Build Your Faith-Praying in Your Prayer Language

How do you receive your prayer language?

Before we can understand how you obtain your prayer language we must first understand how the Holy Spirit enters into the life of a believer of Jesus Christ. At the moment of salvation, you receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit that will live on the inside of you. The Word of God goes into detail in 1 Corinthians 3:16, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”

Another example is in 2 Timothy 1:14 “That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.” This passage of Scripture written by the Apostle Paul to Timothy is reiterating the fact that the Holy Spirit dwells in us.

The final example in God’s Word regarding the Holy Spirit dwelling in you is in Romans 8:9, “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.” Here we can see that the Apostle Paul is making it known that if you do not have the Spirit of God living on the inside of you, you are not a child of God. These are some examples of what it means to have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of you.

Now the baptism of the Holy Spirit is an entirely different experience. The baptism or infilling of the Holy Spirit is a complete immersion and overflow of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in new tongues. There are many people that confuse speaking in tongues for edification to the body of Christ and for edification to a believer’s personal walk with Jesus Christ. These are two completely different things.

Some passages of Scripture that disclose this infilling are:

Acts 2:1-4 “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Here we can see that the Holy Spirit completely filling the believer is like a rushing mighty wind. The evidence of this infilling is speaking with other tongues.

Matthew 3:11, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

John the Baptist is distinguishing the baptism in water verses the baptism in the Holy Spirit. These are two distinct events that every believer of Jesus Christ should want to pursue. One thing that we can never underestimate is the fact that you are being baptized with the Holy Spirit and FIRE!

I have articles that cover the Holy Spirit that you can look into:  The Holy Spirit-The Spirit of Power, Love, and a Sound Mind! The Holy Spirit-Our Helper, and The Holy Spirit-Our Prayer Partner!

Once you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you will be able to develop your personal prayer language as you exercise your spiritual tongues. See it is a muscle and just like you need to work out your muscles on a regular basis; this form of prayer needs to be worked out in the same way. While you are developing your prayer language you are also increasing your faith in the process.

Let’s take a look at the passage of Scripture that disclose the importance of Praying in your prayer language to establish your faith.

Jude 1:20

“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”

This passage out of the book of Jude is giving us some key information when it comes to developing your faith. In order to put the verse into proper context we need to take a look some of the verses before Jude 1:20. The first thing that we can determine is that he was speaking to believers.

Jude 1:1 details, “Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James,

To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ.”

Here we can see Jude addressing Christians giving them critical information about developing their faith. Then he discloses why it was imperative to establish strong faith in the Lord. Jude 1:4 depicts, “For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

When your faith is not rooted and grounded on the ROCK which is Jesus Christ you can easily be swayed in all different directions. You will face false prophets, false teachers with false teaching that have no fear of the Lord. It is your responsibility to have discernment with the ability to rightly divide the Word of God, 2 Timothy 2:15. One main way to improve your judgment is by praying in the Holy Spirit and He will guide you into all truth as well as build your faith in the Lord, John 16:13.

Now that we have a little bit of background leading up to Jude 1:20 let’s take a closer look at the primary passage of Scripture that I am highlighting. One thing that we know for sure is the Jude is making it clear that you can build your faith by praying in the Holy Spirit (your heavenly language). In your Christian life you are going to go through difficult times and you won’t always know what to do. It is so important to rely on the Lord in those moments, Proverbs 3:5-6.

Breaking down the passage of Scripture we can see that the words “building up” being used here is the Greek word epoikodomeō which means: to build up, resting on your most Holy faith as a foundation, make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher. The words “most holy” being used is the Greek word agios which means: most holy thing, sacred (physically, pure, morally blameless). The word “faith” being used is the Greek word pistis which means: the substance of Christian faith.

So when we piece these keys words together we can determine that Jude is telling believers that they are to build their foundation of faith continually (Holy faith building). Remaining upright morally and blameless in the Lord’s eyes believing that God is Who He says He is and that the Word of God is the absolute truth.

Then he goes a little bit deeper when he states, “…praying in the Holy Spirit.” So he is revealing to us one of the primary ways that we are to build up our faith and that is praying in your prayer language (praying in tongues). These types of prayers are the most seamless prayers that you could possibly pray. They are warfare and battle prayers because the devil and his demonic kingdom don’t know what you’re praying so they won’t know how to counterattack.

The Spirit of the Lord will aid you in praying a true prayer straight to God that is the exact perfect will of God. Romans 8:26-27 discloses, “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

The Holy Spirit will make intercession for us praying the perfect will of God through us. When we are in that vulnerable state we aren’t thinking clearly and don’t always know what to pray as the Apostle Paul explains in these verses of Scripture. The Holy Spirit praying through us helps us in those moments of weakness. God’s love is like no other love it is perfect and because He loved us so much He gave us the perfect gift of the Holy Spirit to intercede for us in our time of need.

Then Jude goes on to reveal another key factor in maintaining our faith when he states in Jude 1:21 “keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” God’s love is incomparable there is literally no other love that can even compare to it. When you read the Word of God He lets us know how much He loves every single one of us. The Holy Spirit plays a key role in bringing God’s promises to our remembrance.

As we continue to build our spirit man praying in our heavenly prayer language it strengthens our connection to the Lord. What that does is helps us hear Him more clearly; we won’t have to strain to hear Him. I cannot tell you how imperative it is as a servant of Jesus Christ to be endued with power from on high, Luke 24:49. Jesus Christ commanded His disciples to tarry in the upper room until they received the promise of Father which was the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:4-5 accounts, “And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

The baptism of the Holy Spirit was so vital for the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ that He did not want them to leave the upper room until they received it. The love of God for His people is evident. He gave His only Son so that we could have eternal life, power over sin, the power of the Holy Spirit, and so much more. God knew that we would need the help of His Spirit to live successful lives as Christians.

We can see that power and strength displayed in the upper room experience through the Disciples of Christ. When they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in new tongues they became fearless. They immediately went out boldly to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ with signs and wonders and many were saved.

The grace of our God and the presence of His glory filled the entire upper room providing them with a new level of faith that they didn’t have before. Immediately after being filled with the Holy Spirit Peter develops faith to stand in front of a crowd and deliver a full blown sermon. Not only did the Lord’s Spirit provide him with unbelievable power but He also gave him assurance that what he was saying was the truth of God.

The Holy Bible has many references of the Spirit of God working in the lives of believers both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. The difference is that the Lord’s Sprit could not dwell in someone until the finished work of our Savior Jesus Christ at the cross at Calvary. As Christians we need the power of the Holy Spirit working in us to build our faith and to give us the strength that we need to live victorious lives as believers over the power of Satan.

That is why Jude 1:20 tells us that we Must build our faith praying in the Holy Spirit. When those perfect prayers are sent to our Heavenly Father His will is done and He begins interceding in our situations. I know there have been times when I am praying in tongues and I can feel the Lord because the presence of His glory is undeniable. I know that He is working things out for my good, Romans 8:28.

Conclusion

Being baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking with other tongues is one of the best ways to build your faith. It allows you to pray the most perfect prayers to the Lord bypassing the interference of the devil and his demons. The fact of the matter is that the enemy is all around us just waiting to prevent us from progressing in the things of the Lord. Your prayer language is a powerful weapon against him.

The love of Christ afforded us to have this amazing free gift to help us build our faith in the fact that He is Who He says He is. It allows us to see His Word working in our lives because His promises will be revealed right before our eyes. The most important thing that you can do if you are ever in doubt about anything is to look to God’s Word. The need for praying in your Heavenly language is clear in Mark 16:17 when Jesus states, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues.”
