Weapons of Warfare-the Holy Spirit
Before we can get into the powerful weapon of Warfare which is the Holy Spirit we must first understand why we need weapons of warfare to begin with. Whether you believe it or not we are all up against a very powerful adversary the devil. He has a highly structured and organized demonic kingdom that wants nothing more than to steal, kill, and destroy your life by any means necessary, John 10:10.
The good news is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again allowing Him to overcome Satan and his entire kingdom triumphing over them openly, Colossians 2:15. Consequently, born again believers of Christ have the power over the devil. Luke 10:19 details, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
In our own strength we are no match for the enemy but through our faith in what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross at Calvary and through the power of the Holy Spirit we can prevail against any tactic and every device. For some reason the Spirit of God gets overlooked and is oftentimes misunderstood. He is the third person of the God head (the trinity) and is just as important as God the Father and God the Son!
The Holy Spirit plays such a significant role in our walk as believers of Jesus Christ. So much so that Jesus Himself made it clear that it is to our benefit that He dies and goes back to the Father in Heaven. John 16:7 discloses, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.”
If Jesus thought it was better for Him to go back up to Heaven and send us the Holy Spirit we need to really pay attention to that and understand why. Let’s take a deeper look into our heavenly prayer language that is given to us when we are baptized in the Holy Spirit.
The power of your prayer language
Before we can understand how you obtain your prayer language we must first understand how the Holy Spirit enters into the life of a believer of Jesus Christ. At the moment of salvation, you receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit that will live on the inside of you. The Word of God goes into detail in 1 Corinthians 3:16, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
Another example is in 2 Timothy 1:14 “That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.” This passage of Scripture written by the Apostle Paul to Timothy is reiterating the fact that the Holy Spirit dwells in us.
The final example in God’s Word regarding the Holy Spirit dwelling in you is in Romans 8:9, “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.” Here we can see that the Apostle Paul is making it known that if you do not have the Spirit of God living on the inside of you, you are not a child of God. These are some examples of what it means to have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of you.
Now the baptism of the Holy Spirit is an entirely different experience. The baptism or infilling of the Holy Spirit is a complete immersion and overflow of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in new tongues. There are many people that confuse speaking in tongues for edification to the body of Christ and for edification to a believer’s personal walk with Jesus Christ. These are two completely different things.
Some passages of Scripture that disclose this infilling are:
Acts 2:1-4 “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Here we can see that the Holy Spirit completely filling the believer is like a rushing mighty wind. The evidence of this infilling is speaking with other tongues.
Matthew 3:11, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
John the Baptist is distinguishing the baptism in water verses the baptism in the Holy Spirit. These are two distinct events that every believer of Jesus Christ should want to pursue. One thing that we can never underestimate is the fact that you are being baptized with the Holy Spirit and FIRE!
The Spirit of God will give you the power to overcome the temptations that the devil will throw at you, the schemes and devices that he will personally develop against you, the Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth (John 16:13), and He will bring Scriptures to your remembrance when you need them to war with (John 14:26). He is such a powerful warfare weapon that we should utilize daily.
I have articles that cover the Holy Spirit that you can look into: The Holy Spirit-The Spirit of Power, Love, and a Sound Mind!, The Holy Spirit-Our Helper, and The Holy Spirit-Our Prayer Partner!
Once you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you will be able to develop your personal prayer language as you exercise your spiritual tongues. See it is a muscle and just like you need to work out your muscles on a regular basis; this form of prayer needs to be worked out in the same way. While you are developing your prayer language you are also increasing your faith in the process.
Let’s take a look at a passage of Scripture that reveals another way that the Holy Spirit can be used as a weapon of warfare.
Romans 8:26-27
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
The Holy Spirit will make intercession for us praying the perfect will of God through us. The fact of the matter is that the devil and his demons cannot understand your communication to our Heavenly Father when you are speaking in tongues. The very thing that the Holy Spirit is speaking through you could be the very thing needed to be prayed to receive your breakthrough.
The Spirit of God will intercede in our time of need and that is why activating our heavenly language is so important because what it does is strengthen that connection between you and the Lord. Never forget the fact that Jesus did not even begin His ministry until the Holy Spirit descended upon Him like a dove, Luke 3:21-22. What happened immediately afterward is even more eye-opening as the Holy Spirit led Him to the wilderness to get tempted by the devil.
Luke 4:1-2 details, “Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. being tempted for forty days by the devil…” Remember Jesus Christ was operating on Earth fully man and fully God but He was not using His deity to overcome Satan, Philippians 2:5-11. The only power source that He was using was the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord put Himself in a place where He could feel what we feel when we are up against the devil and his kingdom.
If Jesus needed the Holy Spirit as His power to overcome the enemy, how much more do we need Him. That is why it is vital that we continue to build our spirit man praying in our heavenly prayer language because what that does is helps us hear Him more clearly. You won’t have to strain to hear Him when He is trying to help you war against your adversary the devil. I cannot tell you how imperative it is as a servant of Jesus Christ to be endued with power from on high, Luke 24:49.
Jesus Christ commanded His disciples to tarry in the upper room until they received the promise of Father which was the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:4-5 accounts, “And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
The baptism of the Holy Spirit was so significant for the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ that He did not want them to leave the upper room until they received it. The love of God for His people is evident. He gave His only Son so that we could have eternal life, power over sin, power over the devil, and so much more. God knew that we would need the help of His Spirit to live successful lives as Christians.
We can see that power and strength displayed in the upper room experience through the Disciples of Christ. When they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in new tongues they became fearless. They immediately went out boldly to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ with signs and wonders and many were saved.
The grace of our God and the presence of His glory filled the entire upper room providing them with a new level of power that they didn’t have before. As Christians we need the power of the Holy Spirit working in us to build our faith and to give us the strength that we need to live triumphant lives as believers over the power of Satan.
That is why Jude 1:20 tells us that we Must build our faith praying in the Holy Spirit. When those perfect prayers are sent to our Heavenly Father His will is done and He begins interceding in our situations. I know there have been times when I am praying in tongues and I can feel the Lord because the presence of His glory is undeniable. I know that He is working things out for my good, Romans 8:28.
Conclusion
The Holy Spirit is the One that is most underestimated and often neglected when it comes to the God Head. He is not a thing but a Person and is the third member of the Trinity. He is a free gift that was given to us after the Lord Jesus Christ died and resurrected and ascended to heaven. He knew that we would need the power of the Holy Spirit to live victorious lives as born again believers of Jesus Christ.
I cannot tell you how vital it is to develop your relationship with the Spirit of God because He is the one that will lead you into absolute Truth and He will tell you things to come, John 16:13. He is the power that raised Jesus from the dead and lives on the inside of us, Romans 8:11. He is greater than the one that is in the world and it would be a disadvantage to disregard His role in your life as a believer of Jesus Christ.
