Old Testament Scriptures on healing

The Lord our Healer

One of the Names of God is Jehovah Rapha which means “The Lord Who heals.” Exodus 15:26 details, “and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

Jesus Christ is also mentioned as our Healer in the Word of God, Isaiah 53:5 states, But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” In this passage of Scripture Christ is mentioned in the Old Testament through a prophecy by the Prophet Isaiah declaring that by “His stripes we are healed.”

Jesus Christ died a brutal death on the cross at Calvary so that He could pay for our sin penalty in full. This would allow us to have a chance of eternal life with Him in heaven. There are so many other benefits that have been afforded to us because of what Christ did for us. One of the blessings that we get to partake in is experiencing healing while we are still in this mortal body.

The Holy Spirit also plays a vital role when it comes to healing through the Word of God. He is our Helper whom the Father sent in the Name of Jesus, John 14:26. The Lord is seated at the right hand of the Father so it is the Holy Spirit that is giving us power to heal and restore our hearts, bodies, and minds. He helps us in our weaknesses and that includes moments when we are sick in our bodies, Romans 8:26-27.

When we are faced with sickness and disease that is threatening to take us out we need to stand on the Word of God without wavering. God’s divine healing, spiritual healing, physical healing, and emotional healing is without limits. Even in the darkest valley where death is knocking at your door: God’s promises paired with the Power of the Holy Spirit, and Jesus’ Name have the ability to heal your body.

I am going to list some healing Scriptures that you can meditate on out of the Old Testament. Get them so saturated in your heart and mind that they become a part of your thought process. God is clear that He wants us to meditate on His Word day and night, Joshua 1:8. The more Scriptures that you have in your Scriptural memory bank, the more arsenals you have at your disposal.

Old Testament Scriptures

Exodus 15:26 “and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

Deuteronomy 7:15 “And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you.”

2 Chronicles 7:14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Psalm 30:2 “O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me.”

Psalm 103:2-3 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.”

Psalm 107:20 “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Proverbs 4:20-22 “My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.”

Isaiah 38:16 “O Lord, by these things men live; and in all these things is the life of my spirit; so You will restore me and make me live.”

Isaiah 53:5 “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

Jeremiah 17:14 “Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.”

Jeremiah 30:17 “For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord, ‘Because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; no one seeks her.”

Proverbs 3:7-8 “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.”

Isaiah 55:11 “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

Isaiah 40:31 “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

Joel 3:10 “Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’ ”

Psalm 41:3 “The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.”

These are just some of the Old Testament Scriptures that you can meditate on to remind you that God is our Healer. It is vital that we allow the Word of God to renew our entire frame of mind, Romans 12:2. The Lord gave us His only Son as the perfect Sacrifice to pay the sin debt for the entire world. When you receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior you are afforded all of the benefits that He died for you to have including good health and healing.

Why would you then not take full advantage of the benefits that He has given every one of His Children? The Great Commission that Jesus gave all of His followers is for us to make disciples. It is almost impossible to follow through with this commandment if you are laid up in bed sick. The Lord triumphed over the devil and his demonic kingdom which weakened the power that sickness had over us! We need to walk in the authority that was given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ!

One of the main things that I want to point out that is a common theme throughout Scripture is that the Lord gives us stipulations to abide by if we want to receive the promises that He has given us. For instance Proverbs 3:7-8 reveals “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.”

The stipulation that God is giving us is: fear the Lord and depart from evil. The result for following His provision is: It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones. Over and over again the Lord gives us the requirements that need to be followed in order to receive the promise that He is giving us.

Another example is found in Exodus 15:26 it states, “and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

The stipulations that God is giving us are: “and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes. The result for following His guidelines is: I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians.

It is important that we have a clear understanding of what Biblical rules and regulations the Lord is giving us so that we can ensure to receive His promises. Throughout the entire Old Testament we can see where people that were obedient to the Word of God were blessed and those that weren’t were not.

It is the same for us today. If we want to receive all of the amazing benefits that the Lord Jesus Christ died for us to have we need to make sure that we are abiding by the guidelines that He has set for us found in His Word. I cannot stress enough the importance of getting into the Lord’s Word, studying it, digesting it, and applying it to your daily life!
