Positive Thinking-

This Week’s Message: Truly Love Yourself-

Every single one of us was created with unique characteristics and qualities that make you stand apart from everyone else. A lot of times what we tend to do is shy away from those distinct individualities that the Lord intended for you to embrace. Can you imagine how boring the world would be if every person was the exact same?

This week take a moment out of each day to appreciate every single thing that makes you who you are. The Lord hand crafted you and put special gifts and talents in you that nobody else has. We often overlook them and take them for granted.

We all have certain things within ourselves that we wish we could alter or modify. However, that very thing that you want to change about yourself is the same thing that the Lord wants to use for His divine Purpose. Instead of shying away from your individualized characteristics, learn how to fully embrace them

I’ll never forget when the Lord prompted me to speak in front of large crowds using the gift that He gave me of writing poetry. I was terrified to say the least! I was fearful of talking in front of a lot of people and would get extremely anxious every single time.

I had to realize that it was nothing but the enemy trying to overwhelm me with the spirit of fear so that I wouldn’t share my story through poetry. He wanted to silence my voice. As I began to pray about it, the Lord began to strengthen me in that area. When it was time for me to go up and deliver my “spoken word,” the Holy Spirit would completely take over.

At first I didn’t want to embrace the fact that I had a unique ability to convey a message to others because it required me to be uncomfortable. I learned after many years of walking with the Lord Jesus Christ that if you’re feeling uncomfortable that is exactly where He wants you to be. That discomfort is nothing but you walking in your Purpose!

When we can truly love ourselves, it allows us to genuinely love others. The best way to learn how to truly accept the person that you are is by getting into the Word of God. His love for us is displayed in so many areas throughout the Holy Scriptures that you will begin to change the way that you feel about yourself. It has the ability to completely renew your mind, Romans 12:2.

Society has taught us that we are supposed to be perfect, seemingly plastic with no imperfections. When the reality is that a lot of people that we see on T.V or in pictures scattered throughout social media have been altered in one way or another. This false perception often prevents us from fully embracing ourselves.

It is so important to view yourself in the same light that the Lord views you in. He spent time creating every single aspect of who you are with the knowing that you would be destined for greatness. Never allow the opinions of others prevent you from truly loving all of you! Below I am listing some Scriptures to remind us of how special we are in the eyes of the Lord.

Psalm 139

Psalm 139:13

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.”

Psalm 139 is a Psalm that was written by King David recounting his intimate relationship with the Lord. A relationship that ran so deep that David describes God knowing him even before he was in his mother’s womb. The fact is that this is the same kind of relationship that the Lord wants every one of His children to have with Him.

We are his workmanship (Ephesians 2:10); He spent time and love constructing us to be exactly as we are with no alterations. How could we then not accept the person that God destined for us to be? The enemy loves to infiltrate our minds with insecurity, doubt, confusion, fear, and low self-esteem because what that does is prevents us from walking in God’s Purpose for our lives.

That is why I love this Psalm so much, it displays the Lord’s genuine and beautiful love that He has for us. He knew every mistake, every vile sin that we would commit, and every way that we would mess up yet He still chose to create us. He knows all things about you: your mannerisms, the way that you think, the way that you see things, the way that you learn, what you like, what you don’t like, and everything in between. He absolutely adores every single one of us!

The reason why it is some vital that you love entirely is because if you don’t, it will be difficult for you to love another person the way that they deserve to be loved. For me, the Lord needed to have me alone one on one with Him as He began to sift all of the nastiness out of me little by little. I had to learn how to appreciate every distinct characteristic that made me the person that I was. It was only then that He put my husband in my path knowing that I was ready to completely love him like he deserved to be loved.

That is why it is so important that you learn to accept every imperfection, every flaw, and every beautiful blemish that makes you the rare gem that you are. When you can do that, your life will be so much happier and that joy will spread to everyone around you!

1 Peter 3

1 Peter 3:3-4

“Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”

In these two verses of Scripture we can conclude that the Lord is really not interested in what we look like on the outside but rather focuses on our heart. The characteristics that He sees as beautiful are a “…gentle and quiet spirit…” The word gentle in verse 4 means peaceable. The thing is when you have doubt, uncertainty, low self-esteem, or a low level of confidence it will mess with your peace.

God wants to reiterate the importance of inner beauty. We can step out of the house looking like a million dollars with the perfect outfit, your hair done to perfection, and leave driving in the most expensive car, but what is your heart looking like? When you are fully content with the person that you are, your entire demeanor will reflect it. You will not need flashy things to prove your self-worth.

A person that is walking with the Lord Jesus Christ that knows who they are because they know Whom they belong to will be able to walk into a room and not have to say a word. Their presence will do all the talking for them. This kind of confidence is not arrogance it has to do with completely accepting who you are.

This is possible for anyone regardless of how you view yourself. You have to be willing to saturate your mind and heart with the Lord’s Word and it will begin to resonate in your spirit allowing you to realize your value. God tells us exactly how He feels about His children throughout the entirety of the Bible, the more we read and apply it to our lives the less likely we will be moved by negative outside opinions.

There will always be someone that has something to say, but when you are filled with the Holy Spirit paired with the Word of God nothing can faze you. If you are struggling with low self-esteem, a key thing that you can do to combat those feelings is to gather a list of Scriptures about what the Lord says about you and meditate on them.

At the end of the day, the opinion of the world does not matter. As long as you still have breath in your body, you are here for a Purpose. Don’t focus on the things about you that cannot be changed; instead focus on making you the best version of yourself that you can possibly be inside and out.

Embrace those distinct characteristics, those quirky mannerisms, and your unique way of seeing things because those are the things that are going to set you apart from everyone else. Your distinctness is what the Lord wants to use to display His Glory, welcome them!

Luke 12

Luke 12:6-7

“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

In these two Bible verses, Luke through the Holy Spirit, is giving us a comparison between the animals that the Lord creates and us. There is not one animal on the planet that does not have a way to provide food for themselves in one way or another. God cared enough for every single one of them that He made sure they would be able to live on the Earth.

How much more is He concerned with us. Luke goes into detail in verse 7 when he states, “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered…” The Lord knows every one of us so specifically that He would know if even one hair was out of place. Then he goes on to say “…you are of more value than many sparrows, Luke 12:7.

Basically what God wants us to realize is how special and valuable that we are to Him. We cannot allow the enemy to prevent us from being the confident, positive, bold, and fierce person that the Lord created us to be. The fact is that we were made in His image, Genesis 1:27.

There are many factors that can determine how we feel about ourselves:

  • Not knowing or understanding the love that Jesus Christ has for every one of us
  • The way that our parents treated us as children
  • A traumatic experience in a relationship
  • Words that someone said to you leaving long lasting negative results

Those are just some of the many ways that one can develop the inability to fully love themselves. This is the perfect breeding ground for the enemy to come in and plant negative seeds in your mind creating mental and emotional strongholds. That is why the Word of the Lord is so important. It has the ability to combat every one of those fiery arrows that he will throw in your direction. For every adverse emotion that you are feeling about yourself, God has provided you with a verse of Scripture to counteract it.

This week take the time to evaluate whether or not you truly love yourself wholeheartedly. The Lord took the time to create every one of us in His Image. Try to embrace what makes you unique and distinct. The fact of the matter is it is difficult to love those around you if you don’t completely love yourself. You are special, His masterpiece placed on this Earth for a divine Purpose. Walk with confidence and boldness knowing exactly Who you belong to!
