Spiritual Warfare Scriptures: Facing Life’s Battles-Part 3
Is Spiritual Warfare Still for Today?
Whether you are a believer or a non-believer, you are in the middle of the spiritual battle against two kingdoms: the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light. There is a battle for your soul. The Lord wants so much to have an intimate relationship with every single one of us, and on the contrary the devil wants nothing more than to destroy every one of us in the hopes that we will join him in the lake of fire. We all have free will to make the decision whether we want to war for God in His Christian army or if we want to remain blinded by the enemy living for him even if it’s by default.
One of the biggest lies of the devil is that he doesn’t exist and so we don’t take his presence seriously which leads to open doorways. Before you know it, you’re bound mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically and you want to medicate a symptom that is caused by the enemy. The fact of the matter is we need to arm, protect, and guard ourselves even more today against the spiritual forces of evil. The devil is out in the open; he is no longer hiding and is in your face.
To give us an indication of how much the devil is running rampant in the world right now; all we have to do is look at what’s going on in our schools, on TV, all over the internet, and even in our children’s shows. This spiritual battle is real and the enemy does not play fair. He is after our children and that is why it is critical that we learn how to put on the full armor of God and remain equipped against the devil’s schemes!
We cannot let Satan take advantage of us because we remain ignorant of his devices, 2 Corinthians 2:11. We have to get into the Word of God, pray, fast, and increase our time with the Holy Spirit so that we can learn how to defend ourselves from the flaming darts, spiritual attacks, and strong holds that the enemy uses against us.
I became a victim to the powers of darkness and the wiles of the devil because of my lack of knowledge. I opened up so many demonic doors that I could not easily shut. The result of my actions caused me to remain demonically oppressed mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually for many years. Had I known about the spiritual realm and Satan’s wicked plots to destroy me, I would have never allowed the enemy to wreak havoc in my life.
That is why I am making it my mission to try to pass on the knowledge that I have learned over the years regarding spiritual warfare and how the devil and his demons operate. I am listing some spiritual warfare Scriptures that you can mediate on and study to help you gain the knowledge you need to get free and remain free from the hand of our true enemy, the devil!
John 8:31-32
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
These powerful verses of scripture are extremely informative. Jesus is speaking to those that believed in Him and the Words that He was speaking. Not only that, these true disciples were taking heed to every Word and obeying His instructions.
Jesus goes on to say, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” What is the truth that He is talking about? The truth that Christ is speaking about in this verse is the Word of God. It is the Greek word Aletheia which is the same word used in John 17:17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”
God’s Word is extremely powerful. In fact so powerful that God puts His Word even above His own name, Psalm 138:2. There are spiritual laws embedded throughout all of Scripture that everyone must obey. Just like when the natural laws of the land are disobeyed, if the laws of God are broken there are penalties and repercussions.
That is why there is a consistent reiteration of the importance of the Word of God. In this case, the Lord is explaining to us that knowing the Truth is what will make us free. Free from the spiritual attacks, wicked plots, and wiles of the devil. We have to get into our Bible, study to show ourselves approved which will help us rightly divide the Truth, 2 Timothy 2:15, so that we can have a clear understanding of the instructions that God is giving us.
We need to know what the whole armor of God is: belt of Truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes prepared with the Gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit. We need to understand how to use every piece of armor effectively which will prevent any cracks for the devil to make his way in.
We have the blueprint to freedom but it is really up to us whether or not we choose to follow it. Being bound by the enemy is the last place that you ever want to be. He doesn’t give up easily, but if we gain an understanding of the undiluted knowledge of God it will make us free and we can stay free!
Revelation 12:11
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”
This particular verse of scripture is based on the second half of the great tribulation when the devil is permanently cast out of heaven. He will be extremely angry knowing that he only has a short time left to achieve his goal (Revelation 12:12), which is taking as many people as he can with him to the lake of fire. The Christians that are going to go through this tribulation period are given the promise that they would overcome the power of the enemy by: their faith in Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross, their testimonies, and remaining true to God’s Word even if they have to die.
How this verse of Scripture aids in our spiritual warfare today is almost the same type of concept. We overcome the evil powers of this dark world by our Faith in Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross, the Word of God which is our double-edged Sword, and the word of our testimony. The enemy cannot stand for his devices to be visible but the Lord is very definitive about us having no fellowship with darkness but rather exposing them, Ephesians 5:11.
There is so much power in every one of our testimonies because it shows others that even though the enemy used every strong hold to keep you bound, you still overcame. It gives other people hope that Jesus Christ is still the same yesterday, today, and forever more, Hebrews 13:8. No matter how far gone you are or what spiritual battle you are facing you can make it through!
That is why I use any chance I can get to tell people what I went through and to share things that I have learned along the years so that they can get set free. I was there and I had to fight powerful forces of evil that were completely invisible. Through God’s mercy and amazing grace I was able to break free to live today to tell my testimony. A lot of people are ashamed to share what they went through and how they were able to become victorious. That is nothing but the enemy trying to silence you, do not give him that satisfaction!
2 Corinthians 11:13-14
“For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”
The Apostle Paul through the Holy Spirit wrote 2 Corinthians to the church of Corinth. At the time that this letter was written, they were allowing false teachers and dishonest preachers preach to them about another Jesus other than Christ Jesus, the Son of the living God, 2 Corinthians 11:4. The enemy will take the Word of God and pollute or dilute it so that it loses its power. The undiluted bible verses are what you are going to need to understand the authentic Truth of God’s Words. The Lord lets us know in Galatians 5:9, “A little leaven leavens the whole lump.” Meaning that it just takes a very little bit of the changing of the Lord’s Words for it to contaminate the whole thing.
Paul is explaining this fact to the church bringing to their attention that the devil himself hides as an angel of light. He will not hesitate to use evil men and women seemingly of God to do the same. The Lord calls this false teaching doctrines of devils, 1 Timothy 4:1, because they are created by seducing and enticing spirits that the devil uses to sway Christians in the wrong direction when it comes to the Word of God.
One of the most powerful weapons that the enemy likes to use is camouflaging himself as something that is positive or good. Before you know it he has you in a trap that you cannot easily get out of! I learned this lesson the hard way; I got myself involved with reiki meditation which was suggested to me by someone that I knew that painted it out to be something positive.
This mediation led to me opening up my chakras’ which is what some people call the spiritual power of your body. The truth is that I was opening up myself to demonic powers of darkness that I was giving the legal right to wreak havoc on my body. That is exactly what they did! I didn’t have the True knowledge of the Word of God or people in my life that knew about the spiritual realm or what spiritual warfare was.
I was under full on spiritual attack that led to me to enduring all kinds of suffering at the hand of the enemy all because I got myself involved in something that seemed positive and innocent. That is how he comes to you as an angel of light, but you will not know the signs to look for or the things to avoid if you do not get into your Bible and stay in it!
Psalm 94:20
“Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, Have fellowship with You?”
Psalm 94 highlights the beautiful fact that God is the refuge or shelter of the righteous. Righteous meaning the ones that are in right standing with Him: obeying His laws and abiding by His Word (Bible) which wouldn’t even have been a possibility had it not been for the shed blood of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:21 makes it clear “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
We are still accountable for our own actions, the Lord disarmed the enemy and took away the power that he had over us but it is up to us to properly exercise our authority. The truth of the matter is as Christians we are going to come across opposition with our true enemy, the devil or father of lies. Psalm 94 gives us encouragement that during those times the Lord is the one that rises up against the evildoers, is our Help in times of trouble, holds us up, and delights our soul, Psalm 94-16-19.
The comforting words in this Psalm should give us reassurance knowing that we can count on God when we need Him. His promise to us is that He will never leave you or forsake you, Hebrews 13:5. This kind of guarantee should help us build our faith standing on the promises of God.
The verse I want to highlight is Psalm 94:20 that states, Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, Have fellowship with You?” Breaking down this Scripture we need to understand what the word iniquity means: calamity, wickedness, perverse thing, and mischief just to name a few. We can conclude that the throne of iniquity is pertaining to the powers of darkness, spiritual wickedness, and the wiles of devil.
The thing that the Lord wants us to gather through this verse of Scripture is that we are to have no fellowship (unity, ties, coupling, companionship) with anything that even remotely resembles the devil and his kingdom. Why?
The main reason that God is making it clear how much He opposes His children entertaining the enemy is because the way that demons devise their evil deeds in our lives is by law. What law? The Spiritual laws of God that are scattered throughout the Bible, which is why it is imperative that we gain the knowledge needed to avoid breaking the Laws of God. Both kingdoms (the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness) have to obey Gods rules and regulations.
What is an example of how the devil’s vast army devises their evil by law?
Satan and the powers of darkness are in complete unity to kill, steal, and destroy every single one of us, John 10:10. They will do whatever it takes to accomplish this goal. An example of this is enticing you to commit some form of sin whether it is something physical like fornication, or a sin committed in your heart like hatred towards another person. Make no mistake about it; the kingdom of darkness is well informed on the laws of God. They will watch you and tempt you in the hopes they will catch you breaking a law in the Word of God which will then in turn give them legal access into your life.
For instance, let’s say that you are offended by something someone said or did to you but you refuse to forgive that person. You have now violated the law of God that makes it clear that we are to forgive our brothers and sisters, Matthew 18:21-22. If we fail to do so, the Lord reveals to us our consequence: that we will be handed over to the tormentors (the devil and his demons), Matthew 18:34-35.
The enemy knows this and will use this violation of the law that you have just broken to sneak his way into your life and wreak havoc. That is how they form their mischief by law and because we are unaware of how the spiritual realm works we become easy targets for the enemy to use his flaming arrows to entangle us. The more Bible you know, understand, and apply, the more freedom you will have in regards to the schemes of the devil.
The bottom line is, whether you are a believer of the Lord Jesus Christ or a non-believer, spiritual warfare is an everyday reality. The devil comes as a roaring lion seeking who he can devour, 1 Peter 5:8. You have to remain vigilant and aware of his schemes because he will do whatever he can to ensure that you are standing at the gates of hell when you leave this Earth. I implore you to take your walk with Christ seriously because that is the only way that you will get equipped and stay equipped as soldiers in the army of Jesus Christ!
