The Importance of Reading your Bible-Builds Your Faith
Why is Building your Faith important?
To have an understanding as to why building your faith is so important we need to look at what the Lord has to say about it. Hebrews 11:6 details, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” This Bible verse is extremely revealing God is unequivocally letting us know that it is “impossible” to please Him without having faith.
What is the Lord referencing when He mentions faith? We have already learned from the previous article: The Importance of Reading your Bible-Reveals Jesus Christ that Jesus Christ is the Word of God that became flesh and dwelt among us. Placing your faith in the Lord’s Word is placing your faith in Jesus Christ as He is the Word. It’s having trust in your heart that every word written in the Bible is the absolute Truth because it is!
If you aren’t reading your Bible, how are you building your faith? It is nearly impossible to establish trust and belief that God is Who He says He is if you know nothing about Him. The Lord wishes that every single one of us builds an intimate relationship with Him and one of the primary ways that He speaks to us is through His Word.
I can’t express to you how vital it is that you spend time reading your Bible: studying it, digesting it, and applying it to your daily life. It is the best way to overcome the schemes and wiles of the devil. Remember God’s Word is your double-edged Sword (Hebrews 4:12) and the sharper that it is the more powerful it is!
How does a person sharpen their Sword? This question is very simple to answer; you must read your Bible. This allows the Holy Spirit to have Scriptures to pull from to bring to your remembrance when you need them. I learned how to fight against the strong demonic oppression that I was facing simply by consuming God’s Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to use it to guide and direct me to victory!
If He did it for me, He can do it for you. Don’t let the enemy make you think that the Bible is just a book that you can afford to gather dust on your bookshelf. That is a lie from the pit of hell! Your Word has the ability to build the tremendous faith that you will need to overcome sickness, infirmity, oppression, doubt, fear, unbelief, and every other tactic that the devil formulates against you!
I am going to go over some Scriptures pertaining to the importance of reading your Word to establish your faith.
Romans 10:17
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
It is extremely imperative that you build your Faith, but how do you do that? This authoritative verse right here tells you how, by hearing a Word from God. The word “word” used in this verse of Scripture is pertaining to the Greek word rhema which means a spoken word.
You can receive this kind of revelation from the Lord in many ways including: while reading the Lord’s Word, a Pastor can be giving a sermon that the Lord is using to speak to you; the Lord can give a person a specific message to give directly to you pertaining to a situation, and many other ways.
That is why it is so significant that you spend time reading the Gospel of Christ because it helps you develop your faith. Whether you are reading the Old Testament or the New Testament the entirety of the Bible is the message of Christ. Remember Jesus is the Word that became flesh so having faith in His Word is equivalent to having faith in Him. As you allow the Scriptures to saturate your heart and mind, you will begin to trust that God is exactly Who He says He is making it easier to stand on His promises.
The Word of truth is the only absolute truth! So much so that the Lord places His Word even before His own Name, Psalm 138:2. You can count on the fact that whatever is written in the entire Bible will never change and cannot change. God is not a man that should lie (Numbers 23:19); if He said it, it is so.
That is really great news for every believer of Jesus Christ because what that means is that every guarantee listed in the Holy Bible is promised to us. The main thing that we want to ensure is that we are living our lives abiding by the Lord’s principles and guidelines. This will prevent the enemy from blocking our blessings and interfering in God’s plan for our lives.
1 Peter 1:7-9
“that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.”
These verses of Scripture from the New Testament are explaining to us the importance of having faith. Peter describes it as being more precious than gold. He defines it as a faith so significant that it can be tried and tested and still prevails. When you have an enormous level of gratitude and appreciation for Jesus Christ and what He has done for you, your faith remains solid.
Then Peter mentions how he is amazed that believers of Jesus Christ have the capability to love Him, believe in Him, and rejoice in Him without having seen Him face to face. The bottom line is that you will know when your faith is beginning to be established because you will begin to feel unconditional love for Jesus Christ in your heart. You will want to do whatever you can to strengthen your relationship with Him.
The gift of God which is the Holy Spirit is the One that will help you establish your relationship with the Lord. He will reveal what it means to have true faith. One of His sole responsibilities is to help us understand the entire message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That message is found in the Word of God so the more that you spend time in your Bible, the more revelation from the Holy Spirit you will receive.
The Word of God discloses to us in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” The Bible is living and has the transforming power of the Holy Spirit saturated in each page.
The thing that you want to make sure to have a clear understanding of is Who Christ is and what He did for you on the cross at Calvary. His sacrificial death means so many things to every Christian but you will never know what those things are if you never read your Word. As your knowledge in the Scriptures increase you will realize that the Lord is the only lifeline that you will ever need. He will never leave you nor forsake you, Hebrews 13:5!
Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
In order to fully grasp the concept of having faith in the promises that we cannot yet see we need to ask ourselves if we truly believe in what the Bible says. Do we believe that God’s promises are really meant for us? This verse of Scripture is plainly stating that faith is the glue or stitching to the assurance that you are hoping for.
God is showing us that His Word is the substance or currency of the things that we are believing Him for. When we are coming to God in our time of need expecting a positive outcome, we need to make sure that we are approaching Him with what His Word tells us concerning that matter.
The scriptures are filled with the promises of the Lord but the question is; are we standing on those promises as the absolute truth? Are we speaking His Words over our family, our children, and ourselves? They contain the power of God!
One of the things that we need to understand beyond a shadow of a doubt is that the Lord’s Word has everything that we will ever need to live a victorious life. The Holy Scriptures encompass faith, deliverance, healing, peace, strength, power, joy, and so much more. The problem is that we don’t spend enough time in our Bibles to establish the concrete radical faith needed to endure the trials and tribulations of life.
Building your foundation on the Chief Cornerstone which is Jesus Christ is what will ensure that your faith grows exponentially. The Word is transformative so if you are overcome with doubt and unbelief you need to make sure that you are counteracting those demonic emotions with Scriptures. That is how you are truly going to begin to see a breakthrough in the level of your faith!
Conclusion
The Word of God is saturated with His promises that He has made to each and every one of us. It is so important that we take the time out to open our Bibles and study it, digest it, and apply it to our daily lives. As you consistently allow the Scriptures into your heart your faith will begin to naturally grow.
We can never forget that the primary way that the Lord speaks to us is through His Word. Other ways that He conveys messages is through pastors or people that He may use to give you a specific word for a certain reason. The outcome is always to build your faith, strengthen you, guide you, or lead you. Never underestimate the importance of reading God’s Word, it is literally the bread of life!
