Weapons of Warfare-The Blood Of Jesus
In order to fully understand the weapons of warfare we need to first determine who we are warring against. The Apostle Paul lays it out perfectly in Ephesians 6:12 and it states, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Our battle is not against a person: your neighbor, your co-worker, your spouse, your children, a family member, and not even your enemy. The spiritual fight that we face daily is against the devil and his highly structured demonic kingdom. Their sole purpose is to make sure that they steal, kill, and destroy your life by any means necessary, John 10:10.
If you don’t believe that he exists, you’ve already lost the battle. Make no mistake about it; Satan is an extremely powerful adversary that you cannot defeat within your own power. The great news is because of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, he is a defeated foe. The Lord disarmed and triumphed over the devil and all evil spirits making a public spectacle of them openly, Colossians 2:14-15.
Jesus gave us His authority to overcome all power of the enemy Luke 10:19 reveals, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” We have to walk in the authority that Jesus Christ died for every one of us to have.
It is important that we are not ignorant of the enemy’s devices, 2 Corinthians 2:11. He will use every weapon that he has against you in the hopes that you will feel defeated, overcome, and hopeless. Remember, the enemy of our faith is doubt and unbelief. 1 John 5:4 gives us some vital information and it states, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”
Your faith in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross at Calvary is what is going to help you have victory over the devil, the world, and everything in it. Never underestimate the power of the blood of Jesus Christ. Just because it cannot be seen with the naked eye does not negate the fact that it is one of your greatest spiritual warfare weapons.
Remember, the armory that the Lord provides us with is not physical as 2 Corinthians 10:4 reveals, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” A lot of people make the mistake of fighting the devil with carnal weapons because they have no knowledge that there is even a spiritual realm let alone understand how to war against it!
You will not be able to fight a spiritual battle with physical weaponry, it will not work. Luckily the Lord has given us so many weapons of war that we can use to stand against the wiles of the devil. One of those warfare weapons is the blood of Jesus Christ. Let’s take a look at a passage of Scripture that gives us a more in depth revelation.
Revelation 12:11
Revelation 12:11
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”
Here we can see that John is giving us clear instructions from the Holy Spirit on how to overcome the devil and his kingdom. He mentions the word “overcame” which is the Greek word “nikaō” meaning: of Christians, that hold fast their faith even unto death against the power of their foes, and temptations and persecutions, is used of one who by Christian constancy and courage keeps himself unharmed and spotless from his adversary’s devices, solicitations, assaults: the devil.
Who is the “him” that John is referring to? He answers that question in the explanation of the word being used. The “him” he is mentioning is: any foe but more specifically the devil. Then he goes into even more detail when he describes two ways that we overcome the enemy: by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.
The word “blood” being used is the Greek word “haima” which means: the blood of Christ shed on the Cross. Then John explains “…by the word of their testimony…” or in other words we overcome the devil when we proclaim personally what the Word of God states the blood of Jesus has done for us even if it means that we lose our life doing so! Never be ashamed of your personal testimony. It is one of the ways that we can silence our enemy.
He is our accuser accusing the brethren day and night, Revelation 12:10. Jesus Crist is our advocate (1 John 2:1) and His blood speaks, professing greater things than Abel’s blood did. Hebrews 12:24-25 details, “To Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven.”
Here we can see that the Lord is pointing out the fact that now the blood of Jesus is speaking from a heavenly place. It is the very thing that cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 “…and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” The reason that this fact is so significant when it comes to using the blood of Jesus as a Warfare weapon is because the devil will try to accuse you of past sin, but if it is under the blood of Jesus then that sin is completely washed away.
Remember all sin is a doorway that the devil uses to gain legal access into your life to wreak havoc. If the blood of Jesus is pleading your case stating that you are deemed blameless because of the blood that was shed on Calvary then there is nothing any demon from hell can do. The blood of Jesus Christ signifies the price that was paid for all of humanity. It is a powerful weapon of war that we need to learn how to use!
Conclusion
Make no mistake about it whether you are a believer or a non-believer you are in a daily battle with a very powerful adversary. He runs a highly organized demonic kingdom that wants nothing more than to steal, kill, and destroy you by all means necessary, John 10:10.
Fortunately the Lord gave us several spiritual warfare weapons that we can use against the devil. One of those weapons is the blood of Jesus. It is a constant reminder to us of what our Lord Jesus Christ did on the cross at Calvary for the remission of our sins.
