Bible Verses on Faith

Faith

What exactly is Faith?

Faith is having complete assurance and confidence in the Word of God and His promises even when we cannot see them happen right away. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Another verse of Scripture that we need to look at is Romans 10:17 it says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The word “word” in this verse means “rhema” or the spoken word of God. This can happen in many ways: a verse of Scripture will pop out at you, you may hear a message from a Pastor meant just for you, the Lord may give someone a word specifically for you, and many other ways that God speaks a Word explicitly for us. When you begin to see that spoken word manifest, your Faith grows tremendously!

As we add Hebrews 11:1 to it we have a better understanding of what the Lord is trying to convey pertaining to faith. He is showing us that the Word of God is the substance or currency of the things that we hope for. When we are coming to God in our time of need hoping for a positive outcome, we need to make sure that we are approaching Him with what His Word tells us concerning that matter. The scriptures are filled with the promises of the Lord but the question is; are we standing on those promises as the absolute truth? Are we speaking His Words over our family, our children, and ourselves? They have so much power!

Remember, God is not a man that He should lie, Numbers 23:19. So what that means is that we can take the biblical scriptures at face value and as fact! We have the ability to come to Him boldly with anticipation that He will do what His Word said He would do as long as what we are asking Him for is aligned with the Holy Scriptures. Let’s take a look at some of the most powerful bible verses when it comes to faith.

Hebrews 116

Hebrews 11:6-“ But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

As we look deeper into this verse of scripture we can see that God is plainly letting us know that without faith (His Word), there is no way that we can please Him. He gave us the scriptures or his biblical law so that we can meditate on them day and night, Joshua 1:8. Why is this? When we saturate our hearts and minds with the powerful words that are embedded in the bible, we will naturally begin to conform to the ways in which the Lord wants us to live. The more Word that you have in your spirit, the more faith you will develop.

How does this happen? Hebrews 4:12 explains exactly how this is possible, it states “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Do not underestimate the Holy Scriptures; they are authoritative and alive and have the ability to heal, deliver, transform, and save you from any circumstance that you will ever face!

Habakkuk 24

Habakkuk 2:4-“Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.”

The part of this verse that I want to highlight is where the prophet Habakkuk writes “the just shall live by faith.” Who are the just? The just are pertaining to any Christian who is in a right relationship with God according to His Word. So, when the prophet is stating that every believer shall live by faith, he is saying that they shall live by the Word of the living God. Faith is an entire lifestyle. The bible is our biblical law, literally; and the more that we read and understand what the Lord is saying in His Word the clearer His instructions will become.

We need the Gospel like we need food and water, Matthew 4:4 says, “But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” His Words are sustenance to our bodies that we require every single day. The more scripture that you have written on your heart, the more prominent your faith will be. You will see His promises begin to manifest in your life as you apply your faith or His Word to every situation.

1 John 54

1 John 5:4-“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”

Breaking down this powerful verse of scripture we see the word faith here which is the Greek word pístis which means the conviction of the truth. Now when we apply what the Greek meaning of the word faith means, we can conclude that the Lord is stating that the victory that has overcome the world is His Word. The scriptures are the Truth and have the ability to convict us and guide us in the right direction regardless of where we are in life.

With the Holy Spirit directing us as He brings scriptures to our remembrance when we need them, we have what we need to conquer the world and the devil. The more Word we have stored in our memory bank, the more freedom we have. Jesus Christ used the Word of God to counter-attack Satan every time that he came to Him tempting Him while He was in the wilderness. How much more do we need to do the same?

When we live our lives upright based on the Holy Scriptures, it makes it very difficult for the enemy to attack us. It is when we don’t read the bible and apply it like we should that we find ourselves in vulnerable situations allowing the devil to sneak his way in. Don’t think for a second that he plays fair, he has come to steal, kill, and destroy, John 10:10.

2 Corinthians 57

2 Corinthians 5:7-“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

In this bible verse, the Apostle Paul is explaining how they were able to make it through regardless of the trials and tribulations. They continued moving forward confidently because they were standing on the Word of God. They were so certain of the promises that the Lord gave them throughout the scriptures that even if they died proclaiming the Gospel, they knew exactly where they were going. Every believer of the Lord Jesus Christ is assured that we will be given eternal life, to be absent from the body means to be present with the Lord, 2 Corinthians 5:8.

We will all go through challenging moments in our lives and that is when we really need to activate our faith, or the Word of God. No matter what things look like, what do the scriptures say pertaining to your circumstance? This is how we build our faith; we remain planted on every Word that has proceeded out of the mouth of God, Matthew 4:4. When we can do that without any doubt in our hearts that is how we are able to walk by faith and not by sight.

James 12-3

James 1:2-3-“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.”

It is inevitable; we will all face trials on more than one occasion throughout our lives. The Lord lets us know that we are not exempt. In Matthew 5:45 the scripture states, “that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” It doesn’t matter if you are a believer or a non-believer you are going to encounter tribulation.

The difference is as Christians the testing of our faith (Word of God) will produce patience. When you are taking the time to read your bible, adversity will hit but will not affect you as severely as someone that doesn’t spend time in the Lord’s Word. Why? The reason is that you are provided with strength because you are consuming the Holy Scriptures. It is your double-edged Sword.

The Lord wants to see if you are applying the knowledge that He has given you and that is where the testing comes into play. Are you standing firm knowing that He will never leave you nor forsake you, Deuteronomy 31:6; or are you allowing the troubles of life devour you?

What is the Scripture of choice when it comes to Faith?

I recently did a poll on one of the Facebook Christian groups that I am a member of and here are the scripture results that I received.

poll results on faith

·         Hebrews 11:1-“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

·         Matthew 7:9-“Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?”

·         1 Corinthians 13:12-“For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.”

·         2 Corinthians 5:7-“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

·         Mark 11:24-“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

·         Jeremiah 29:11-“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

·         Psalm 46:10-“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

I was fascinated by the different answers that I was getting and some of the scriptures given hadn’t immediately come to my mind when I thought about having Faith. Every person has their own personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and that is why every response was so different. Every reply that I received was a great verse of scripture that you can meditate on when it comes to growing your faith.

How do you activate Faith through the scriptures?

Everything that we need to remain triumphant over the world, the flesh, and the devil is embedded in the Scriptures. The question is: how does one go about activating the faith (God’s Word) that has already been given to us? Begin to speak them over your life. Don’t ever forget that life and death is in the power of your tongue, Proverbs 18:21. Declare God’s promises as the absolute Truth because that is exactly what they are.

For instance:

If you need healing for you or a loved one, some of the scriptures that you can meditate on and speak over your life are:

·         1 Peter 2:24-“who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”

·         Isaiah 53:5-“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”

·         Psalm 147:3-“He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.”

Come to your Heavenly Father in prayer with His Word! Proclaim every verse over your life and those of your loved ones. You can say things like “Father, your Word tells us that we are healed because of what Jesus did for us on the cross overcoming the power that sickness has over us by His stripes, Isaiah 53:5. Your Word also states that you heal the brokenhearted and that includes me, Psalm 147:3. I know that you want us to have life abundantly, John 10:10, so I declare that this sickness has to flee my body and I stand on your Word that it is so!”

If you are struggling with fear, you can meditate on:

·         2 Timothy 1:7-“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

·         1 John 4:18-“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

·         Joshua 1:9-“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Bring the Lord His Word, which is the currency of heaven. Come to Him and ask Him for what you need. Meditate on the scriptures pertaining to your issue day and night. As you pray to Him during your personal prayer time, you can say things like, “Father I know that you did not give me the spirit of fear, 2 Timothy 1:7, so I am asking you to take the fear away. Your Word states that Your perfect love will cast out my fear, 1 John 4:18, so I am leaning on Your promise as if it is already done.” Approach Him with anticipation that what you are asking will come to pass if you are living upright; and if what you are asking Him aligns with His Word.

Make a scripture list of verses out of the bible that will target the area that you are struggling with. Proclaim and declare God’s Word over your situation and watch how the Lord moves on your behalf!
