Salvation Scriptures-Reconciliation

Before we get into the primary verse of Scripture pertaining to reconciliation let’s take a look into what Salvation actually means. It is acknowledging that we are sinners and in need of a Savior. We cannot save ourselves but it was the blood that was shed by Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross that saves us from an eternal life separated from God.

One thing that we need to completely comprehend is the fact that God and sin do not mix. Psalm 5:4-5 depicts this perfectly as David details, “For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, nor shall evil dwell with You. The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity.”

The Lord cannot be affiliated with sin in any way, He is Holy and pure. Unfortunately because of the transgression of Adam and Eve at the Garden of Eden, sin entered into the life of every person born after that moment, Genesis 3:1-13. Due to that direct disobedience it created a wedge between God and all of humanity. We can see repercussions of this original sin throughout the Holy Bible.

Before Christ died as the perfect Sacrifice for all sin, we can see the process of atonement depicted in the Old Testament. Only the high priest had access to the Most Holy Place which was called the Holy of Holies where the blood of a perfect animal without spot or blemish was sprinkled on the ark of the covenant for the removal of sin.

This was done once a year by the High Priest to make atonement for his sins and for the sins of others. The moment that Jesus died, the veil separating the rest of the temple and the Holy of Holies was completely torn in two, Matthew 27:50-51.

This was an outward demonstration of the fact that God accepted the perfect sin offering which was His only Son. Our Lord Jesus Christ gave up His life for you and me so that we can have the ability to be cleansed of all sin, have eternal life in Heaven with our Heavenly Father, and have a personal relationship with God.

His death allows us the freedom to not only communicate with God but to have the liberty to approach the throne boldly, Hebrews 4:16. What a tremendous Blessing that can never be taken for granted! God does not discriminate or show partiality but in fact He is very clear when He states that anyone that calls on the Name of the Lord can be saved. God’s plan from the beginning was that none should perish but that ALL would have eternal salvation as the body of Christ!

Let’s take a look at a powerful passage of Scripture that shows us the importance of Salvation when it comes to reconciliation.

Romans 5:10

“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”

When Adam and Eve fell into sin it created a barrier between God and man. This meant that we were in need of a Redeemer, a perfect sacrifice. That perfect Sacrifice could only be done through Jesus Christ. He became sin for us and died on the cross at Calvary paying our entire sin debt allowing us to have the free gift of Salvation, 2 Corinthians 5:21.

In this New Testament Scripture Paul reiterates the fact that we were enemies of God because our lives were filled with sin. The word “enemies” being used here is the Greek word echthros which means: at enmity with God by their sin. Sin is always going to lead to death both physical and spiritual and that is why the Lord is so opposed to it, Romans 6:23. He created us in His image (Genesis 1:27) and not in the image of the enemy.

The words “we were reconciled” being used here is the Greek word katallassō which means: to be restored to the favor of God, to recover God’s favor. Paul then gives us the reason that reconciliation is even a possibility and that is because of the death of Jesus Christ. The grace of God allowed us to have a second chance to get it right and live with Him for eternity. That is those that place their entire faith in Christ and what He did on the cross at Calvary.

This is the good news of the Gospel of Christ Jesus and the message of reconciliation back to God the Father, there is no other way! John 14:6 depicts, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” This powerful passage of Scripture goes along with the primary verse that I am highlighting out of the book of Romans. Paul states, “…we shall be saved by His life.”

In other words those that place their faith in Jesus Christ will receive salvation and eternal life. Before you become a Christian you are spiritually dead and that is why God is clear that we need to be “born again.” John 3:3 is definitive when Jesus states, “…unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

The only sacrifice that is acceptable for salvation in the eyes of God is the perfect sacrifice of His one and only Son. Through Jesus Christ and Him alone can one enter into the kingdom of God and receive eternal life. We cannot atone for our own sins because we are not sinless. Romans 3:23 breaks it down as Paul details, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Jesus was without spot or blemish, a perfect sacrifice and we can see that depicted in 1 Peter 1:19 “but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” He was also sinless and we can see that revealed in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Jesus gave His life so that we can have life and life abundantly, John 10:10. Unfortunately a lot of people do not take their walk with Christ seriously or even worse they don’t believe that Jesus is Who He says He is. God is very clear:

Matthew 12:30 “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.”

Matthew 7:23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Revelation 3:16 “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”

God does not take sin lightly and will not have anything to do with it. He paid a hefty price by giving up His one and only Son for us and Jesus paid the ultimate price for the entire sin debt with His life. 1 Corinthians 7:23 states, “You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.

You are so precious in the eyes of God and He cares so much for every single one of us not wanting any of us to perish but to have eternal life with Him, 2 Peter 3:9. The thing is that the Lord gave us all free will to make the choice to accept the free gift of Salvation or not. One thing I do know is the tomorrow is not a guarantee and today is the day of Salvation, 2 Corinthians 6:2!
