Positive Quote for the Week: Understand God’s Blessings

“If it causes you more harm than good, it can’t be a blessing from God!” Erica Willis

A Blessing comes in many shapes and forms and at times the understanding of whether or not you are really getting Blessed can get confusing. When it comes to having material possessions, you want to be very cautious that they don’t become an idol. What I mean by that is you do not want to begin to idolize the car, the house, the clothes, or shoes so much so that you forget who you are. That is when they become more than just accessories but more of what you use to solidify your identity.

Someone that is blessed doesn’t have to have the latest phone, the most expensive purse, or the nicest outfit because all of that is just temporary. True blessings are eternal and are treasures that you store in heaven. Matthew 6:19-20 gives us the perfect depiction and it states, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

What is the purpose of having so much stuff here on Earth if you can’t take it with you when you leave? Instead focus on doing Kingdom Work any chance that you can. Feed the homeless when you can, help the less fortunate, share the gospel of Jesus Christ, pray for your family, use your gifts for His Kingdom because at the end of the day you will have to account for everything that you did while you were living.

God wants us to live a life and a life in abundance in every aspect of the word. It’s ok to have nice things but you should never put them before the Lord. One of the clearest passages of Scripture that you can reference when you aren’t sure if that material item is a blessing is found in Proverbs 10:22. It states, “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.”

Scriptures about true blessings

Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”

3 John 1:2 “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

Ephesians 3:20 “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
