Positive Quote for the Week: Repentance is a Necessity

“From the moment that you give your life to Jesus Christ, He commands us to repent and turn away from our wicked ways!” Erica Willis

What does it meant to repent? When you repent, you are completely surrendering to God and His Purpose which includes turning away from all sin. It is an absolute change from the old you, letting go of the things that prevent you from strengthening your relationship with the Lord.

It is a renewing of your mind Romans 12:2. It is going to take humility and trust and you have to be willing to completely humble yourself before Jesus professing that you are a sinner but you genuinely want to transform the way you’ve been living and have a connection with Him.

You are not alone, every single one of us struggles with one thing or another that creates a barrier between us and the Lord. The fact of the matter is sin comes in many different forms and one misconception is that a sin that is not exposed externally is not as extreme as one that is hidden behind closed doors. Sin is sin and there is no way of getting around it.

The reason why repentance is so important is because sin is giving the devil legal right to cause destruction in your life. The demons are energized when you participate in things that the Lord specifically tells us not to do in His Word. Sin gives them the ability to oppress, torment, afflict, and harm you because you have open doors that they can come in and wreak havoc.

That is why Jesus is so adamant about the repercussions of sin in the Word of God. He specifically says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” That is a significant statement! He isn’t warning us because he wants to be mean, He cautions us because He knows how much sin can destroy every aspect of your very existence. It will lead to your demise.

Scripture regarding repentance:

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Matthew 3:1-2 “In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”

Acts 3:19 “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”

Luke 5:32 “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
