Build your Faith-Praying God’s Word

When it comes to having faith one thing that we know for sure is the fact that it is impossible to please the Lord without it, Hebrews 11:6. What exactly is Faith? Hebrews 11:1 describes it perfectly when it states, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” In this passage of Scripture we can see that the writer of Hebrews is letting us know that faith is the substance (assurance and trust) for things that we hope for before they even happen.

It is not pertaining to just anything that you are hoping for because we know that there is such a thing as praying amiss, James 4:3. The Lord honors your prayers when His will and His Word is attached to them. The Word of God is saturated with promises and guarantees that He promises His children. He means every bit of what He says in the Bible and even puts His Word above His own Name, Psalm 138:2.

What is one of the best ways to activate your faith? The Apostle Paul gives us some very key information found in Romans 10:17 and it states, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” There are several ways that we can hear a Word from God: a Bible verse can be highlighted to you directly, a Pastor can deliver a sermon with a message that resonates in your spirit, or someone can give you a message directly from the Lord.

God can speak to us in so many ways but the primary way that He talks to us is through His Word. That is why it is vital that every believer of the Lord Jesus Christ meditate on the Bible day and night, Joshua 1:8. It is the knowledge of God and the will of God for our lives. Praying God’s Word will develop your faith because you will begin to see that your prayers have been heard.

1 John 5:14 details, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” This verse of Scripture written by John with the leading of the Holy Spirit reveals to us that God can hear our prayers when they are according to His will. How does a person know God’s will for their lives? It is all found in His Word.

Your daily prayer life should incorporate God’s promises that He has given to every one of His children. He wants us to bring to His remembrance the things that He has said to us, Isaiah 43:26. Your walk of faith will grow to unbelievable levels if you take the Bible at face value. Believe that the Word of the Lord is the absolute truth because it is.

One thing that we can never forget is the fact that we are in a spiritual battle with a very powerful adversary. He wants to ensure that he establishes common strongholds, spiritual strongholds, mental strongholds, strongholds of bitterness, emotional strongholds, and sexual strongholds, etc. in your life. His main goal is to kill, steal, and destroy you by any means necessary, John 10:10.

There is a reason that the Lord has provided us with the full armor of God so that we can stand against the snares of the devil, Ephesians 6:14-18. There are two pieces of Armor that I want to highlight; the first one is the Shield of Faith. Praying God’s Word will help ensure that you consistently have your Shield ready for battle.

So when the enemy tries to come at you with his fiery arrows, your Shield of Faith will prevent those darts from landing. How do Scripture prayers help strengthen your shield? When you speak out God’s Word, His truth comes against the lies of the enemy. That is why it is imperative that you pull down every thought that is contrary to the Holy Scriptures in the Old and New Testament, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.

For instance:

The devil is shooting negative things in your mind telling you that you are worthless and nobody cares about you. God’s Word says in Psalm 139:14 “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”

As you begin to proclaim and pray specific Scriptures they have the power to quench the fiery darts of the wicked one. The more of God’s Word that you have in your heart and mind the more your faith will naturally become established. You will begin to see the Scriptures coming alive in a powerful way and you will not be able to deny it.

The second piece of Armor that I want to highlight is the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, Ephesians 6:17. One thing is clear that the Lord’s Word is a two-edged Sword. Hebrews 4:12 reveals, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

The Bible is not like any other book, not even close. Every word in every page was given by the inspiration of God, 2 Timothy 3:16. The Lord will give you an on time word for specific issues and that Word can be delivered in many different ways: a sermon that your pastor is preaching, a word given to you by another person directly from God, but the Lord primarily speaks through His Word.

I cannot tell you how important it is to build your Scriptural memory bank that the Holy Spirit can pull from. When the enemy comes against you the Spirit of God will bring the Lord’s Word to your remembrance, John 14:26. I know there have been times in my life that I was getting a direct attack from the devil and the Lord would bring an on time Scripture to counterattack.

I have articles that break down the Armor of God that will help you know what each piece is: The Armor of God-The Breastplate of Righteousness, The Armor of God-The Belt of Truth, The Armor of God-The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace, The Armor of God-The Shield of Faith, The Armor of God-The Helmet of Salvation, and The Armor of God-The Sword of the Spirit

One of the best ways that you can establish the Scriptures in your heart and mind is by having your own personal Bible study. This will help you truly understand the meaning of the verses of Scripture, establish your walk of faith, learn how to battle, and live your life the Biblical way which is the will of God.

There is so much power in you developing a prayer time in your own life and not just when you are at church. Keep a prayer journal and incorporate the Word of God pertaining to specific situations. Pray for yourself, pray for your spouse, children, and all family members that you feel led to pray for. Watch God show up and show out!

Conclusion

One of the most important things that we can do in our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ is building up our faith. We know from Scripture that it is impossible to please Him without it. One of the best ways that we can develop our faith in God is by reading His Word. As they begin to saturate our hearts and minds, the Holy Spirit will bring them to your remembrance in your time of need.

God’s Word is extremely powerful having the ability to strengthen you in your time of weakness, give you weaponry against the snares of the devil, remind you of God’s promises, and so much more. The unfortunate thing is that a lot of Christians do not take the time to read and study the Bible. What ends up happening is they become victims at the hand of the enemy when the trials and tribulations hit, don’t let that be you!
