The Importance of Reading your Bible-Has the Ability to Heal

The Importance of Reading your Bible-Has the Ability to Heal

Who is your Healer?

It is extremely important that we gain an understanding of Who our Healer actually is. Let’s take a look at some of the references from the Old Testament. Exodus 15:26 states, “and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

One of the Names of God is Jehovah Rapha which means “The Lord Who heals.” We know that the entirety of the Word of God is about Jesus Christ. He was the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us, John 1:14. In the Old Testament the Person of Christ was concealed and in the New Testament, He was revealed. There are many occasions in the Old Testament that Jesus is prophesied about.

One thing that we know for sure is that God and Jesus Christ are One in the same. John 1:1-2 depicts “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” Here we can see that the “Word” which is Jesus Christ was with God from the beginning and He was God. With that being said we know that Jesus Christ is also mentioned as our Healer.

Isaiah 53:5 states, But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” In this passage of Scripture Christ is mentioned in the Old Testament through a prophecy by the Prophet Isaiah declaring that by “His stripes we are healed.” Before the foundation of the Earth it had already been established that we were going to be in need of a Savior.

Jesus Christ died a brutal death on the cross at Calvary so that He could pay for our sin penalty in full. This would allow us to have a chance of eternal life with Him in heaven. There are so many other benefits that have been afforded to us because of what Christ did for us. One of the blessings that we get to partake in is experiencing healing while we are still in this mortal body.

The Holy Spirit also plays a vital role when it comes to healing through the Word of God. He is our Helper whom the Father sent in the Name of Jesus, John 14:26. The Lord is seated at the right hand of the Father so it is the Holy Spirit that is giving us power to heal and restore our hearts, bodies, and minds. He helps us in our weaknesses and that includes moments when we are sick in our bodies, Romans 8:26-27. As long as you are not violating Scripture with what you are doing or seeking God for, the Holy Spirit will empower you to keep pressing forward, Zechariah 4:6.

The Word of God is living and powerful and is your double-edged Sword, Hebrews 4:12. It is not like any other ordinary book that you buy at the book store and read, not even close! The reason why it is mentioned in the book of Hebrews as “living” is because it is literally Jesus Christ coming alive on every page and every passage of Scripture.

I cannot explain to you how important it is to get into you Word and study it for yourself. You cannot rely on your pastor or anyone else to have the sole responsibility of breaking it down for you. That obligation falls on you, there are no excuses. With the help of the Holy Spirit He will guide you and lead you into all truth including how the Lord’s Word can heal your body.

I am going to go over some Scriptures that you can meditate on regarding the Word of God having the ability to heal.

Psalm 107:20

“He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.”

This is the primary verse of Scripture that I want to focus on pertaining to the Holy Scriptures having healing capabilities. Here we can see a prophecy given by King David regarding the Lord sending His Word (Jesus Christ) to heal them (us). This was fulfilled when Jesus Christ died on Calvary’s Cross and redeemed the entire human race from the curse of sin and death.

Because the Lord was our successful sacrificial Lamb, sin no longer has dominion over us. What does that mean? What that means is that the enemy and his demonic kingdom cannot just come into your life and wreak havoc. The blood of Jesus washes away our sins and thus allows us to have power over the schemes of the devil. One of his most used tactics is to keep believers of Jesus Christ bound by sickness, disease, and oppressive attacks on your mind.

As you begin to read your Bible, you will begin to see all of God’s promises that He makes to every one of us. The thing is you have to be willing to actually study it, digest it, and apply it to your daily life. There is healing power in the Lord’s Word. If you are sick in your body, plagued in your mind, or any other demonic attack that you could be facing the Word of God has your answer.

Renewing your mind set is imperative to your healing process. The Scriptures tell us in Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” As you allow the Lord’s Word to renew your frame of mind you will begin to naturally develop faith. Remember “faith comes by hearing the Word,” Romans 10:17.

The more that the Scriptures are saturated in your heart and mind, the easier you are going to be able to stand on God’s Word telling that sickness, disease, or oppression to GO! What it really boils down to is whether or not you really believe that the Bible is the absolute truth.

There are so many verses that give us promises that we can count on. We have to get to the point in our lives where we learn to stand on God’s firm foundation which is the Word of God which is Jesus Christ. Remember He that is in you is always greater than he that is in the World, 1 John 4:4.

How do you apply Scriptures for healing?

As I mentioned before there are so many passages out of the Lord’s Word that guarantee our freedom from sickness, disease, and oppression. What we need to do is counteract the lies that the devil is feeding us with the Holy Scriptures. One of the enemy’s primary goals is to make us feel like there is no power in the Bible or in the Name of Jesus.

He knows that if Christians truly understood that God’s Word is literally a Sword, they would face their trials and tribulations differently. One of the main things that we need to ensure is that we pray without having any doubt. The Word of God tells us in James 1:6, “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

James (Jesus’s half-brother) is disclosing to us what happens when our faith waivers. We are tossed to and fro like the waves of the sea in the wind. In other words, the words that we are speaking when asking for the Lord for something in prayer have no weight behind them because we don’t truly believe in what we are saying.

I personally had to develop my faith over time in my personal walk with the Lord. I made it my mission to mature the level of my faith that I had by reading God’s Word, spending time in prayer, and spending personal intimate time with the Lord. I know how important faith is to the Lord as we cannot please Him without having faith, Hebrews 11:6. That is a strong declaration that I take seriously!

Some examples of healing Scriptures that you can proclaim are:

Psalm 41:3 “The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.”

Notice in this verse of Scripture that the Lord is telling us that He will strengthen you on your bed of illness and He will sustain you on your sickbed. He doesn’t say words like possibly, maybe, or I might. We can conclude that if we have faith (in Jesus and what He did for us on the cross) we can confidently proclaim this verse of Scripture as if it is already done.

One thing that you never want to do is use words contrary to the Scriptures that you proclaiming over your situation. What this does is cancel out the Truth that you are speaking.

For instance: you don’t want to say things like:

  • I want to be healed
  • I am hoping for my healing
  • I don’t know if I am going to make it out of this

These words of doubt are seeds planted in your mind by the devil that is making you develop disbelief in your heart that God can heal you.

Proclaim God’s Word and add things like:

  • I am healed
  • I am delivered
  • I am redeemed

This has nothing to do with the false doctrine of “name it and claim it” which is usually centered around receiving material blessings. What having faith for healing has to do with is your unwavering belief that God’s Word will do what is says that it will do.

Jesus gave instructions to his disciples as He sent them out Matthew 10:8 depicts, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” One of the main things that He told them to do was to go out and heal the sick. He wouldn’t have included that specific word if healing was not meant for us. Jesus consistently “healed them all” over and over again throughout His Earthly ministry Matthew 8:16, Matthew 12:15, Matthew 14:14, Matthew 15:30, Matthew 21:14, to name a few.

One of the reasons that Jesus Christ died on the cross at Calvary is for us to be free from the bondages of Satan and his demonic kingdom, Hebrews 2:14. This includes us having sickness in our bodies. Why? The Lord wants to use every single one of us as His vessels here on Earth. How can we be used to our fullest capacity if we have sickness is our bodies?

Jeremiah 17:14 “Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise.”

Here is a verse of Scripture from the Old Testament where the prophet Jeremiah is declaring that the Lord will heal and save. God didn’t say He might or maybe, once again He is stating that you shall be healed! God is not a man that lies, so if He said it we can rest assured that it is the absolute truth.

With so many promises and so many guarantees that the Lord gives us over and over again in His Word, what is preventing us from having faith in them? One of the main problems that Christians face when trying to establish our faith is we don’t spend enough time in the God’s Word. The more Bible that you have written on your heart, the more freedom you will see displayed in your life.

Conclusion

Jesus Christ died a brutal death on the cross at Calvary to pay the sin debt for the entire human race. He triumphed over the devil and his demonic kingdom exposing them openly, Colossians 2:14-15. Because of His amazing sacrifice we are afforded so many benefits as believers of Jesus Christ.

One of the opportunities that we have as Christians is the ability to overcome sickness. The question that you have to ask yourself is: Do you truly believe that God is Who He says He is? If you have faith even as small as a mustard seed, you can tell your mountain to move and it will move, Matthew 17:20!
