Know Your Enemy-He is an Imitator
Whether you are a believer or a non-believer you are fighting against a powerful adversary that wants nothing more than to kill, steal, and destroy every single one of us. One of the greatest deceptions that he uses on all of humanity is making us think that he does not exist. He wants you to believe that he is a fictional character or a myth that has been passed on from generation to generation.
That is very far from the truth and in fact you are battling a very structured militant kingdom that uses your ignorance to establish strongholds in your life. If you do not know how he operates then you are already at a disadvantage. One of his strongest weapons is the ability to hide in plain sight. That is why it is so important to understand his tactics so that you can be a step ahead at all times.
One thing that you need to comprehend is the fact that the devil is not a creator but he is a duplicator. No matter how hard he tries he cannot create and so what he does is takes what the Lord has created and perverts it. He will use the Lords Words and twist them around to deceive you, he will use demonic power to perform signs and wonders to trick you, and many other ways that he attempts to imitate the Lord.
The perfect passages of Scripture that disclose exactly what the Lord has to say about the enemy perverting His ways are found in Acts 13:8-10. It states, “But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?”
There is a lot to unpack in these powerful verses of Scripture that Luke revealed to us through the leading of the Holy Spirit. The first thing that we can see is the Apostle Paul rebuking Elymas who was a sorcerer and an agent of Satan because he was attempting to turn the proconsul (commander) away from the faith. He was trying to get a high ranking leader to come into agreement with his lies.
Then he describes how he is making it happen. “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?” This devil’s agent was using deceit and perversion to twist God’s perfect ways that are found in His Word.
We see time and time again where Satan will take something that God created and turn it into an abomination. The reason he does that is because he doesn’t want you to get a hold of the True Word of God and live according to what is written in it. He knows that the Holy Bible is a double-edged Sword that has the power to destroy his tactics and expose his agenda.
I cannot express to you enough the importance of reading the Word of God daily. Ephesians 4:14 reveals, “That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting.” If your foundation is not firm in Christ then your chances of getting tricked by one of the enemy’s schemes is extremely high.
Remember he cannot create because God is the Creator but he will make his version look so authentic that it will be difficult to decipher the real from the counterfeit. The devil is a very powerful demonic being and he has the ability to perform miracles, signs, and wonders, 2 Thessalonians 2:9. If you are not being led by the Spirit of God and have the Scriptures embedded in your heart and mind, you will get deceived.
The world is become darker and darker and the devil is getting bolder and bolder with his plan. He is no longer hiding his schemes from us and in fact he is bold enough to plant his agents in the very churches that we are attending. It is getting more difficult to distinguish between the false prophets, teachers, pastors, etc. from the real ones. Some things to look for pertaining to counterfeit Christians are:
They sway away from the Word of God and in fact barely preach out of the Bible.
They use things as a point of contact to get you to come into agreement with their false doctrine like: honey, other food items, salt in your house, or specific herbs to bathe in. By you doing these things you are being linked to the altars that they have established to the enemy and knowingly or unknowingly aligning yourself with them.
One of the biggest indicators that you may be dealing with false prophets, teachers, pastors, etc. is they will ask for enormous amounts of money every time that they step onto the pulpit. God’s Word declares in Matthew 10:8 “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
Another clear sign is that they don’t point everything back to Jesus. Remember He should get all the glory in every situation not the leader, pastor, prophet, etc.
Now let’s take a look at the passages of Scripture found in the book of Exodus that give us a definitive example of how much of an imitator the devil truly is!
The Lord placed many plagues on Egypt through Moses because Pharaoh, King of Egypt would not let the people of Israel go. The plagues that the Lord commanded Moses to perform were being replicated by the servants of Pharaoh whom were also servants of Satan.
Plagues of Egypt
1st example:
Exodus 7:8-9 states, “Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’ ”
Exodus 7:10 “So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.”
Then we see how Pharaoh responds in Exodus 7:11-12 “But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. For every man threw down his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.”
2nd Example
Exodus 7:19 states, “Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they may become blood.”
Exodus 7:20 “And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the Lord commanded. So he lifted up the rod and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants. And all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.”
Then we see how Pharaoh responds in Exodus 7:22 “Then the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments; and Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, as the Lord had said.”
3rd example
Exodus 8:5 states “Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.’ ”
Exodus 8:6 “So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.”
Then we see how Pharaoh responds in Exodus 8:7, “And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt.”
4th example
Exodus 8:16 states, “So the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your rod, and strike the dust of the land, so that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.”
Exodus 8:17 “And they did so. For Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the earth, and it became lice on man and beast. All the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.”
Then we see how Pharaoh responds in Exodus 8:18 “Now the magicians so worked with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not.”
Then Exodus 8:19 reveals some very vital information, “Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” They recognized that there was a greater power at work than the limited power that they were working under.
We can see a distinct difference between the first three examples and the last example. The magicians could only replicate Moses and Aaron to a certain extent and the reason for that is because Moses and Aaron were backed by the Lord and the magicians were backed by the devil, tremendous difference.
One thing that we need to realize as believers of Jesus Christ is the fact that the enemy is going to attempt to imitate everything that the Lord does. One way that you will know that it is from the devil and his kingdom is because it will be perverted. We can see examples of this perversion throughout the entire Word of God.
We are living in a day where some of the prophets in the church are working with the same divination as the witches and warlocks are. The teachers and preachers are perverting the Word of God preaching what the congregation wants to hear versus what they need to hear 2 Timothy 4:3.
We have to mindful of the devil and his devices so that we do not get deceived. The best ways to ensure that you are alert and vigilant are: remaining in the Word of God consistently, fast and pray, and be led by the Holy Spirit. He is the One that will guide you into absolute truth (John 16:13) and will bring Scriptures to your remembrance (John 14:26) so that you can use them to combat the attacks of the enemy the same way that Jesus did!
Conclusion
The fact is that we are up against a powerful adversary that wants to annihilate every single one of us. He uses many tactics and devices to achieve his goal including taking the things of the Lord and perverting them. His hope is that you will fall for his schemes which in turn will lead you down the road of destruction.
We are living in the last days and we cannot afford to be hearers of the word only and not doers, James 1:22. We cannot afford to listen to doctrines of devils (1 Timothy 4:1). We need to learn to walk in Spirit and Truth (John 4:24) and that Truth that we need is only found in the Word of God.
