Spiritual Oppression: The Dangers of Open Doors to the Enemy-Part 3

Spiritual Oppression 3

Unforgiveness (continued)-

Does the Lord expect us to forgive others?

Not only does the Lord expect us to forgive others, but He commands us to. In the Lord’s model prayer He shows us that He is faithful to forgive us of our trespasses but there is a stipulation: we must forgive those that trespass against us, Matthew 6:12. You can find yourself opening up doors to the enemy inviting all kinds of spiritual oppression and strongholds by your inability to let go of things that others have done to you. Especially if you feel like they don’t deserve to be forgiven. It will be one of the hardest things that you will ever have to do. Trust me I know I have been there, but it is necessary to avoid being put in the prison of unforgiveness and the spiritual bondages that it brings.

This Biblical principle which is found in so many places throughout the entirety of the Word of God is what the devil and his demonic spirits will use against you if you fail to forgive those that have wronged you. He will ensure that you develop a root of bitterness so deep that it will be impossible to reach low enough to pull it out!

One of the things that we know is that God looks at our heart, 1 Samuel 16:7. With that being said, we have to make sure that when we forgive the people that offended us we have to truly let it go. It is one thing to say that you forgave because it sounds good, but actually doing it is a whole other story. You have to be willing to keep it 100 % with yourself regarding whether or not you have genuinely forgiven.

Below are some ways that you can tell whether or not you have actually pardoned the person or people that have offended you:

  • You don’t immediately feel angry when someone mentions their name
  • You don’t try to avoid them if they are in the same room as you (including eye contact)
  • You can help them in their time of need and not think twice about it
  • You no longer allow what they did to you bring up negative emotions

These are just some examples of how you will know in your heart that you have let go of that offense that another person did towards you. You definitely do not want to be that bitter person that allows the enemy through open doors to infiltrate your heart with negative emotions like hate, animosity, and resentment. That is the last thing that you need because what that can do is invite physical ailments like: high blood pressure, insomnia, high stress levels, and many other adverse conditions due to the chains of unforgiveness.

It can also have an effect on your mental health. Since you are carrying around that heavy burden due to your lack of forgiveness; you can develop anxiety, depression, apprehension, uneasiness, and many other negative feelings. How does this happen and how does unforgiveness open the door to the enemy? We have to remember that the Satan and his kingdom form their mischief by law, Psalm 94:20. Since you are breaking one of the Lord’s Biblical principles of forgiveness the Word of God tells us that our repercussion for this kind of disobedience is that we are now being handed over to the tormentors, Matthew 18:34-35.

The enemy knows this and will use his foot soldiers (demons) to plant thoughts in your mind that make you dwell on past events and remember painful experiences which will bring up old wounds in the hopes that you will develop unforgiveness. Once they do that, they now have legal access into your life to create other strongholds that are harder to dismantle. You have to be willing to make the conscious decision to truly forgive and mean it from the heart.

So, what can someone do if they are struggling to forgive? The first step is to repent for your inability to forgive your brothers and sisters as God has forgiven you and commanded you to do. Then call on the Name of Jesus to give you the strength through the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome your unforgiveness. Get into the Word of God and allow that constant renewal of your mind to take place, Romans 12:2.

There are so many benefits of forgiveness and that is where you will begin to find your inner healing, peace that surpasses understanding, release of emotional pain, and so many other positive outcomes. God’s grace is beyond measure and He will help you overcome those strongholds of unforgiveness that the enemy loves to use against you. Below I am listing some scriptures that show what the Lord feels about forgiveness and how He expects us to handle it.

Scriptures on forgiveness

Scriptures regarding the Lord’s Stipulations when it comes to forgiveness:

  • Matthew 6:14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
  • Luke 6:37 ”Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”
  • Mark 11:25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.”
  • Matthew 6:15 “But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
  • Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

In these verses of Scripture listed above you can see a common theme, there is a stipulation in every single one of them. The Lord uses words like if, judge not, condemn not, and the main word used is forgive. God is making it abundantly clear that in order for us to receive true forgiveness from Him, we must first forgive others.

Our Heavenly Father wants us to live a life abundantly, John 10:10. The thing is in order for us to live this kind of life free from the bondages that the enemy tries to put us in, we have to be willing to follow the rules and regulations that the Lord has established for every one of us. One of the main principles that He commands us to do is to forgive. Without forgiveness, there is no freedom that is how significant it really is!

Scriptures on what the Lord does

These Scriptures listed below are examples of what the Lord expects us to do when it comes to forgiving others:

  • Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake;
And I will not remember your sins.”
  • Psalm 103:12 “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
  • Hebrews 8:12 “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
  • Micah 7:19 “He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea.”
  • Hebrews 10:17 “then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

There is also a common theme in these particular verses of Scripture and that is that the Lord promises us that when He forgives us of our transgressions, He doesn’t remind us of them ever again. There are many examples that show this fact in these Bible verses when the Lord uses words like remembers them no more, throws them into the depths of the sea, blots them out, and removes them as far as the east is to the west.

God’s forgiveness is a gift that we should never take for granted. We forget all of the things that we have done in disobedience to the Lord and His Word, yet He forgave us. The grace of God is Him choosing to bless us rather than curse us for the wrong that we have done. We need to take a step back and look at our own lives and our own sins and realize the magnitude of God’s forgiveness that the blood of Jesus paid for! I know for me before I was saved the list went on and on, but He forgave me and wiped my slate clean! The stipulation was that I had to forgive every person that every did me wrong.

The will of God is that we do the same thing pertaining to forgiving our brothers and sisters just as He has forgiven us. We need to get to the point in our lives where we understand that letting go of the poison of unforgiveness benefits us more than anyone else. It is not worth you opening those doors letting the enemy come right in and wreak havoc in your life because he will! The last thing that you need is for a bitter root to spring up and produce.

The act of forgiveness starts with you first acknowledging that you have bitterness in your heart that needs to be removed. That old wound caused by a toxic relationship, the pain that was caused by the very people that you trusted, the close relationship that produced trauma, the people that pretended to be your friend just to talk about you behind your back, and every other agonizing situation that caused you to develop unforgiveness you have to let it go. Get all of that residue that the enemy is using against you out of your heart.

Remember, pardoning someone for the wrong that they did to you does not mean that you have to become their best friend. You don’t even have to be around them more than you need to, especially if they are toxic. One thing that you want to do is pray for them, bless them if they need it, and you can love them from afar, Matthew 5:44. It’s about changing your entire mindset when it comes to how you view life.

You deserve a fresh start but you are the only person that can make that happen! God’s forgiveness is the model that you want to follow when it comes to how you are to let things go. Trust and believe God has your back when it comes to vengeance and the person that did you wrong will have to face consequences.

  • Deuteronomy 32:35 “Vengeance is Mine, and recompense; Their foot shall slip in due time;
For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things to come hasten upon them.’
  • Deuteronomy 28:7 “The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.”

God will fight our battles for us and He has it all under control, but we have to trust Him enough to give Him all of our burdens including that offense that you’re clinging onto! Trust me when I tell you it is not worth it. Your happiness, joy, peace, health, and over all well-being is affected when you refuse to forgive! Don’t give the devil that open door to come through as he pleases, shut it and keep it shut!
