Your Inheritance through Christ-Justification
What exactly does it mean when God states that we have an inheritance gifted to us when we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ? The perfect passages of Scripture that disclose exactly what the Lord means by inheritance are found in Romans 8:16-17. It states, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
So what these verses are telling us is that because of the atoning sacrificial work of Jesus Christ which was: His death, burial, and resurrection on the cross at Calvary we have been given an inheritance as co-heirs with Him. Jesus died the perfect Lamb of God completely paying the sin debt for the whole world. This would include past sins, present sin, and future sin.
Now when God looks at us, He doesn’t see our sin, He sees His Son Jesus and we are treated as if we never transgressed. The Lord’s amazing mercy and grace allows us to be declared righteous through the righteousness of Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:21. He wipes our slate clean and it is just as if it never happened.
Some of the words that describe how the Lord feels about our sin after we have been justified through the blood of Christ are:
He removes them as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12).
He blots your sins out and remembers them no more (Isaiah 43:25).
He washes your sins that resemble scarlet and makes them whiter than snow (Isaiah 1:18).
As we can see the Lord truly forgives us of our iniquities and completely forgets that we ever transgressed against Him. We have to be very careful not to take advantage of God’s grace. Just because He is faithful to forgive us of our transgressions does not mean that we are at full liberty to make a habit of sinning. We still have to remain obedient to the Word of God and His will for our lives.
The Apostle Paul addresses this very thing in Romans 6:1-2 and it states, “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” When you become a believer of Jesus Christ, your love for Him should make you want to live for Him which in turn requires that you turn away from your sin altogether.
To be justified also means that you are positioned in Christ Jesus declared to be in right standing according to the law of God. He is absolute love but He is also a just God and requires His children to remain obedient to His laws, principles, and will for our lives. His justice demands that there is penalty for all sin regardless of what it is. We need to keep in mind that the power of the blood of Jesus Christ declares us blameless but not sinless.
The Word of God in Romans 3:23 states, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” We are all sinners serving a perfect God but that does not mean that we don’t have the ability to overcome our temptation to sin. Through the power of the precious blood of Christ we are no longer slaves to our transgressions, Romans 6:6.
Justification is also a special gift that we are given included in our inheritance because of what Jesus did on the Cross at Calvary along with the fact that we also receive eternal life. Titus 3:7 details, “That having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Our sins are completely wiped clean just as if they never happened to begin with.
I am going to highlight a Scripture that you can meditate on that will give you an idea about what it means to be justified by the power of the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:9
“Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”
As we dive into this passage of Scripture we can conclude that the blood of Jesus Christ is sufficient enough to prevent us from facing the wrath of the living God. Because of the blood of His son Jesus Christ, all believers are in right standing with God and that justification will protect us from facing the wrath that is to come: the wrath of the devil during the tribulation period (Revelation 12:12) and the wrath of God on the children of disobedience (Hebrews 12:29), (Colossians 3:6).
Had it not been for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we would all be completely separated from God eternally on our way to hell fire. We would not have a chance at eternal life, salvation, or redemption. Romans 5:8 reveals the Lord’s love for us when it states, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
What Christ had to go through for all of humanity can only be summed up in one word, love. We still don’t deserve the Lord’s amazing mercy and grace but He loved us so much that He was willing to shed the innocent blood of His Son for the entirety of the world. If you think about all the sin that you have committed, the sin that you continue to commit, and the sin that you will commit it is unfathomable how He is able to forgive and truly forget every one of them, but He does.
Jesus’ sacrifice has given us so many amazing benefits including justification which is a part of our inheritance. It is our responsibility to spread the “good news” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every person that will listen. They deserve the opportunity to obtain salvation and receive all of the benefits and blessings that come with being a believer of Jesus Christ including justification.
The enemy does not want you to share God’ Truth. That is why it is so important that we know who we are in the Lord and be bold standing confidently knowing that we are completely justified because of the power of the blood of Jesus. Declare God’s Word over your life so when the devil tries to give you a guilty conscience making you think that your sins have not been forgiven and that you are not in right standing in God’s eyes, you can say “it is written…”
Satan will try to make you think that God is mad at you or He doesn’t love you, or that you can’t be used by God, the devil is a liar! Unfortunately a lot of Christians allow the devil to plant seeds of doubt in their minds because they don’t have enough arsenals (the Word of God) to fight him back!
Conclusion:
The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ have afforded us so many benefits and blessings as believers. One of those gifts is justification or in other words just as we never did it. Jesus’ death on the cross at Calvary wiped away the handwriting of requirements that was against us or to put it a different way, the sins that were pinned against us. Those sins were nailed to the cross as Jesus paid our penalty in full.
This does not mean that we have the right to live in habitual sin with no regard of God’s Word or the Guidelines found in the Bible. That is a quick way to get yourself in trouble and open the doors to the enemy to wreak havoc in your life legally!
