God’s Healing Power

Gods healing power

Jehovah Rapha

In order for us to have a clear understanding of the healing power of the Lord we need to go to the Word of God where Jehovah Rapha (the Lord our Healer) is first mentioned.

Exodus 15:26 details, “ and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

There is so much to unpack in this passage of Scripture out of the Old Testament. The Israelites had been traveling three days and there was no water in sight. They cried out to Moses who was the one that would intercede on their behalf complaining that they could not find any water. Moses cried out to the Lord and God showed him what he was to do in order for them to change the bitter water into sweet water. Which he did and they were able to drink.

The key point to highlight out of this incident is that God’s power had the ability to turn the bitter water into sweet water. What He was showing them was that He was with them and was consistently providing for them even in the wilderness.

The same is the case for us when we are in our own wilderness faced with sickness and disease that is threatening to take us out. God’s divine healing, spiritual healing, physical healing, and emotional healing is without limits. Even in the darkest valley where death is knocking at your door: God’s promises paired with the Power of the Holy Spirit, and Jesus’ Name have the ability to heal your body.

As we take a closer look at the passage of Scripture up above we can see that the words “Who heals you” being used is the Hebrew word rāp̄ā’ or rapha” meaning: healer, to heal, make healthful. God is the One that heals you from everything and anything that you could possibly be facing. The question is do we truly believe in our hearts that He is Who He says He is?

The fact of the matter is that we are living in a fallen world because of the transgression committed by Adam and Eve at the Garden of Eden. That is what allowed sickness and disease to be introduced to the World. God made it clear to us in Genesis 6:3 “And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”

Before the Lord declared this promise, man lived to be hundreds of years old as the oldest man in the Bible (Methuselah) was 929 when he died, Genesis 5:27. Our bodies are now susceptible to sickness and disease but God always provides His children with everything that we need and it is all found in His Word.

There are often stipulations and regulations to the Lord’s promises found in several Bible verses of Scripture. The thing is we overlook a lot of what we need to do on our end to ensure that the Lord’s assurances are fully activated. It is our responsibility as believers of Jesus Christ to study to show ourselves approved with the ability to RIGHTLY divide God’s Word, 2 Timothy 2:15.

For instance, in the verse of Scripture that I am highlighting above God makes is plain to us when He states a definitive stipulation, “…If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians…” In order for the disease that He is mentioning to be avoided the requirement was that they were to obey the voice of God and keep His statutes.

Frequently in the Scriptures the Lord mentions the word “if” that is a very specific word that we need to play extra attention to. God will heal every sickness and diseases but there are a lot of “ifs” attached to this promise. I cannot tell you how vital it is to dissect the Word of God for yourself so that you can have a clear understanding of what God is saying.

Make no mistake about it, we are fighting a very powerful adversary that wants nothing more than to steal, kill, and destroy, John 10:10. He stops at nothing to ensure that God’s people are not operating at their full potential. He loves to attack our physical body with all types of health problems because that is one of the quickest ways to take us out. Sick people do not function at 100 percent let alone have enough strength to pray during those tough times.

That is why the Word of God is so imperative when it comes to preventative measures pertaining to your health and the healing process should you find yourself fighting sickness and various diseases. The Bible is a literal Sword with so much great power but regrettably it is often underestimated. It has the ability to extinguish all of the wicked ways that the devil tries to attack Christians.

God went to great extents so that every one of us could experience complete healing in our physical bodies which in turn enables us to live a long life. God’s love for us is absolute; He gave His Only Son Whom died on the Cross at Calvary so that we can experience complete Salvation, Matthew 27:45-54.

When you accept the free gift of Salvation so many things are afforded to every believer: full health, healing, deliverance, protection, and provision. I have many articles that disclose what the finished work of Jesus Christ at the Cross did for us: The Importance of Reading Your Bible-Reveals Jesus Christ, There is Power in the Blood of Jesus-Justification and Sanctification, and There is Power in the Blood of Jesus-Redemption and Cleansing.

Healing Power of Jesus

In order to have a full understanding of the healing power of Jesus Christ, let’s take a look at the passage of Scripture that gave us the power to overcome sickness and disease. Colossians 2:14-15 reveals, “having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

In other words the accusations that were against us were completely taken away because Jesus Christ paid for the entire sin debt on our behalf. It didn’t stop there, He also disarmed (despoil, disarm, strip off) the devil, every evil force, every unclean spirit and principality attached to his kingdom. Jesus Christ took away the power that sickness and disease had over us, but He did not remove the presence of it.

That is why you still see people living in unhealthy conditions because they aren’t fully grasping the Gospel of the Kingdom at face value. God’s gracious Words are so powerful that they have the ability heal the sick, cleanse the Leper, cast out demons, and raise the dead, Matthew 10:8. The problem is that we don’t truly grasp the fact that the same Spirit (Holy Spirit) that raised Jesus from the dead lives on the inside of us, Romans 8:11.

The Holy Spirit is the power of the Lord that gives us the strength, knowledge, and direction when it comes to our healing, Luke 4:18. He is the One that will bring Scriptures from God’s Word to your remembrance in difficult situations when you feel like there is no cure in sight, John 14:26!

Let’s take a look at a passage of Scripture that discloses the fact that we can receive divine health.

Isaiah 53:5

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

Jesus Christ is the Word of God made flesh that came and dwelt among us, John 1:1 and John 1:14. He is the literal Gospel of the Kingdom of God and He is all that you need to succeed and obtain victory over every tactic and lie of the devil. The Lord wants us to have a life of good health and a life of abundance in every aspect of that word, John 10:10.

We can see that revealed in this passage of Scripture out of the book of Isaiah. Notice that God uses the word “are” healed, He didn’t say could be healed or might be healed but He said “are” healed. That means that it is already done and we don’t have to question it or think twice about it. It boils down to: either we believe Him or we don’t. It is so important that we walk in the Blessings that Jesus Christ died for every one of us to have.

When sickness comes upon your body what is the first thing that comes out of your mouth? Do you proclaim the Word of God over your mind and body or do you immediately start trying to diagnose your symptoms. I know that we all have done it and I am guilty of it. Once I gained the revelation of the power of God’s Word, I speak the Scriptures over every symptom that I am feeling down to even having a headache!

We often forget that part of Jesus’ ministry was healing the sick. God gave us His Word so that we could use its power on others. The good news of the Kingdom encompasses so many promises that we need to learn to boldly stand on. If there is a sick person that you know that needs healing, lay your hands on them and declare their healing in the Name of Jesus.

One Scripture that I want to point out pertaining to healing others is Mark 16:18 it is very telling when Jesus states, “they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” The Lord uses the words “will recover” He didn’t say might or possibly but He makes it clear by saying “will” recover. We need to take what He said at face value and by faith believe that they are already healed.

Another passage of Scripture that I want to point out is 1 Peter 2:24 that declares, “who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” Here we can see that Peter is making the statement that “you were healed” meaning that it is already done. Jesus Christ paid the entire price for us to have divine health.

He made it clear on the cross at Calvary right before He took His last breath when He stated “it is finished”, John 19:30. He already did His part by disarming the devil and the great power that he had over us. Now it is our turn to stand on all of the assurances given to believers of Jesus Christ which are all found in the Word of God.

The unfortunate part is that a lot of Christians never take the time to read their Bibles, study it, dissect it, and apply it to their daily lives. They rely on what they are fed by their Pastor on a Sunday afternoon. God is definitive when He states that we are to study to show our selves approved, 2 Timothy 2:15. We don’t spend time with the Lord or His Word so what ends up happening is we perish because of a lack of knowledge, Hosea 4:6.

One of the most powerful Psalms that includes some of my favorite verses of Scripture is found in Psalm 91. It is the Lord’s Prayer for Protection that He promises to give every one of us. Let it marinate in your heart so much so that it literally becomes a part of your frame of mind. God wants us ready in and out of season, 2 Timothy 4:2.

Conclusion

One of the Names of God is Jehovah Rapha (the Lord our Healer) and He is just that, our Healer. Often times we forget that we serve the Almighty God and creator of the entire World. We can never limit what we can do through the Power of the Lord. He makes it clear to us when He discloses in Philippians 4:13 when Paul declares, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

The words the Apostle Paul uses are “all things” not some things but all things. So as long as we take what God is saying to us and apply it to our lives with absolute faith there is nothing impossible for you. That includes being healed from everything and anything that is afflicting your body in any way. Believe it so that you can receive it!
