Positive Thinking-

This Week’s Message: Make your relationship with the Holy Spirit a priority

The most underestimated and misunderstood Member of the Holy Trinity is the Holy Spirit. A lot of ministries and ministers don’t even acknowledge His significance or the many roles that He plays in every one of our lives. One of the worst things that you can do as a Christian is quench the Spirit of God, 1 Thessalonians 5:19.

I’ll have to admit, it was difficult for me to understand Who the Holy Spirit was and how necessary He was for me to grow and learn the things of the Lord. It wasn’t until I dug deep into the Scriptures and recognized the need to have an intimate relationship with Him that I was able to draw near to Him. The closer that I became to the Holy Spirit the more that I was able to understand, speak, and share the Gospel boldly!

We need the power of the Spirit of God to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives. He is the author (2 Timothy 3:16) and the interpreter (2 Peter 1:20-21) of the Lord’s Word. He is the One that will guide you into all truth, John 16:13. He is a vital part of our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. It is to our benefit that we make Him a priority in our lives.

He is the One that will give you the strength to overcome when you are dealing with adversity and opposition. The Word of God describes in Zechariah 4:6 “So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.” It is by the power of the Spirit of the living God that we receive supernatural strength.

When you feel like you are bound in an area in your life that you can’t seem to break free from, allow the Holy Spirit to transform you from the inside out. He is the One that will help you with the renewal of your mind that the Apostle Paul talks about in Romans 12:2. Like I always say in my positive message emails, it all begins with a mind-set that is what is going to set the tone and direction for your life.

This week take moments out of each day and dedicate extra time specifically for the Holy Spirit. Make Him a priority in your life, but don’t stop after this week. Continue on moving forward developing your relationship with the Spirit of God. You will begin to hear His voice more clearly, it will be easier to understand your Word, and your prayer life will significantly improve.

I am going to highlight some Scriptures that you can meditate on pertaining to the Spirit of God.

2 Corinthians 3:17

“Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

When we take a closer look at this verse of the Bible we can conclude that the Apostle Paul is letting us know that the Holy Spirit dwelling in the life of a believer provides us with freedom. Prior to Jesus Christ dying on the cross there was a veil that was separating us and God. Once Christ paid the sin penalty for all of humanity, the veil was completely torn in two allowing every believer to have access to the Lord, Matthew 27:51.

Now, every Christian has the ability to come to the throne room of God boldly, Hebrews 4:16. When we accept Jesus Christ into our hearts and minds, the veil is lifted from our eyes (2 Corinthians 3:16) allowing us to walk in boldness of speech, boldness in sharing the Gospel, and boldness when sharing our testimony. 2 Timothy 1:7 states, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Another word for fear in the verse of Scripture is timidity.

God did not save us so that we could walk around scared all the time: scared to proclaim His Name, scared to tell others about Who He is, or scared to set the captives free! His Spirit that lives on the inside of you will give you the ability to speak fearlessly! Never be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it is the Power of the Almighty God, 1 Corinthians 1:18!

John 14:26

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

John is reminding us in this Bible verse that the Holy Spirit is our Advocate which means: the Comforter, One Who pleads another’s cause before the Judge (God), an Intercessor, the One Who leads us into deeper knowledge of the Gospel, and many other functions. We can also see that He is the One that is going to teach us and remind us of things that the Lord has said.

How does God speak? The primary way that the Lord converses with His children is through His Word. That is why it is vital that we remain in or Bible daily, it is literally the bread of life, John 6:35. There is no way that the Holy Spirit is going to be able to bring Scripture to your remembrance if you have no Scriptural memory for Him to pull from. This is why a lot of Christians today are so Spiritually Anemic.

If you have been a believer of Jesus Christ for years but are still drinking milk out of a bottle (Hebrews 5:13) unable to digest solid food (Hebrews 5:14) there is a problem with your Spiritual maturity. We cannot forget the fact that the Lord wants us to study to show ourselves approved, 2 Timothy 2:15.

The Holy Spirit will be the One that will lead you out of infancy into maturity in Christ if you allow Him to. He cannot violate our free will so He can only work with us as much as we are willing to work with Him in shaping and molding our hearts and minds into the heart and mind of Christ.

Romans 5:5

“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

Here the Apostle Paul is speaking to the Church at Rome regarding one of the functions of the Spirit of God. He is the One that is going to pour God’s love into our hearts. This was critical for them to hear at that time as they had been facing warfare and tribulation. The two verses before this one explains, “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope, Romans 5:3-4.”

Everything that happens to a believer of Christ has a purpose whether we understand it or not. This includes the storms of life that you have faced and will face. We need to view them as ways that we can learn the lesson that God is teaching us, ways to build our character, and ways to build our faith in Christ.

God is absolute agape love, 1 John 4:8. Sometimes we don’t feel that way because of a situation that we are going through that is so traumatizing we can’t help but to feel like God has turned His back on us. That is when the Holy Spirit will begin to pour out the love of God on you reminding you that He will never leave you nor forsake you, Deuteronomy 31:8.

I know for me there have been times in my life that I am going through a circumstance and I feel like God is just not there, He’s not answering my prayers, or He’s not giving me direction. Regardless of how I am feeling in that moment I will go into prayer and the Holy Spirit will shower me with the love of God so tremendously that I can barely get myself off the ground. Tears flowing from my eyes uncontrollable and in that instant I am reminded of just how much God really loves me!

Use this week to rehash, rekindle, and re-evaluate your relationship with the Spirit of the living God. He is such an important key to living a life of freedom, peace, and joy. He cannot be underestimated so I encourage you to strengthen your intimacy with the Holy Spirit and watch how He moves in your life.
