Scriptures with Stipulations-Seeking God’s Kingdom
God’s Word is saturated with so many amazing promises that He has afforded Christians to have. Unfortunately a lot of us don’t truly understand the stipulations that are attached to His assurances. Our lack of comprehension is what is preventing the Word of God from truly working in our lives. We can never forget the fact that the Lord’s Word is considered a Book of the Law and God expects us to adhere to the guidelines written on every page.
That is why it is vital that you don’t just rely on your pastor preaching a Sunday morning service to provide you with God’s Word but you have to study the Scriptures for yourself. One of the reasons this is crucial is because often times a preacher will give you a part of the passage that he is preaching from but leaves out the stipulation attached to it. What that does is prevent you from gaining the key information needed to activate the promise associated with that particular verse.
It is our responsibility to read the Scriptures for ourselves. That way we can put every passage in its proper context. The Bible will build up your level of faith and understanding when it comes to God’s Word. So, the more Scriptures that you have embedded in your heart and mind the more faith you will naturally develop. Most of God’s guarantees come with prerequisites attached to them so the more that you study the Word of God, the clearer these preconditions become. Never forget that born again believers have the free gift of the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us and some of His key roles are to bring Scripture to your remembrance as well as interpret their meanings, John 14:26.
If your Scriptural memory bank is empty then He won’t have anything to bring to your recollection when you need it the most. That is why it is critical that you take the time out of each day to study, digest, and apply the Lord’s Word to your life. When you do you will begin to identify the necessary conditions that need to be met in order to see God’s promises fulfilled. That is why the Lord calls His Truth the daily bread meaning that it must be consumed every single day.
Now let’s take a look at a New Testament passage of Scripture that discloses a very important requirement connected to it.
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
There are so many amazing lessons that we can learn from this powerful verse of Scripture. God is giving us a very imperative requirement here that we need to pay closer attention to. The word “seek” being used here is the Greek word “zēteō” which means: to seek after, seek for, aim at, and strive after. The word “kingdom” being used here is the Greek word “basileia” which means: of its blessings and benefits, whether present or future.
The word “righteousness” being used is the Greek word “dikaiosynē” which means: walking in the way of righteousness equivalent to an upright, righteous, man, the righteousness which God demands. We need to understand that the only reason that being righteous is even a possibility is because of Jesus Christ’s atoning work on the cross at Calvary. It is nothing that we can do on our own.
What we can determine so far is that Matthew is giving believers of Jesus Christ the prerequisite to an amazing promise. He is telling the born again believer that we are to seek, aim, and strive after the Kingdom first in order to receive blessings bother present and future. Not just any Kingdom but the text is making it clear when it states, “the Kingdom of God.” So in other words we have to put God and His will for us first before anything or anyone else.
Another part of the stipulation that Matthew is revealing is walking in “His righteousness” meaning that it is for those that are living upright in the Lord’s eyes. Following the righteousness that God demands. What exactly does it mean to live according to His righteousness?
The Lord’s guideline for every single one of us is laid out in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. One of the clearest passages of Scripture that tell us exactly how we can live our lives morally in the eyes of God is found in Joshua 1:8. It reveals, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
What the Lord is telling us through this powerful verse of Scripture is that we should keep God’s law written on our hearts by meditating on it day and night. Then He reveals to us the benefits that we obtain by abiding by the Book of the Law (Bible). We will make our way prosperous and have good success. This is the same concept that we see in the primary verse of Scripture that I am highlighting found in the Book of Matthew.
Let’s take a closer look at the promise given to us in Matthew 6:33.
It states, “…all these things shall be added to you.” What an amazing assurance that we can stand on knowing that we have a loving Father that will provide for His children. Digging deeper into what “all” is referring to we need to put it into proper context by looking at the Scriptures that came right before this one.
Matthew 6:30-32 discloses, “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.” Here we can see a definitive distinction when it comes to what the word “all” means in the passage of Scripture.
Our Heavenly Father will supply all of our basic necessities and we will never lack for anything. As believers of Jesus Christ we should have the kind of faith that knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Lord will provide all of your needs even in the middle of a storm. You might be going through a situation right now where money is tight, jobs are hard to come by, and the bills keep piling up!
If you are living your life upright and abiding by the Lord’s Words written in your Bible then His promise to you is that you don’t have to worry about your needs being met. He knows exactly what you need before you even ask, Matthew 6:8. The question is whether or not you have the Faith to believe His Word at face value.
Conclusion
It can be discouraging when you don’t see your prayers getting answered or you don’t seem to get your breakthrough. The problem is a lot of us do not take the time to read the Bible let alone study, digest it, and apply it to our daily lives. So what ends up happening is you don’t follow through with God’s promises successfully.
The fact remains that a lot of the Lord’s assurances come with prerequisites but if you aren’t aware that they are even there, how could you effectively apply them? That is why it is vital that you make it a daily habit to get into God’s Word so that won’t miss out on His incredible promises!
