New Testament Scriptures on Healing
The Lord our Healer
Jesus Christ is mentioned as our Healer in the Word of God, Isaiah 53:5 states, But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” In this passage of Scripture Christ is mentioned in the Old Testament through a prophecy by the Prophet Isaiah declaring that by “His stripes we are healed.”
Christ died a brutal death on the cross at Calvary so that He could pay for our sin penalty in full. This would allow us to have a chance of eternal life with Him in heaven. There are so many other benefits that have been afforded to us because of what Christ did for us. One of the blessings that we get to partake in is experiencing healing while we are still in this mortal body.
God is also mentioned as our Healer and in fact one of His Names is Jehovah Rapha which means “The Lord Who heals.” Exodus 15:26 details, “and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”
The Holy Spirit also plays a vital role when it comes to healing through the Word of God. He is our Helper whom the Father sent in the Name of Jesus, John 14:26. The Lord is seated at the right hand of the Father so it is the Holy Spirit that is giving us power to heal and restore our hearts, bodies, and minds. He helps us in our weaknesses and that includes moments when we are sick in our bodies, Romans 8:26-27.
When we are faced with sickness and disease that is threatening to take us out we need to stand on the Word of God without wavering. God’s divine healing, spiritual healing, physical healing, and emotional healing is without limits. Even in the darkest valley where death is knocking at your door: God’s promises paired with the Power of the Holy Spirit, and Jesus’ Name have the ability to heal your body.
I am going to list some healing Scriptures that you can meditate on out of the New Testament. Get them so saturated in your heart and mind that they become a part of your thought process. God is clear that He wants us to meditate on His Word day and night, Joshua 1:8. The more Scriptures that you have in your Scriptural memory bank, the more arsenals you have at your disposal.
New Testament Scriptures
Matthew 4:23-24 “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.”
Matthew 9:20-21 “And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.”
Matthew 9:29-30 “Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.”
Matthew 9:35 “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”
Matthew 10:8 “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
Mark 5:34 “And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
Luke 5:17 “Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.”
Luke 8:48 “And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
Luke 8:50 “But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well.”
Luke 17:14-15 “So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God.”
Acts 4:30 “by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”
James 5:16 “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
1 Peter 2:24 “who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”
Acts 10:38 “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
These are some of the New Testament Scriptures pertaining to healing that you can meditate on. They will remind you that you have the power to overcome sickness and disease because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross at Calvary.
His death paid the sin debt for all of humanity. His sacrifice is what affords us the free gift of salvation should we accept it. If you are a believer of Jesus Christ you are a candidate of the many benefits that come along with salvation including good health and healing.
When Christ rose from the dead he overcame the devil and his demonic kingdom. Colossians 2:15 depicts, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Here we can clearly see that the successful atonement that Christ made for our sins disarmed the enemy, principalities, and powers. This did not remove the presence of sickness and disease but it removed the potency it has over the life of a believer of Jesus Christ.
Over and over again in the New Testament we can see how Jesus Christ healed the sick everywhere He went. For instance: Matthew 4:23 details, “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.”
In this passage of Scripture we can conclude that Jesus Christ healed “All” kinds of sickness and “All” kinds of disease. He is not excluding any sickness or disease out of the equation but He healed all kinds of them. He is showing us that He had the power to heal and conquer all infirmities and illnesses.
Then the Lord tells us all to do the same as He did. Matthew 10:8 reveals, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” One of the things that He is telling us to do is to heal the sick so if He is giving us the guidance to do so it means that it can be done. We can lay hands on the sick and they “WILL” recover, Mark 16:18.
Another thing to point out is the fact that there are many verses of Scripture that disclose the fact that “we are already healed.” What this means is that it is already done because of the stripes that Jesus endured on our behalf. He stated that “it is finished” and that is exactly what He meant.
He did his part now it is up to us to take the Word of God at face value and apply it to our daily lives. When we begin to feel our body afflicted with sickness or disease we need to proclaim God’s Word with boldness and in the Name of Jesus!
