Tips for walking in Good Health-Walk by Faith and not by Sight!

Walk by faith

What does it mean to walk by faith and not by sight?

Before we can gain an understanding of how to walk by faith we need to know what it is. Hebrews 11:1 states “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The writer of Hebrews is revealing to us that faith is the confidence of knowing that you will receive what you are hoping for even though you can’t see it yet. You know that God’s Word reveals that it is possible and so you are holding the Bible to the standard of absolute Truth with no doubt.

Now let’s take a closer look at this particular verse of Scripture. The word “faith” being used is the Greek word “pistis” which means: trust and holy fervor born of faith and joined with it. The words “the substance” are the Greek word hypostasis which means: confidence, firm trust, and assurance. The words “the evidence” being used is he Greek word elegchos which means: a proof that by which a thing is proved or tested.

So when we break this Scripture down we can conclude that the Lord is disclosing to us that faith is a holy commitment to God’s Word in such a way that you become joined with it. In other words it marinates in your heart and mind so deeply that it becomes a part of your everyday life. You develop such a confidence and assurance that the Lord’s promises are absolute because you have tried and tested them and His guarantees have been proven every time.

It is the type of Belief that is not movable or shakable. It is vital to have the kind of Faith that places its assurance and trust completely on the Lord Jesus Christ without doubt or unbelief. Regardless of whatever sickness or disease that you might be facing you have to KNOW that God has the remedy. You have to make the choice to believe without hesitancy that His Word is true and you stand on His promises irrespective of what your circumstance looks like.

The only way that you are going to be able to build the confidence and Faith that will eliminate all uncertainty is by studying and hearing the Word of God, Romans 10:17. Establishing your Faith is so detrimental to walking in good health because it gives you the confidence to know that the thing that you are hoping for i.e. your healing will come even though you can’t see it yet!

Your faith walk has to be a personal one built around a life of faith. A person can tell you of the many promises that have come to pass in their life but if you don’t experience them for yourself it will be hard for you to truly believe. The thing is that God is going to give you free will to make the decision if you believe He is exactly Who He says He is or not. Make no mistake about it; your unbelief will not nullify the Truth found in His Word.

Romans 3:3-4 depicts, “For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and may overcome when You are judged.” Paul through the leading of the Holy Spirit is making it extremely clear that a person’s unbelief doesn’t mean that God isn’t faithful. If He said it, He will do it, Numbers 23:19.

His Word is so potent and powerful that the Lord places it above even His own Name, Psalm 138:2. Often times when we face sickness or disease we immediately blame God for it. But we really need to ask ourselves: Did I truly stand on the Word of God regarding my situation? The Lord has given us every remedy for any situation that we will face in life found in His Word, but did I take the time to know what those remedies were?

Do I really know the promises of God so much so that they are engrained in our heart and mind? Walking by faith and not by sight is literally that; it is the ability to say I don’t care what it looks like around me there are no “what ifs” in my vocabulary because if God said it that means that He WILL do it. As soon as any doubt creeps into your mind, you have to shut it down with the Word of God.

I have another article that goes deeper into what walking by faith means: What does it mean to walk by faith and not by sight?

Let’s take a look at a powerful passage of Scripture found in 2 Corinthians.

2 Corinthians 5:7

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

The words “we walk” being used in this passage is the Greek word peripateō which means: to regulate one’s life, to conduct oneself. The word “faith” being used is the Greek word pistis which means: trust and holy fervor born of faith and joined with it. The word “sight” being used is the Greek word eidoswhich means: by sight, beholding.

So when we piece the meaning of these words together we can conclude that the Apostle Paul is letting us know that walking in faith means living your life regulating and conducting yourself joined with the Word of God no matter what things look like in front of you. It is easy to begin to doubt whether or not the Lord’s Word is True when circumstances say otherwise.

It is in those moments that the true test of your faith will be on display. What comes out of your mouth in the first 30 seconds of when you begin to feel sickness come over your body? Do you pull up Google on your phone and begin to do a self-diagnosis based on your symptoms; or do you begin to proclaim God’s promises until your body responds accordingly?

We can never forget that death and life is literally in the power of our tongues, Proverbs 18:21. The words that come out of our mouths can change the entire trajectory of the situation that you are facing including your health. Speaking life is speaking God’s Word into your circumstance and speaking death is speaking the devil’s lies that he is projecting into your mind.

The enemy is very crafty and he will use your vulnerable moments to plant seeds of doubt. It is in those instances that you absolutely have to keep your eyes on Jesus Christ. Hebrews 12:2 is very revealing, it states “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Jesus Christ is the Author (Predecessor in a matter) and the Finisher (the Perfecter, one who has in his own person raised faith to its perfection and so set before us the highest example of faith). So in other words Jesus was our Forerunner and example of what perfect faith is supposed to look like because His Faith was absolute.

When we don’t know what walking by faith and not by sight is supposed to look like, we can look to how Jesus Christ lived His life of faith on Earth. The best way that you can establish confidence and belief in the Lord is by reading His Word, applying it to your daily life, and watching how the Lord moves on your behalf. The greatest confirmation is your personal declaration.

The last thing I will say regarding walking by faith and not by sight is that you don’t want to focus on anything else but the Lord and what His Word has to say about your circumstance. The devil loves to use other people’s scenarios to make you develop doubt in your heart. A fellow Christian falls extremely sick and you think “man if it happened to that powerful woman or man of God it can definitely happen to me!”

Don’t let your mind go there because the bottom line is that you really don’t know that person’s heart, you don’t know their level of faith, and you don’t know if they are applying God’s Word to their circumstance. Only God truly knows what is going on with that person. Keep your eyes focused on the Lord Jesus Christ especially during the trials and tribulations of life.

Conclusion

One of the tips for walking in good health is to walk by faith and not by sight. It is making the choice to believe God’s Word at face value regardless of what your circumstance looks like. It’s standing on the Lord’s promises instead of the lies of the enemy. One of the most used weapons that the devil uses on us over and over again is sickness and disease in our bodies.

He knows that it is very difficult for a Christian to walk in their purpose for God’s Kingdom if they are bound by infirmity. We have authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19) but we need to have a clear understanding of what that actually means. That is why it is vital that we read God’s Word, digest it, and apply it to our daily lives.
