Positive Quote for the Week: Don’t Allow Your Unforgiveness to turn Into Hatred

“When you refuse to forgive, you are opening up the door for the enemy to come in and plant seeds of bitterness and hate!” Erica Willis

Whether we want to realize it or not, harboring unforgiveness in our hearts almost always invites the emotion of hatred, bitterness, animosity, and resentment. Those are not emotions that you want to allow to take residence in your spirit. The enemy is very strategic and will plant seeds of negativity in the hopes that they will sprout and grow.

When you refuse to forgive, it begins to affect all aspects of your life including relationships with the people that you care about the most. The Lord warns us over and over again throughout the entirety of the Word of God about how detrimental these adverse emotions truly are. Ephesians 4:26-27 details, “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.”

The Apostle Paul through the leading of the Holy Spirit is revealing to us that you should not allow yourself to be so filled with anger that it begins to turn into wrath. Then he goes even deeper stating that your wrath will actually give a place (opportunity) to the devil. In other words the enemy will take your distaste for a person and turn it into full blown rage.

We have to learn how to let go of the things that are going to affect our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. How can you be a witness for Him if you have all of these adverse emotions that you are exhibiting? He is love (1 John 4:16) and if we are His representation here on Earth we must show love too, all day, every day. The Lord calls it the bond of perfection, Colossians 3:14.

Scriptures about showing love:

1 John 4:8 “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

John 15:12 “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”

Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

Ephesians 4:2 “With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love.”
