Isaiah 4110

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

The prophet Isaiah was one of the most influential prophets mentioned in the entire Word of God. He is considered to be a major prophet because of the length of his book which bears his name. He was the son of Amoz and his name means “God is salvation or the Lord saves.”

Isaiah was used mightily by God to prophesy of the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ to the people of Israel. In this verse of Scripture Isaiah is speaking to God’s people about how faithful the Lord is God’s Word is saturated with His precious promises. It came at a time when Israel was in need of words of comfort because of all of the ups and downs that they had been facing. They were in need of God’s strength and God’s presence.

The Bible verses leading to this one that I am highlighting are very telling because they explain that God’s promises are absolute. Isaiah 41:8 reveals, “But you Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the descendants of Abraham My friend.” Here we can plainly see that the Lord is reiterating the promises that He made to Abraham and Jacob. Once God reveals a Word you can take it at face value. Remember He puts His Word even above His own Name, Psalm 138:2.

Then He goes even deeper in Isaiah 41:9 when Isaiah, inspired by the Holy Spirit, states “You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest regions, and said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away.” God is speaking to the nation of Israel letting them know that He has chosen them no matter how far away they have strayed away from Him.

The same applies to us today! When we feel distant from the Lord for whatever reason, we need to know that He will never leave us nor forsake us, Deuteronomy 31:6. His everlasting arms are there waiting to hold you in your time of need. God’s strength and His steadfast love are incomparable. The entire Bible is filled with the fact that God loves us even when we don’t deserve it, He is love!

Now let’s take a closer look at the primary passage of Scripture that I want to focus on out of the book of Isaiah. The words “fear thou” are the Hebrew word yārē’ which means: to fear or be afraid. It is the type of fear that has a firm grip on you. Then immediately after these words are said the Lord reveals to His people through the prophet Isaiah why they should not be afraid, He states “…for I am with you…”

So the Lord is reassuring them that no matter what the circumstance may look like, they do not need to be afraid because one of His incredible truths is that He never leaves our side no matter what! That is a promise and a guarantee then and now for us today. Fear is a spirit that the enemy uses over and over again to keep God’s people bound and unable to move forward. The devil is a liar!

Another part of this verse of Scripture that I want to bring to light is when Isaiah says “dismayed” which is the Hebrew word šāʿâwhich means: to look in dismay, gaze about in anxiety. The nation of Israel had been through so much tribulation that it was causing them to be anxious of what was to come. God is reassuring them that they could trust Him through the storms of life.

The Lord also states through the prophet “I will strengthen you” which is the Hebrew word ‘āmēṣwhich means: to strengthen, secure (for oneself), make inflexible, and assure. The support of God is like no other, He is the only One that has the ability to provide you with strength with His everlasting arms because His strength has no end.

Another important part of the passage of Scripture is when the Lord mentions the words “I will uphold you” which is the Hebrew word tāmaḵ which means: to hold up, and support. So what we can see throughout this verse of Scripture is the Lord continuing to give His children words of encouragement. He has stated that He will strengthen them, be with them, and uphold them.

God’s promise is still true for us today. The problem that a lot of Christians face is that they do not take the Holy Bible at face value. So what ends up happening when facing the trials and tribulations of life is that they lose faith and hope that God is Who He says He is. Our eternal God is the same yesterday, today, and forever more, Hebrews 13:8.

The final part of the verse out of Isaiah 41:10 that I want to highlight is the use of the words “My righteous” which is the Hebrew word ṣeḏeqwhich means: righteousness (as vindicated), justification (in controversy), deliverance, victory, and prosperity of God as covenant-keeping in redemption.

God is being completely clear in this part of the Scripture telling the children of Israel and us that He will hold us up with His victorious right hand. That goes for whatever it is that we need: deliverance, victory, prosperity, and anything else that you call on God for. A lot of times we try to minimize the Lord thinking that He will not come through. He is speaking through the prophet Isaiah saying not so, He will uphold you with His right hand of righteousness.

Another thing to point out pertaining to the Lord having the ability to uphold you with His mighty arm is that no other “god” has that capability. One reference that we can look back at is the prophets of Baal calling out to their false god. Elijah had the victory at Mount Carmel when the Lord answered by fire. 1 Kings 18:26 discloses “So they took the bull which was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying, “O Baal, hear us!” But there was no voice; no one answered…”

Then we see how the true eternal God responds to the real prophet Elijah, 1 Kings 18:37-38 reveals “Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.” Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench.” This is an example of the power of the presence of God.

Another verse of Scripture out of the book of Isaiah that reiterates the authority of the right hand of God is found in Isaiah 40:10. The prophet reveals “Behold, the Lord God shall come with a strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him.” In this verse we are given another demonstration of the power of our heavenly Father.

Make no mistake about it; there is only one God that has the ability to completely fulfill every one of your needs. The problem is that He is often mistakenly represented. Isaiah through the leading of the Holy Spirit explains to us that the Lord has the power and ability to hold us up in our time of need with His mighty hand. It is our responsibility to take His Word at face value. He means what He says and He says exactly what He means, either you believe Him or you don’t!
