A lot of times what we do is we go for the person that “looks good” but we never want the person that has a beautiful heart. The problem with that way of thinking is that looks are always going to fade away and when they do the only thing left is that person’s character, integrity, and personality. If you didn’t take the time to truly get to know you partner before you marry them, you really don’t know the person that you are getting.

We have to remember that when we marry someone the two of us become one. The Word of God tells us in Mark 10:7-8 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.”

What this means is that everything that your spouse is dealing with is now going to become your problem or your blessing. For instance, if your husband or wife is not good with money; they are going to bring that baggage into your marriage. If your husband or wife allows outside influences to constantly interfere, you will now be dealing with that issue in your marriage.

I remember when I met my husband; we took years to get to really know each other. I mean we really went into depth about the good, the bad, and the ugly, but what that did was prepare us for having a long lasting marriage. We will always be a work in progress but we knew what we were getting from each other before we got married.

You want to make sure that you are inviting the Holy Spirit into such a concrete decision. He will lead you and guide you into all truth (John 16:13) including the person that is right for you. What happens to a good majority of Christians is that they don’t allow the Spirit of God to truly be involved in their lives.

The takeaway from this particular quote is that you never want to sell yourself short, outward appearances will eventually fade away and what is on the inside is what will be left. Choose someone that has depth, intellect, and personality that you can see yourself with for the rest of your life. Quality characteristics are what you want to look for when searching for your King or Queen.
