Positive Quote for the Week: Pride Ensures Your Destruction
“Pride is the quickest way for you to receive your downfall!” Erica Willis
Throughout the entire Word of God we can see evidence of how much the Lord despises pride. In fact that was what caused Satan to disobey and rebel against God because he wanted to be worshipped like God was. This characteristic is sure to bring forth your destruction. Proverbs 16:18 declares, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
The Lord is extremely clear in this passage of Scripture that pride and arrogance will lead to your downfall. God loves a humble person because that person knows that they can do nothing without the help of the Lord and can be used mightily by God to share the Gospel in an unpretentious way.
What exactly does the Lord mean when He mentions pride? He is referencing conceit, arrogance, big headedness, being stuck on yourself, etc. He is not referring to the kind of pride that a father would have for their child after something that they have accomplished. This is a healthy emotion for us to have. Egotism on the other hand can get us into a lot of trouble.
Pride will most definitely block your blessings. It makes you puffed up to the point where you feel like you can do it all yourself when the fact is that none of us can. As Christians we are up against a powerful adversary that is coming straight for your jugular. Without the power of God we are not going to stand a chance to overcome his tactics. That is why we need to approach every aspect of our lives with the spirit of humility.
Scriptures on humility
Ephesians 4:2 “With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love.”
James 4:10 “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Luke 14:11 “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.”
