Your Inheritance through Christ-One in Christ
The death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ are what have afforded us so many amazing gifts including the ability to be one in Christ. One thing that we need to understand is that God does not discriminate or show partiality to His children. Whether you are Jew or gentile believers, regardless of our social status (poor or rich), regardless of any ethnic differences the Lord sees us all the same.
The New Testament Scriptures in Acts 10:34-35 out of the Holy Bible details, “Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” Another example is found in Romans 2:11 as the Apostle Paul dictates, “For there is no partiality with God.”
What we can determine through these passages of Scripture is the fact that the Lord does not discriminate when it comes to the body of Christ. God’s Word and the promises of God are for us all whether we are poor or rich, Jew or Gentile, and regardless of what social distinctions or ethnic background that we are. He loves us all the same.
That is why it is so important that we share the good news of the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone that is around irrespective of what they look like. That person’s soul matters to God the same whether it is an owner of a multi-billion dollar company or a homeless person on the street. Every single person is a soul that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save.
We must never forget is the fact that we could actually be entertaining angels unaware. Hebrews 13:2 reveals, “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” You never know when the Lord could be testing you by sending an angel your direction disguised as a homeless person to see if you will treat them the same way as you would a rich person.
God is very clear about how He feels regarding us helping those in need including: a widow, fatherless, and people that don’t have enough to live on. What better way to give someone hope than to share with them God’s ultimate plan for their life which is the free gift of salvation and being one in Christ.
Now let’s take a look at the verse of Scripture that exposes the fact that we are all considered one in Christ found in the book of Galatians.
Galatians 3:28
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Looking at Paul’s statement regarding us being one in Christ we can clearly see that the Lord is not showing any prejudice because we are considered daughters and sons of God. This is part of our inheritance for those that are born again believers of Jesus Christ and are also heirs of the promises of God.
Once you become a new creation in Christ old things have passed away and everything becomes brand new, 2 Corinthians 5:17. The Lord is not concerned with what you look like on the outside but He is concerned with the condition of your heart, 1 Samuel 16:7. When He looks at a Christian, He doesn’t see you but He sees His Son Jesus Christ in you.
The word “one” being used in the passage is the Greek word “heis” which means: absolutely, those that adhere to Christ make one person. In other words it is a person that follows the Lord and obeys His commands that are one in Him. Just because you say that you are Christian does not mean that you truly have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
He is definitive when it comes to who are truly born again believers. Below are some examples of verses of Scripture that you can reference when you are not sure if you are one in Christ.
John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
Luke 6:46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?”
James 1:22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
1 Peter 1:14-16 “as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
1 Peter 2:21 “For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.”
1 John 5:2 “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.”
These are some examples of passages of Scripture out of the Word of God that give us an idea if we are living our lives submitted to Jesus Christ. Remember whether you are a Jew or Gentile, male or female, free or a slave, rich or poor, and regardless of your economic class or race the requirements to be one in Christ are all the same; it is those that follow Him and are obedient to His commandments.
Conclusion
The shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary has afforded us so many amazing gifts as believers of Jesus Christ including the opportunity to be one in Him. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what you look like on the outside, the Lord is interested in your heart.
That is why it is so important that we follow Jesus and obey His commandments. The only way that you are going to know the rules and stipulations that the Lord has outlined for us is if we read His Word. It is vital that we read the Bible, study it, digest it, and apply it to our daily lives. If you truly love Him and want to ensure that you are one in Him, you must keep and obey His guidelines on how to live an obedient life.
