives us one of the results of Adam and Eve’s disobedience “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.” Due to the original sin, we were all born with the sin nature with the proclivity to sin. The sin penalty could not be paid ourselves which meant that we needed a Savior that could pay our sin debt for us reconciling us back to God the Father. That Savior is the Only Son of God, Jesus Christ.

Before Christ died as the perfect Sacrifice for all sin, we can see the process of atonement depicted in the Old Testament. Only the high priest had access to the Most Holy Place which was called the Holy of Holies where the blood of a perfect animal without spot or blemish was sprinkled on the ark of the covenant for the removal of sin.

This was done once a year by the High Priest to make atonement for his sins and for the sins of others. The moment that Jesus died, the veil separating the rest of the temple and the Holy of Holies was completely torn in two, Matthew 27:50-51.

This was an outward demonstration of the fact that God accepted the perfect sin offering which was His only Son. Jesus Christ gave up His life for you and me so that we can have the ability to be cleansed of all sin, have eternal life in Heaven with our Heavenly Father, and have a personal relationship with God.

His death allows us the freedom to not only communicate with God but to have the liberty to approach the throne boldly, Hebrews 4:16. What a tremendous Blessing that can never be taken for granted! God does not discriminate or show partiality but in fact He is very clear when He states that anyone that calls on the Name of the Lord can be saved. God’s plan from the beginning was that none should perish but that ALL would have eternal salvation as the body of Christ!

Let’s take a look at some powerful Salvation verses of Scripture out of the New Testament.

Romans 10:9-10

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

The entire Bible is filled with passages of Scripture that point to Jesus Christ in one way or another. He is the literal Word of God made flesh, John 1:14. Salvation is only possible because of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is why the verses of Scripture out of the book of Romans are so significant. It gives us an outline of what is expected at the moment that you decide to give your life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The words “you confess” being used here is the Greek word “homologeō” which means: to declare openly and speak out freely. The word “believe” being used here is the Greek word “pisteuō” which means: to have a faith directed unto believing or in faith to give oneself up to Jesus, become a believer of Jesus Christ. The words “you will be saved” being used here is the Greek word “sōzō” which means: to make one a partaker of the salvation by Christ.

So when we analyze the first verse of Scripture we can see that it is important that we make a verbal confession out loud that we believe that Jesus Christ is Who He says He is. The belief and faith that we have in Christ should be so personal to us that we would be willing to give up our lives and live for Him, Philippians 1:21. Then the Apostle Paul gives us the result of this confession: you are now a partaker of the salvation by Christ.

The words “with the heart” being used is the Greek word “kardia” which means: the center and seat of the spiritual life, the soul or mind, as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, and endeavors. The word “righteousness” being used is the Greek Word “dikaiosynē” which means: the state acceptable to God which becomes a sinner’s possession through that faith by which he embraces the grace of God offered him in the expiatory death of Jesus Christ.

The word “salvation” being used is the Greek word “sōtēria” which means: the present possession of all true Christians. So after dissecting this last passage of Scripture we can conclude that Paul is letting us know that through the leading of the Holy Spirit that a person’s soul and mind needs to have the ability to fully believe in Christ. It has to do with proclaiming that He is the Gospel of good news, the righteousness of God, and the One that paid our entire sin debt allowing us the free gift of salvation.

The Word of the Gospel is Jesus Christ and the Lord is letting us know that it is important to proclaim verbally that Jesus Christ is the only way, truth, and the life, John 14:6. Salvation cannot be obtained within our own righteousness but it is only established through God’s righteousness. When you become a true born again believer of Jesus Christ your heart posture should drastically change.

People should be able to see a transformation in you and know that there is something different about you. Galatians 2:20 states it perfectly as the Apostle Paul states, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” You have to be willing to let go of the old you and become a new creation in Christ!
