Praise His Name

Praise His Name

One of the most powerful spiritual weapons that we have access to at all times is the ability to praise the Lord’s Name. Our praises have the capacity to confuse the enemy, usher in the presence of the Lord, bring forth victory, and makes things move in the spiritual realm. When we can get in a posture of adoration to the Lord in and out of season, our enemy is stripped away from one of the weapons that he uses on Christians on a consistent basis, our silence.

If he can put us in a state of defeat unable to give God the glory that He deserves, he has us right where he wants us. That is why it is so significant to take Psalm 34:1 seriously, David writes, I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” God wants us to be prepared to face the enemy and that is why He is giving us one of the most powerful weapons that we can use, our praise.

Another verse of Scripture that we can look at out of the book of Psalms is Psalm 18:3 David writes, “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.” This is just more clarification that worship and honor to our Heavenly Father saves us from the hands of the devil.

In order to fully grasp just how powerful spiritual weaponry truly is you have to gain the understanding that you are fighting against an enemy that you cannot see with the naked eye. Therefore it would only make sense that your strength comes from unseen artillery that God provides every one of us. 2 Corinthians 10:4 states, For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.”

Digging even a little deeper we can learn a lot from the Apostle Paul when he writes to the Church of Ephesus. One verse in particular is very telling, Ephesians 6:12 details, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

You have to know the opponent that you are up against in order to be successful in extinguishing his attacks. We are not to be ignorant of his devices, 2 Corinthians 2:11. Praising the Lord’s Name is vital when it comes to spiritual warfare. The fact is we have to make it a habit to praise God when: you are doing well in life, when things are not the best, and most importantly when you’re facing trials and tribulations.

I am going to go over some of the Names of the Lord found in His Word. That way you can have an understanding of the different ways that He plays a role in every life of the believer.

El Shaddai-(Lord God Almighty)

God’s all-encompassing power! He can provide you with whatever you need. We have to learn not to limit Him or put Him in a box. He can do all things whenever and wherever. Never forget, if God is for you who can be against you?!

Genesis 17:1 “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.”

Adonai-(Lord, Master)

The Lord is the Master over all things. God wants to be the Lord of your entire life but in order for that to be possible; you have to be willing to lay your life down. Complete submission is one of the most difficult things to do, but it can be done. The question is: are you willing to give your life for His?

Isaiah 6:3 “And one cried to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”

El Elyon-(The Most High God)

He is called the most high God because there should be nothing or anyone that is greater in your life than Him. He is a jealous God and wants to have your entire heart. If you can give Him all of you, He will provide you with a life in abundance.

Genesis 14:18-20 “Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said:

“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth;
And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”

And he gave him a tithe of all.

Jehovah Nissi-(The Lord my Banner)

This name signifies that the Lord will fight your battle for you. Just like He did for Moses against the Amalekites, He will do the same for us today. He will hold us up during battle when we are too weak to continue moving forward!

Exodus 17:15-16 “And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; for he said, “Because the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

Jehovah Rapha-(The Lord that Heals)

The Lord is the ultimate Physician having the ability to make a way when there seems to be no way! He is the One that can cure all sickness and disease regardless of the prognosis!

Exodus 15:26 “and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

El Roi-(God of seeing)

God has the ability to see us in our time of need. He knows every single hair on the top of our heads. Never think for a moment that God doesn’t care about your trials and tribulations. He sees all things and will provide every necessity!

Genesis 16:13 “Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?”

Jehovah Shalom-(The Lord is Peace)

The Lord has a way of bringing peace in the middle of the storm. If you’ve ever gone through circumstances that threaten to take you out and relied on the Lord’s peace to get you through then you know exactly why He is called the Lord is Peace!

Judges 6:24 “So Gideon built an altar there to the Lord, and called it The-Lord-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.”

Yahweh-(Lord, Jehovah)

In other words God is the I am. He is the only One that you will ever need. We can never underestimate Who God is. That is why the word Yahweh is so important because it is a constant reminder that God is all things and everything!

Daniel 9:14 “Therefore the Lord has kept the disaster in mind, and brought it upon us; for the Lord our God is righteous in all the works which He does, though we have not obeyed His voice.”

Elohim (God, Creator)

God is the Creator of the heavens and the Earth and there is no god that is greater. He is the only One that can breathe life into our human bodies which in turn creates a living being. A lot of people want to stand by other theories of how human beings came into existence but Christians that have a true relationship with the Lord know that He is the only God and Creator!

Jeremiah 31:33 “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

Conclusion

Never underestimate the power of your praise! It has the ability to shift things in the spiritual realm which in turn can change your entire situation. Make it a point to write down the Names of God that are listed in this article and meditate on them. It will enhance your understanding of the Lord and most importantly how you Praise His Name!
