Scriptures with Stipulations-No Weapon Will Prosper
The Word is God Is filled with so many amazing promises that He gives His children. Unfortunately many of us don’t receive all of the benefits that the Lord has afforded us to have because of our lack of knowledge. The word of God is considered a Biblical law (Joshua 1:8) and what that means is if you want to see the Scriptures fulfilled in your life you have to abide by the stipulations attached to them.
One major mistake that a lot of Christians make is not reading God’s Word for themselves. So, they rely on a pastor’s sermon on a Sunday morning to feed them the Lord’s Truth. That is never going to help you when it comes to studying to show yourself approved meaning the ability to rightly dividing God’s Word, 2 Timothy 2:15. The Lord expects every single of one of us to read the Bible, study it, and apply it to our daily lives.
When you lean on another person to interpret the Word of God for you they are only going to feed you their version and understanding. What ends up happening is they will give you a verse of Scripture but do not give you the entire meaning of what the passage is telling you. If you aren’t getting the whole verse in its proper context you will miss the stipulation needed to activate the promise attached to it.
I would often wonder why some of my prayers were not getting answered in certain situations and it was because I didn’t have a full understanding of the Scriptures let alone the requirements tied to them. God truly responds to His Word and in fact holds it at such a high regard that He places it above His own Name, Psalm 138:2.
God does not lie so if He said it He will do it and that goes for the promises that He made to us throughout His Word. A lot of them come with a condition that needs to be met before you will begin to see any results. I am going to go over one of the most popular passages of Scripture that most people have heard at one time or another but entirely miss the prerequisites associated with it.
Isaiah 54:17
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.”
This powerful Scripture is Isaiah’s words given to him by the Holy Spirit explaining to God’s people about weapons being formed. The promise that the prophet Isaiah is letting us know about is the fact that no weapon formed against us will prosper. We know that weapons are going to form that is not anything new considering the fact that the devil wants to kill, steal, and to destroy, John 10:10.
That is why we should never find it strange that we come under demonic attack it is not called spiritual warfare for no reason. We are up against a very powerful adversary that comes after the Kingdom of our God every chance that he gets.
However, the promise of God to us today is that those weapons will form but they will not prosper. Make no mistake about it, you will face trials and tribulations but as long as you are following the Lord’s guidelines and principles on how to live your life as a believer of Jesus Christ you will make it through!
Let’s take a deeper look into the promises laid out in Scripture out of Isaiah 54:17. The word “weapon” used is the Hebrew word “kᵊlî” which means: utensil, implement, apparatus, and vessel used for hunting or war. In other words God is saying to you that every weapon that the devil tries to use against you to hunt you down to destroy you, God says it will not prosper!
Another important aspect of this particular verse of Scripture is the words “shall prosper” which is the Hebrew word “ṣālēaḥ” which means: to advance or to prosper. So what the Lord is saying is that despite the enemy attempting to establish those fiery arrows, they were not going to advance or succeed.
When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will hold up a standard against him, Isaiah 59:19. This promise, the promises found in Isaiah 54:17, and so many other amazing promises that God gives us are found throughout the entire Bible. We have to get to a place where we can study to show ourselves approved so that we can have a clear understanding of God’s Word and His assurances.
There are additional words that are important out of this passage of Scripture out of the book of Isaiah. The first one is the word “tongue” which is the Hebrew word “lāšôn” which means: an organ of speech both good and bad. A lot of people underestimate this tiny but deadly member of the body. One thing that we want to put into perspective is the fact that life and death is in the power of your tongue, Proverbs 18:21.
God knew that the words a person spoke had the power to change an entire circumstance. So, He wanted to teach His people how to fight back against the insulting threatening tongues that were coming against them. The words “you shall condemn” is the Hebrew word “rāšaʿ” which means to condemn as guilty (in ethical or religious relations). So God is telling us that we have the right to rebuke every demonic word curse said against you or your family.
We have the right and authority to tear down those negative words being spoken against us known or unknown. Many people are dealing with affliction from the enemy simply because of words being said against them. The devil is a liar! We need to know Whom we belong to. How many of us still today struggle with not knowing our identity in Christ. This is one of the most powerful and necessary things for us to have a full understanding of!
We are entitled to so many blessings that the Lord has afforded us to have. The unfortunate part is that we don’t comprehend the fact that a lot of promises have stipulations attached to them that need to be fulfilled correctly.
Now let’s take a look at the stipulation that is attached to these powerful promises found in Isaiah 54:17.
Isaiah then goes on to explain how one would receive these guarantees found in God’s Word. The last part of the passage of Scripture states, “This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord.” The words “the heritage” being used here is the Hebrew word “naḥălâ” which means: portion of share assigned by God.
The other part that I want to take a closer look at is when the prophet explains “servants of the Lord” the word “servants” used there is the Hebrew word “ʿeḇeḏ” which means: servants, worshipers of God. So, what we can conclude from Isaiah is that God’s servants are those that worship Him and Him alone. As we can see this promise is not for everyone but it is for those that are worshipers of God a devoted helper and follower of Jesus Christ assisting Him in advancing His Kingdom.
A lot of Christians say that they love the Lord with all of their heart but their hearts are far from Him. He is very clear about what He thinks about a lukewarm Christian Revelation 3:16 reveals, “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” He wants you to be on fire for Him worshiping Him in Spirit and in truth, John 4:24.
Those that really love God with all of their hearts and are willing to serve with humility will see the promises found in Isaiah 54:17 being fulfilled in their lives. A lot of times you will hear a preacher proclaiming “no weapon formed against you shall prosper” but what they fail to tell you is who God was speaking to in that text.
Conclusion
One of the greatest misconceptions that Christians believe is that all promises in God’s Word are just handed to you without having to do anything. Unfortunately that is just not the case. A lot of the Lord’s guarantees have stipulations attached to them but if you are not studying the Scriptures for yourself you are going to miss them.
It is good to sit under a great spirit filled pastor that preaches the undiluted Word of God but the Lord expects us to study to show ourselves approved, 2 Timothy 2:15. No matter how great the leader of the church is, he is not a better teacher than the Holy Spirit Whom can break down the Word of God for you since He is the Author and the Interpreter of the Scriptures!
