Tips for walking in Good Health-Incline Your Ears to God’s Word

Incline your ears

Proverbs 4:20

“My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.”

This powerful passage of Scripture out of the book of Proverbs was written by King Solomon, One of the wisest kings that ever lived. Through the leading of the Holy Spirit he is giving his son words of advice when it came to living his life being obedient to the Word of God. Those words of wisdom are still valid for us till this very day and if we want to live a healthy life it is imperative that we incline our ears to what God is saying to us through His Word.

Let’s take a closer look at the primary passage of Scripture found in the book of Proverbs. The word “incline” being used is the Hebrew word nāṭâ which means: incline the ear, of men (in obedience to God). It is not enough for you to listen to what the Word of God is saying but you want to also remain obedient to God’s law.

That is one of the most important parts to keep in mind pertaining to walking in good health. If you hear Godly Wisdom but just disregard it; what you are doing is preventing it from marinating in your heart and mind. Your health is directly connected to your obedience in regards to the Word of God. That is why it is crucial that you study it, digest it, and apply it to your daily life.

The Lord is very clear when He states in James 1:22, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James through the leading of the Holy Spirit is letting us know the significance of heeding to our Heavenly Father’s Words. When we are not living our lives following God’s Truth, that is when we begin to get ourselves in trouble: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Hosea 4:6 reveals, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” The warfare going on in our lives including sickness and disease are almost always as a result of our lack of knowledge of God’s Word. We need to be fully aware of our enemy’s devices, 2 Corinthians 2:11.

The verses of Scripture right after the primary one that I am highlighting in the book of Proverbs disclose some key information that we need to understand. King Solomon writes, “Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh,” Proverbs 4:21-22. He is making it clear to us that we should be focused on God’s Word day and night. It should be so saturated in our hearts that they will begin to produce health to our whole body.

One thing that we often underestimate is the power of the Lord’s Word when it comes to our overall well-being. King Solomon mentions the fact that it is health to all of our flesh (our physical bodies) and that should not be taken lightly. It is literally the remedy for anything that you are facing: physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.

The reason that the devil fights the Holy Bible so much is because he knows that once a believer of our Lord Jesus Christ gains the revelation of its potency it will cause problems for his kingdom. We need to understand that life is spiritual and in this spiritual life you are going to have to fight an enemy that you cannot see with your naked eye.

One of the greatest lies that he wants all of us to believe is that he doesn’t exist. He doesn’t want you to know the Truth found in God’s Word. His goal is to steal, kill, and destroy every single one of us (John 10:10) and one of the primary ways that he does it is through sickness and disease. If he can hinder you physical health he knows that it will slow you down making it difficult to progress in the Kingdom of God.

Another passage of Scripture that I want to highlight pertaining to walking in good health is found in the book of Joshua.

Joshua 1:8

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

There is so much key information to unpack in this powerful passage of Scripture. First we can see that the Lord is making it known to us that His book is not just letters on pages, not even close! The Holy Bible is a Book of Law that the Lord established for both the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness to abide by with no exceptions. It cannot be altered or swayed in any kind of way.

It is filled with principles and stipulations for us to observe if we want to stay on the right path. The entire course of your life can be altered by the renewal of your mind through God’s Word. The devil knows this and knows the Lord’s Word more than most Christians and that is why he fights so hard for us not to truly gain an understanding of its power.

He loves to keep believers of Jesus Christ bound by sickness and disease because of our lack of knowledge when it comes to spiritual warfare. Jesus Christ died on the cross at Calvary so that we could have to power to overcome all the devices of the enemy including ALL infirmity. Isaiah 53:4 details, “Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.”

The word “griefs” being used means “sickness”, the Lord Jesus Christ carried all of our sickness on His body when He died for us on the cross. Why would we then think that He would want us to live our lives bound to the sicknesses and diseases that He delivered us from? It doesn’t make any sense.

Now let’s take a closer look at the primary passage of Scripture that I am highlighting in the book of Joshua. The Lord is giving us a stipulation: in order for us to live a prosperous and successful life it is imperative that we meditate and incline our ears to God’s Word day and night. That goes for every part of our lives including our health.

I cannot tell you enough how important the Lord’s Word is when it comes to your health, your finances, your walk with Jesus Christ, how to fight the devil, the enemy’s devices, Knowing God, and anything and everything that you will ever need to live a victorious life. The unfortunate thing is a lot of Christians don’t take the time out to study to show themselves approved rightly diving God’s Truth, 2 Timothy 2:15.

You cannot depend on your pastor, your spouse, a family member, a friend, or anybody else to decipher God’s Word for you; you have to do it yourself. I recommend downloading the Blue Letter Bible App; it breaks down the root words and their meanings giving you a more accurate definition of what God is telling you in His Word. Make it a point to sharpen your Sword daily!

Conclusion

The first tip that I want to share with you regarding walking in good health is inclining your ears to God’s Word. It has to do with being a doer of the Lord’s rules and stipulations and not just a hearer. When you hear what God is saying through His Word, but you disregard it completely that is when you will find yourself open to attacks from the enemy: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

The Lord wants nothing more than for His children to live an abundant life here on Earth, John 10:10. The thing is we are facing a very powerful adversary that wants to steal, kill, and destroy our lives any way that he can. Gaining a revelation of what the Scriptures are disclosing to us gives us an upper hand when it comes to warfare because we will know how to fight back. Don’t allow sickness and disease to have a place in your life, you speak the Word of God to your body until it obeys!
