Hindrances to your Healing-Willful Sin

Wages of Sin is Death

What is Willful Sin?

The fact of the matter is that we are all imperfect people serving a perfect God. Romans 3:23 states “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The difference is that when you become a believer of the Lord Jesus Christ, you receive God’s free gift of the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of you, John 14:17. He is your Helper that will guide you into all Truth, John 16:13. The Spirit of God will steer you in the right direction when you are veering off track pertaining to how the Word of God says one should live their life.

Remember 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” That means that you do not have to be a salve to sin but have the ability through Christ and what He did for us on the cross to live a life free from captivity at the hand of the enemy. It will mean you taking a step back and being honest with yourself; are you engaging in things that are going to have eternal repercussions? If so, ask yourself is it really worth it?

The Lord explains in Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” You could be rich, have the biggest house, the most clothes, and everything that you could ever want, but when you leave this Earth you don’t get to take those things with you.

Your soul is eternal and the fact is that you are the only one that can make the choice of where it will end up when you take your last breath. That is truly how serious it is! Because of the grace of God giving His Only Son as a perfect sacrifice, we have been given the option to accept the free gift of eternal life. The Lord wants us to make the decision to follow Him, follow His commandments, and turn away from sin, 2 Peter 3:9.

Living a sinless life to the best of your ability and following God’s law found in the Holy Bible will lower the chances of premature physical death, spiritual death, and eternal death. We are all imperfect human beings but we serve a perfect God that gave us His Spirit so that we could have the power to overcome sickness and disease, Zechariah 4:6.

Exodus 15:26 details, “and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

There is so much great information in this passage of Scripture out of the Old Testament. The Lord is telling us that if we heed to His voice, do what is right in His sight, and keep His statutes none of the diseases that were brought on the Egyptians will be brought upon us. God’s divine healing, spiritual healing, physical healing, and emotional healing is without limits. Even in the darkest valley where death is knocking at your door: God’s promises paired with the Power of the Holy Spirit, and Jesus’ Name have the ability to heal your body.

The key part out of the verse of Scripture that we want to have a clear understanding about is that our obedience to the Lord’s commandments is for our protection. We are facing a real and powerful adversary that wants nothing more than to destroy every single one of us, John 10:10. Disobedience and willful sin opens the door to the devil and his demonic kingdom to wreak havoc in our lives.

Romans 6:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

This powerful passage of Scripture written by the Apostle Paul out of the book of Romans is very revealing. He is letting us know that the direct repercussion of sin is death. The word “wages” being used is the Greek word opsōnionwhich means: the hire that sin pays. When you think of that phrase it is mind blowing. In other words you are actually making a payment to the sin that you are committing but the payment method that you are using is your life.

The reward of sin is ultimately eternal death. The word “death” being used is the Greek word thanatos” which means: death comprising all the miseries arising from sin. The enemy uses our disobedience to God’s Biblical rules and stipulations to wreak havoc in our bodies: physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. The wages of the sin that you are committing willfully without repentance will always result in death.

God’s gift, the Holy Spirit, is the One that will give us the power and strength to overcome the desire to want to sin. The key thing is that you have to be willing to die to your old self embrace your new life in Christ and renew your entire frame of mind, Romans 12:2. God’s Word has the ability to break the bondage of sin operating in your life.

Let’s take a look at the second part of this passage of Scripture, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The gracious gift of God is having the opportunity to have an eternal life with Him forever. The word “eternal” being used is the Greek word aiōnios which means: without an end, never to cease, everlasting. This World that we live in is never worth someone losing their soul and ultimately their life (Mark 8:36) when God has afforded us life with Him eternally!

I have an article regarding opening up doors to the enemy by willful sin: Spiritual Oppression: the Dangers of Open Doors to the enemy Part 1.

Let’s take a look at some more Bible verses that give an example of sickness connected to sin.

John 5:13-14

“But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place. Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”

These passages of Scripture are an example of the effects of sin on a person’s body. A little background on what is going on prior to this passage out of the book of John; a man that was bound by sickness in his body for thirty-eight years could not get off of his mat that he was laying on to get to the pool of Bethesda.

This particular pool was known to heal the sick, blind, lame, and paralyzed but the person wanting their healing needed to get into the pool when the water was moving. Little did this man know that he didn’t need the pool for healing because he was speaking to the Healer. Jesus Christ had the ability to speak a word to the diseased man and he was able to rise up and walk!

That is exactly what the man did as “Jesus said to him, “Rise take up your bed and walk,” John 5:8. Now we can take a closer look at the primary texts of Scripture that I am highlighting out of the book of John. Jesus says something very eye-opening to the man when He states, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”

The word “sin” being used here is the Greek word hamartanō which means: to wander from the law of God, violate God’s law. Then Jesus says to him that something worse will come upon him if he continues in his sin. Not only would the man become sick again, but it would be much worse than before. So here we can see the direct correlation between a body of sin leading to a body of sickness. How does that happen?

It goes back to the wages of sin leading to death, Romans 6:23. Our own actions will dictate the results that we will receive. The Lord has given every one of us a free will to choose life or death. Deuteronomy 30:19 details, “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

We have to come to the realization that life is completely spiritual and in this spiritual life you are going to have to face a real enemy that one cannot see with the naked eye. He is the accuser, accusing us day and night, Revelation 12:10. He would completely destroy every one of us if he could but because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ the power that sin and death had over us was weakened. It didn’t take away the presence of sin and death, but it took away the potency of it.

It is then up to us to live our daily lives dying to our old nature instead of being slaves of sin. We need to walk in our authority that Jesus Christ died for each one of us to have. Some of the benefits that salvation has afforded believers are good health and healing. We cannot allow sin to have dominion over our lives letting the enemy and his demonic kingdom have legal access to cause complete chaos: physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. The devil is a liar!

Conclusion

One of the number one hindrances that prevent healing in the life of believers is willful sin. When you go against the Lord’s stipulations and provisions found in His Biblical law, it gives the devil and his demonic kingdom the legal right to wreak havoc in your life. We have to be careful that we don’t give the enemy a “place” or legal ground to invade our space.

The enemy’s goal is to steal, kill, and destroy by all means necessary and that is exactly what he does. A lot of us take the Lord’s grace for granted and think that it is ok to blatantly sin because God forgives our transgressions. The Lord is clear in Romans 6:15, “What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!”
