Psalm 91-God’s Protective Prayer-Part 8

Psalm 91 is undoubtedly one of the most powerful warfare chapters in the entire Word of God. It is God’s Protective Prayer that shields us from any adversity, storm, trial, and tribulation that you will ever face.

So far we have broken down the Lord’s stipulations attached to the amazing promises found in Psalm 91 and those are disclosed in Psalm 91:1. The Lord lets us know that those that dwell in the secret place of the Most High shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty. What this means is that God wants to develop an intimate relationship with every one of us. This is how we are able to be so connected to Him that we become as if we are a part of His shadow.

Then the Psalmist goes into detail regarding some of the Lord’s guarantees that He gives us in this powerful chapter. Psalm 91:3 discloses the Lord’s protection against the snare of the fowler and the perilous pestilence. Psalm 91:5-6 reveals to us God’s shelter from the terror by night, the arrow by day, and destruction. Psalm 91:10 details protection from any evil or plague that is affecting those around you.

The Lord goes even deeper with His level of protection disclosed in Psalm 91:11-12 when He reveals that He commands His angels to watch over us. One of the main reasons that Psalm 91 is such a Powerful chapter is because it provides us with security from all calamity or destruction that could ever occur in your life.

If you haven’t read all of the articles before this one, please take the time to do so. I will list them here: Psalm 91-God’s Protective Prayer-Part 1Psalm 91-God’s Protective Prayer-Part 2Psalm 91-God’s Protective Prayer-Part 3, Psalm 91-God’s Protective Prayer-Part 4Psalm 91-God’s Protective Prayer-Part 5, Psalm 91-God’s Protective Prayer-Part 6, and Psalm 91-God’s Protective Prayer-Prayer 7.

Now let’s take a look at the last two passages of Scripture found in Psalm 91.

Psalm 91:15

“He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.”

This particular part of the Psalm is a continuation of the Lord speaking to us on a personal level. One of the main things to point out in this passage of Scripture is the words “I will.” These are God’s assurances to us that He will come through with the things that He is promising us in this verse. It is really up to us whether or not we take the Lord’s Word at face value.

Two passages of Scripture that give us an idea of how seriously the Lord takes His Word are:

Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” The Lord makes it clear that if He said it in His Word, He will do it. The problem that a lot of us encounter is that our faith crumbles when we are hit with trials and tribulations.

Psalm 138:2 “I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.” Here we can see clearly that the Lord places his Word even above His own name.

God’s Word is so powerful that it is literally called a double-edged Sword, Hebrews 4:12. It is imperative that we get the Lord’s promises deep down in our heart and mind so much so that they become a part of the way that we think. That way when adversity hits you can stand firm on the guarantees that the Lord has given us.

Now let’s take a closer look at the passage of Scripture that I am highlighting Psalm 91:15. The words “He shall call upon Me” being used here is the Hebrew word qārā’ which means: to call unto, cry for help, call with the name of God. The words “and I will answer him” being used is the Hebrew word ʿānâ which means: to answer and to respond.

What we can determine from the first part of this verse of Scripture is that the Lord is revealing to us that when we cry out for help in our time of need, He will answer. Again the key words are “I will” because it is God’s guarantee that He “will” come through on His promises. In this case it’s the assurance that He “will” respond to us when we call His Name.

As we analyze the second half of this particular verse we can see a repeat of the words “I will” being used throughout. The Lord is making a statement that we can trust Him, we can believe the words that He says, and we can stand firm on His assurances. God declares that He “will” be with us when trouble comes our way.

The words “in trouble” being used is the Hebrew word ṣārâ which means: straits, distress, and trouble. The words “I will deliver him” being used is the Hebrew word ḥālaṣ which means: to rescue, deliver, set free. The words “and honor him” being used here is the Hebrew word kāḇaḏ which means: make honorable, honor. These declarations leave us with absolutely no question in our mind on whether or not He will show up when we call on His name.

This is why He is showing us the same words “I will” so many times just in this one verse of Scripture alone. When life is crumbling around you and you feel like there is nothing you can do, God is saying to you: call on Me and “I will” rescue you from trouble, distress, calamity, and destruction.

John 8:58 makes it clear when it states, “Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” The Lord is making it known that He Is all that you will ever need in any situation! This goes hand and hand with the words “I will.” He is saying that He will be anything that you need Him to be just call on Him and He will answer you!

The last word that I want to highlight out of this passage is the word “honor” or promote. He will honor or promote you when others count you out, when nobody else can see your potential, or when you don’t even believe in yourself. He will promote you to your next level right in front of your enemies!

When you have an intimate and personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, you will know His Name. The time that you spend with Him in your secret place will determine how connected to Him you truly are. John 10:27 is very telling when the Lord states, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” You want to be able to determine His voice when He calls you so that He can lead you in the right direction!

Now let’s take a closer look at the very last passage of Scripture found in Psalm 91.

Psalm 91:16

“With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”

This final verse of Scripture out of Psalm 91 completes the Lord’s personal message to all of His children. When you are truly born again and know the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior you will want to live a life that is pleasing to Him. This includes abiding by and following His stipulations that He has laid out for us in His Word.

The moment that you become a believer of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes and lives in your heart. He is your guide and the One that will lead you into all truth, John 16:13. The more of God’s Truth that you have stored in your heart and mind the more that the Holy Spirit has to bring to your remembrance to help lead you in the right direction.

When you follow God’s Biblical Laws, you are guaranteed a long life and a life in abundance, John 10:10. We can see the Lord disclosing this promise in this particular verse, the words “with long” being used here is the Hebrew word ‘ōreḵ which means: length of time pertaining to your life. The words “I will satisfy him” being used here is the Hebrew word śāḇaʿwhich means: to be satisfied, satisfied with material blessings.

The words “and show him” being used here is the Hebrew word rā’â which means: to cause to gaze at with joy. The words “My salvation” being used is the Hebrew word yᵊšûʿâ which means: salvation by God from external evils, deliverance, welfare, prosperity, victory.

What we can determine from this powerful passage of Scripture is the fact that the Lord is guaranteeing those that are truly abiding in Him that they will live a fully satisfied long life. He also promises to show us what true salvation means: a prosperous and victorious life free from all external evils. What amazing promises that the Lord has given to those that KNOW His Name!

Conclusion

Psalm 91 is one of the most powerful warfare chapters in the entire Word of God. It covers all calamities, destruction, snares of the devil, evil arrows being thrown, sickness, plague, disease, and the list goes on!
