God’s Healing Remedy-His Word

God’s Healing Remedy-His Word

Does God’s Word really have the power to heal?

In order to answer this question we need to take a look Hebrews 4:12 one of the most powerful Bible verses in all of Scripture and it states, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Here we can see that the writer of Hebrews is describing the Word of God by using words life: living and powerful. The word “living” being used is the Greek word zaō which means: having power in itself and exerting the same upon the soul. The word “powerful” being used is the Greek word energēs which means: active.

When we dissect these two words within the text of Scripture we can determine that the power that is in God’s Word is the same power that can be applied to any circumstance. It is active or full of life meaning that it is not just pages written in a book, not even close. Every word in every verse of Scripture has meaning and is extremely powerful! It has the potency to help you overcome those times of sickness, chronic illness, various diseases, and anything afflicting your physical body.

I can remember back when I was in my darkest valley completely defeated by the enemy because of my lack of knowledge of the Scriptures. I was so demonically oppressed: mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I didn’t know anything about the spiritual realm let alone know how to fight against it! The Holy Spirit taught me how to battle the devil one on one with nothing but my double-edged Sword (God’s Word). It was because of its great power that I am alive today to tell my story!

It is truly heartbreaking how a lot of Christians underestimate the power of God through His Word. So, they will just deal with their physical struggles and physical sickness and say things like: “God must be teaching me a lesson,” and “it’s just the cross that I have to bear.” The devil is a liar! The blood of Jesus that was shed on the Cross at Calvary paid for our entire sin debt affording us the free gift of Salvation.

The Blessings that come with that amazing gift are: good health, healing, deliverance, protection, and provision amongst many other things. John 10:10 reveals, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Jesus Christ died for us to have the opportunity to have an abundant life here on Earth. His will for our lives is not to be laid up in bed riddled with sickness and disease.

He has given us all the tools that we need to fight illness, infirmity, disease, and every single thing that will ever come against us. The problem is that a lot of believers don’t read their Bible to learn of God’s promises. His Word has to be so embedded in your heart that every single time that the devil tries to shoot fiery arrows at your mind your response is “it is written!”

There is a powerful passage of Scripture specifically tailored to counterattack any infirmity that you will ever encounter. That is why we need to make it a point to meditate on the Lord’s Word consistently. Joshua 1:8 details, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

As we meditate on the Gospel of the Kingdom of God we will learn about God’s love, God’s power, and the things that God expects from us in order for our lives to be prosperous and successful. We cannot overlook the fact that the Lord commands us to be obedient to the stipulations and regulations written in His Word.

Blatant disobedience is how we can create hindrances to our healing. There are many barriers that can prevent a sick person from receiving full health and two of the most common ones are willful sin and unbelief. I have two articles that go into depth on these barriers: Hindrances to your healing-Unbelief, and Hindrances to your Healing-Willful Sin.

Let’s take a look at some amazing verses of Scripture that disclose the power of the Word of God!

Proverbs 4:20-22

“My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.”

These Old Testament Scriptures were written by King Solomon who was the wisest king to ever live until this day. He is making it very clear to us that if we keep the Word of God in the center of our hearts it is literally life to us that find (secure, acquire, attain) it. Then Solomon goes on to say that it is health (healing and curing) to all your flesh. What that means is any affliction, ailment, disease, pain, etc. to your physical body has the ability to be healed.

He uses the word “ALL” in regards to your flesh. He didn’t say some parts of your body but God is saying your entire body with no exception. The Scriptures found in the Bible are like good medicine that you can consume on your bed of illness. We have to get to the point in our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ that the moment that sickness presents itself we begin to proclaim God’s Word against it and believe it in our heart with no doubt.

Some more powerful Scriptures that I want to highlight are found in the book of Psalms.

Psalm 107:17-20

“Fools, because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, were afflicted. Their soul abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

David through the leading of the Holy Spirit wrote this very eye-opening Psalm. He is letting us know that as a result of sin in a person’s life, they are afflicted. A lot of us go through hard times and we don’t correlate the adversities that we are experiencing to direct disobedience to God’s Word. The problem of sin in the life of a believer will always lead to misery.

The amazing thing is that we serve a good God and because of God’s love for His children He provided us with the solution to all destruction, sickness, and disease.  David gives us the antidote to our illnesses and that is the Lord’s Word. Let’s take a closer look at what these passages mean. The words “His Word” being used is the Hebrew word dāḇār which means: word of God, as a divine communication in the form of commandments, prophecy, and words of help to his people. This word is communicated in several ways.

The primary way that our Heavenly Father speaks to us is through His Word. The problem is if you don’t know the things God is saying written in the pages of your Bible you are not going to know the powerful healing promises that are meant for every Christian to use as God’s medicine for all sickness and disease.

The other words that I want to bring to light out of these passages of Scripture are the words “and healed them” is the word rāp̄ā’” which means: heal and make healthy. So what we can conclude is the fact that God’s Word has enough power to restore a person facing deadly sickness and disease back to full health.

We can never forget that the only reason that this is even possible is because of the shed blood of Jesus Christ that gave us the power over all the wiles and schemes of the devil. Colossians 2:15 details, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” The Lord didn’t remove sickness but He did diminish the potency of it.

After the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of our Heavenly Father He sent us the perfect gift of the Holy Spirit. He is the One that will guide us, lead us, and give us the strength to fight off sickness with God’s Word. The fact of the matter is the only way that He can bring Scriptures to your remembrance is if He has Scriptures to pull from. Your Scriptural memory bank cannot be empty.

That is why it is crucial that you open your Bible for yourself and study to show yourself approved with the ability to rightly divide God’s Truth, 2 Timothy 2:15. That way when sickness begins to try to creep its way into your body you can begin to proclaim the Word of God right then and there. Both the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness respond to the Lord’s Word.

In fact it is so powerful that the Lord puts His Word even before His own Name, Psalm 138:2. He will never go against the words found in the pages of your Bible. He has set forth His Biblical law and it is absolute and unchangeable. Numbers 23:19 discloses this fact, “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”

God’s Word should be taken at face value, it truly boils down to whether we believe what He says or we don’t. The Lord gives us the choice to choose life or to choose death. Deuteronomy 30:19 reveals, “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

The part of the passage that I want to point out is where the Lord states “choose life.” God wants us to choose life and has given us all the tools that we need to live a victorious one. Jesus Christ has already done His part on the cross at Calvary and then He declared, “it is finished,” Now it is up to us to use our authority in Jesus’ Name with His Word to overcome every sickness, every disease, and every snare that the devil and his demonic kingdom throws our way!

Conclusion

One of the greatest devices that the devil likes to use against Christians is sickness. When you are not 100 percent it is very difficult to progress in the Kingdom of God. The Lord gave us His Word as a healing agent to heal from “ALL” sickness and disease. He is our ever-present help in times of trouble never leaving us or forsaking us, Deuteronomy 31:6.

God’s gracious Words are powerful and are literally a double-edged Sword that we have at our disposal. It produces endurance and strength in times of weakness, sickness, and disease. There have been times in my life that I was so sick unable to get out bed not knowing what tomorrow would hold but I stood on God’s Word proclaiming them boldly until my body aligned with God’s promises!
