Why the Cross of Christ is so significant!

He Is Risen!

When you think of Christ you can’t help but to think of His absolute (Agape) Love. He loved us so much that He was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice by laying down His life so that He could pay for the penalty of our sins.

But there is so much more to the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection, below I am going to name a few:

  • Salvation
  • We now have direct access to the presence of God
  • We now have the power to overcome Satan
  • We have the Blessing of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends,” John 15:13. Breaking down this scripture we have to recognize the fact that there is no love that can surpass the love that the Lord has for us. He gave His life “just in case” you and I made the decision to invite Him into our hearts to rule and reign in our lives.

1. Salvation: So what exactly does Salvation mean? Salvation takes place when you confess with your mouth that you are a sinner and are in need of a Savior. It is imperative that you not only accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior but acknowledge that His death, burial, and resurrection completely paid for your sin debt in full allowing you to have the free gift of eternal life! If the Lord had not followed through with sacrificing His life for you and me, the result would have been everlasting separation from God. Now because of Christ we have hope that there is a life after this one for every believer, Jesus has already prepared a place for us, John 14:3. Make no mistake at all, there is only One Way to get to into heaven, One Way to have a relationship with the Heavenly Father, and One Way for salvation and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ, John 14:5-7.

A lot of people have their own interpretation of what it means to be saved. The bottom line is, you can’t just know who Jesus is, know of Jesus, or live through someone else’s relationship with Jesus. You have to have your own personal relationship with our Lord and Savior striving to obey His commandments becoming more like Him each and every day, John 14:15. This is why getting into the Word of God and prayer is so important; they are methods of communication with Christ. It’s about inviting him into every aspect of your life and making Him the focal point in everything that you do. He will never steer you in the wrong direction, He will never leave you when the storms of life flood in, and He will give you strength when you are weak, 2 Corinthians 12:8-9. There is no love that compares to the love that the Lord has for each and every one of us, it doesn’t get greater than laying down His life for us so that we can have the chance at eternal life, John 15:13.

2. We now have direct access to the presence of God: Before the Lord Jesus Christ died as the perfect Sacrifice for all sin, only the high priest had access to the Most Holy Place which was called the Holy of Holies. This was done once a year by the High Priest to make atonement for his sins and for the sins of others. The moment that Jesus died, the veil separating the rest of the temple and the Holy of Holies was completely torn in two, Matthew 27:50-51. What does this mean? What the ripping of the veil meant was that Jesus’s sacrifice was received as the perfect atonement for all sin resulting in direct access to God the Father through Jesus Christ.

The veil was a symbolic barrier between us and God due to the fact that our sins could not be fully removed by the animal sacrifices that were made daily and annually. Jesus Christ gave up His life for you and I so that we can have the ability to be cleansed of all sin, live eternally in Heaven with our Heavenly Father, and have a personal relationship with God. His death allows us the freedom to not only communicate with God but to have the liberty to approach the throne boldly, Hebrews 4:16. What a tremendous Blessing that can never be taken for granted!

3. We now have the power to overcome Satan: Prior to Jesus Christ dying for us on the cross, Satan was able to use sin as a device to keep every believer and nonbeliever bound and chained by the effects of their sin. Our biological sinful nature along with the enemy’s minions using sin as their weaponry against us made it impossible to overcome the strongholds that sin created. When Jesus died for us, He afforded us the power and authority to conquer our sins and the powers of darkness triumphing over the devil’s attempts at keeping us enslaved, Luke 10:19. The Lord removed the enemy’s most useful scheme which was the ability to point out the sin of every believer to our Heavenly Father day and night, Revelation 12:10. Satan wants nothing more than to prevent us from walking in the Purpose that the Lord has for our lives. That is why he was quick to point out our iniquities every chance that he could in an attempt to keep us separated from God the Father. His hope was and still is that he takes as many of us with him to the pit of hell as he possibly can. Jesus becoming the perfect Sacrifice paying for every sin that we had ever committed wiped our slate clean so to speak, Colossians 2:14. This was a devastating blow to Satan’s kingdom because what this did was disarm principalities and powers that were once trampling over us using sin as their definitive weapon. The enemy has been defeated so for those that believe in Christ what that does is gives us authority to overcome any ammunition that the devil tries to throw our way, Luke 10:19.

Now we can live a life of total freedom from all of the devastating ways that the devil loves to keep us bound, Romans 8:2.

For instance:

·         Anxiety

·         Fear

·         Depression

·         Hate

·         Rage

·         Envy

·         Jealousy

·         Anger

·         Alcoholism

·         Drug Addiction

These are only a few of the challenges that every person faces because of our sin nature in addition to the evil strategies that the enemy uses against us. The Word of God tells us not to be oblivious as to how the devil likes to sneak his way into our lives, 2 Corinthians 2:11. We are to remain vigilant (1 Peter 5:8), meaning that we want to make sure that we are watchful of the traps that the devil secretly places in attempts to distract you or stop you from walking in your Purpose. That is why it is so important that we don’t permit any open doors that will allow Satan to wreak havoc in our lives. You don’t have to tolerate the enemy paralyzing you mentally, spiritually, emotionally, or physically any longer because you have the ability to conquer Satan and his kingdom. Don’t ever underestimate the fact that the shed blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has set us free from sin having the ability to rule and control the life of the believer, Romans 8:1-2. Don’t you want to defeat the overwhelming effects of anxiety, fear, depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, etc.? It is crucial that we as Christians look to Christ for power, strength, guidance, and wisdom so that we can live our lives victoriously!

4. We have the access to the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us: Before the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit was only available to help the believer for a limited period of time. The Spirit of Truth was not allowed to dwell inside the believer until Christ made the absolute sacrifice by dying on the cross at Calvary, John 14:17. It wasn’t until he ascended to be with God the Father that the Holy Spirit was sent to help, guide, teach, and provide power in the life of every single believer, John 16:5-7. Another major role that the Spirit of God was to play was to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, John 16:8-10.

The Holy Spirit represents such a significant part in keeping us aligned with the Word of God by giving us direction when we are heading astray, giving us wisdom when we read God’s Word, and bringing scripture to our remembrance when we need it, John 14:26. Another essential role that the Spirit of the Lord plays is giving us power to speak boldly about Christ and what He has done for us as witnesses to others proclaiming our own testimonies, Acts 1:8. The power that the Holy Spirit provides for us is the same exact power that was able to raise Jesus from the dead, Ephesians 1:17-20. Can you imagine the things that you would be able to do for God’s Kingdom if you allowed the Spirit of God to completely move in your life with no restrictions!
