“When you have the Lord in your heart, nothing should be able to steal your joy.” Erica Willis
Keeping a peaceful mindset can be a struggle; especially if you’re facing trials and tribulations that seem to have no end. During the storms of life we have to remain unmovable knowing that things always come to an end and nothing is permanent. Joy will come in the morning. Mediating on the Word of God during those difficult seasons will help you remain strong.
The enemy will use these moments to try to get you to lose your faith; he is a liar and the father of lies! He likes to take advantage of your vulnerable frame of mind because it is the perfect time for him to plant seeds in your head. Some of the feelings that he will project on you are doubt, fear, hopelessness, and depression.
What these negative emotions will do in your life is steal your joy. God is clear when He lets us know that His joy is our strength, Nehemiah 8:10. We cannot afford to allow sorrow and unhappiness to consume us instead we are to bring those thoughts into captivity into the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. Counteract them with the Word of God!
So what can we do when we sense these heavy feelings coming over us? The Lord tells us in His word that we are to put on the garment of praise. In other words praise the Lord when times are hard, praise the Lord when you don’t know what to do, praise the Lord when you are at your lowest low. Praise the Lord so much and so often that it becomes like a piece of garment that you put on!
Scriptures that you can meditate on pertaining to having joy:
Romans 15:13-“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Philippians 4:6-7”Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
John 16:33-“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Psalm 27:6-“And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.”
Psalm 30:5-“For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”
