Positive Quote for the Week-Learn to Forgive
“When you begin to justify your unforgiveness, it is time to evaluate your heart!” Erica Willis
One of the worst things that you can do as a Christian is to harbor unforgiveness in your heart. It has so many repercussions attached to it that it is never worth it. Bitterness is one of the most common open doors that the enemy uses on believers of Jesus Christ over and over again. Why? He’s been using this same tactic for so long because it works.
All it takes is someone doing something to you that you deem unforgiveable and before you know it, you’ve built up anger, animosity, resentment, and eventually hate. These negative emotions will infiltrate your heart and have spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional ramifications that only get worse with time.
Without you even realizing it, you’ve allowed the enemy to build strongholds in your life that are not easy to overcome. How does he develop these strongholds in the first place? In order for the demonic realm to have the legal right to come into your life, they have to get you to break one of the Lord’s rules and regulations found in His Word.
So what they will do is look for opportunities like you having and argument with someone, and they will shoot fiery arrows at you mind to ensure that you remain in that state of offense. The moment that you attempt to get over being offended, they will send more thoughts at you to remind you of what they did to you so that it becomes difficult to forgive them.
That is why the Word of God tells us in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” We cannot afford to let any negative thoughts sent by the enemy take root.
The main takeaway from this quote is to make it a point to search your heart. Is there anyone that you need to truly forgive? Is there someone that the Holy Spirit continues to bring to your remembrance because there is still some residue that needs to be taken care of? If so, you need to try your very best to let it go. The consequences are just not worth it!
Some Scriptures that you can meditate on pertaining to unforgiveness are:
- Hebrews 12:15 “looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled.”
- Ephesians 4:31-32 “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”
- Matthew 6:15 “But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
- Ephesians 4:26-27 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.”
- Matthew 6:14 ““For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you”
- Galatians 6:1 “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.”
- 1 John 2:6 “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.”
- Colossians 3:13 “bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”
- Romans 12:19 “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
