The Spiritual Laws of God-Restoration
What exactly does restoration mean?
When you think of the word restore you think of: being made new, repair, rebuilding, strengthening, and refining you into something better. That is exactly what the Lord is doing when He is restoring you.
The best verse of Scripture that will give you a solid understanding of the reason why we need restoration to begin with is in John 10:10. He writes, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
The primary goal of Satan and his demonic kingdom is to completely destroy every single one of us. He cannot stand the Lord’s human creation but he has a special hatred put aside specifically for Christians. Why? He hates us because he knows that a Christian that knows their authority in the Name of Jesus Christ is a threat to his kingdom, Luke 10:19.
He wants to steal God’s promises from you that are written in numerous Bible verses throughout His Word. He wants to kill your body by afflicting it with sickness, disease, mental illness, and addictions. He wants to destroy your destiny by making sure that you remain bound by sin and oppression so that you won’t be able to fulfill God’s plan for your life.
The second part of the verse of Scripture in John states, “…I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” The Lord is letting us know that He is Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God and the One that died on the cross for us so that we could have a long abundant life filled with love, joy, and peace of mind, Isaiah 26:3.
The Word of God tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” God’s will for every one of us is to live a life victoriously, in full restoration, and free from oppression at the hand of the enemy.
The problem is that we don’t follow God’s laws and guidelines on how we should live our lives as believers of the Lord Jesus Christ. By us failing to get into God’s Word, we don’t truly understand how the spiritual realm functions because of our lack of knowledge, Hosea 4:6. In order for us to gain the upper hand we have to learn how our adversary operates so that we can make sure that we are not ignorant of his devices, 2 Corinthians 2:11.
There are two spiritual kingdoms that exist: the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of the devil. Both kingdoms have to adhere to God’s spiritual law, rules, and regulations. Both kingdoms are highly structured and are run like a skilled military unit that you would see today. There are different levels and ranks in each kingdom.
A lot of people don’t even think that the enemy even exists so he is wreaking havoc in their lives undetected. We cannot underestimate the devil and his devices because he is powerful and within our own might there is no way that we can overcome his tactics. Most of the weapons that he forms against us are because of our intentional involvement in sin, Romans 6:23.
However, Satan is no match for God there is no comparison, he is a defeated foe. As Christians we have the power through the Holy Spirit and the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ to overcome anything and everything that the enemy will try to do against you, Luke 10:19. He that is in you will always be greater than he that is in the world, 1 John 4:4.
Don’t ever let the devil make you think that you cannot get out of the oppression that he has you tied up in. He is a liar and the father of lies, John 8:44. That is why it is so important that we have an understanding of the spiritual principles that the Lord gives us in both the Old Testament and the New Testament.
He gives them to us for our protection. I was one of those people that said I was a Christian but had no personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I thought the devil was just a made up fictional character that people used to talk about in church. Boy was I wrong! I opened up so many doors to the enemy that allowed him to have me so bound and oppressed that I didn’t know if I was going to make it out.
By the grace of God, I was able to get set free to share with others how they can prevent themselves from walking in the trap that I walked in, how they can get free, and stay free! In order for you to understand the spiritual laws of God you have to recognize that life is spiritual.
I am going to go over two of the spiritual laws of restoration that you can meditate on:
Joel 2:25-26
“So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you. You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, And praise the name of the Lord your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; And My people shall never be put to shame.”
Here we can see that the prophet Joel being led by the Spirit of God is breaking down a spiritual law regarding restoration to the children of Israel. The promise and decree that the Lord is making is letting them know that He will restore the years that the swarming locust, crawling, and consuming locusts has eaten.
There is a stipulation:
Joel 2:12-13 states, “Now, therefore,” says the Lord, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.”
In order for us to have the ability to receive full physical and spiritual restoration we have to repent. We need to turn away from the sin that we were living in and truly live for the Lord in Spirit and in truth, John 4:24. The primary reason that we want to divert from our wrong doings is because it causes a wedge between us and our Heavenly Father.
Another reason why we want to repent and turn away from any form of sin is because it opens up the door for the enemy to come into your life and destroy it. The reason that all of us need any kind of restoration in the first place is because of the damage that the devil has created in our lives over the years. He has been slowly deteriorating the lives of people since human history began with Adam and Eve in the garden.
He is no beginner at this, he has had thousands of years of practice to perfect his devices and he knows the spiritual laws of God extremely well. He knows what he can get away with and what he can’t. He can’t just come into our lives forcefully, we have to open up a door and let him in giving him legal access. The quickest way that he gains an entryway is through some form of sin.
God’s love does not wish that any human being should perish but wants us all to have an eternal life in His Kingdom, 2 Peter 3:9. The fact is that He takes His Word very seriously so much so that He puts it even above His own Name, Psalm 138:2. His rules and regulations are set in place for a purpose and they cannot be changed or altered. So when He gives us the principles that we are to follow, He wants us to adhere to them for a reason.
You have to imagine yourself being in front of a judge in a court of law. The first thing that the judge is going to look at is the evidence: did you do it or not? You have the devil on one side accusing you (Revelation 12:10) and your Advocate Jesus Christ (1 John 2:1-2) speaking on your behalf. If you are found guilty, you have to deal with the repercussions of your actions there is no in between.
It is the same scenario when you break the spiritual rules and regulations that the Lord has declared and decreed all throughout the Bible. The good news is that the God of all grace, love, and mercy makes a promise to us that He will restore every bit of what the devil has stolen from our lives, if we are willing to repent and live for Him with our entire heart.
We will still fall short because we are human and will make mistakes, but the difference is when you love the Lord with all of your heart, you won’t want to do anything that is going to get in the way of that. Our own actions are what will determine the outcome of our lives. We can either live a life in abundance, or we can live a life of lack with continual struggles: mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The choice will always be yours!
Proverbs 11:31
“If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth, How much more the ungodly and the sinner.”
Here we can see that King Solomon is giving us one of his many inspirational nuggets out of the book of Proverbs. The words used here “will be recompensed” is the Hebrew word “shâlam” meaning to repay, restore, or restitution. The stipulation that is attached to this promise of recompense is the word righteous or in right standing with God. The only way that we are able to live a life of righteousness is through the righteousness of Jesus Christ and the continual washing of our sins by the Holy Spirit.
As a Christian, you want to strive to live your daily life according to the Lord’s Word to the best of your ability. This amazing promise given by the grace of God is truly an amazing one. I am living proof of the way that the Lord can restore, renew, rejuvenate, and give you back what the devil stole from you and then some!
When I was living for the world instead of for Jesus Christ, I experienced some extreme trials and tribulations that I wouldn’t wish upon anyone! I never thought that I was ever going to get out of the demonic pit that I was in, but God is so faithful!
Now let’s break down the second part of this verse, “…How much more the ungodly and the sinner.” Have you ever taken a step back and been in complete amazement at how a person that is committing every sin that you can think of continues to get blessed left and right?
God is making it very clear in this last part of this verse of Scripture, the ungodly are going to have a payment coming to them which is going to completely outweigh the blessings that He is giving His children. This goes back to the spiritual law of reaping and sowing, God is never going to be mocked; every person in this world will receive back every bit of what was given.
I go over some the spiritual law of sowing and reaping in my article: The Spiritual Laws of God-The General Principles.
You want to be one of the ones that are on the receiving end of a blessing and not the other way around. I know for me, when I was living in full out sin I never really thought twice about the repercussions of them. I learned some of the most difficult lessons that I would ever have to learn because of reaping what I had sown. I realize that the Lord had to take me through that season so that I would come to truly know Him. I wouldn’t change my relationship with Him for anything in the world.
The gospel message of our Lord Jesus Christ is meant to help us turn from our wicked ways and live our lives for Him. He wants every single one of us to be with Him in eternal glory but He can’t force us to, He created us with a free will. He died on the cross at Calvary for our “just in case.” Just in case we choose to love Him back, just in case we choose to live for Him, just in case we choose a life in eternity with Him. I’ll tell you one thing, choosing Him has been the best decision that I have ever made!
Conclusion
God is in the business of restoration. He wants to restore you mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally but in order for Him to do that we have to be willing to make significant changes in our lives. He cannot go against His own principles and guidelines that He set in motion for all of us to follow.
That is why it is so important that we open the Word of God for ourselves, study it, meditate on it, and allow it to marinate in your heart and mind. Your double-edged Sword is more powerful than you think and the more that you use it the more weaponry you will have stored up against the devil’s attacks.
Jesus Christ Himself used the Word of God to combat the tactics of Satan (Matthew 4:10) so how much more do we need our living Sword? I wish that I knew back then what I know now in regards to spiritual warfare and how the spiritual realm operates because I wouldn’t have gotten myself as bound as I was. It would have saved me years of oppression.
With the guiding and leading of the Holy Spirit, He taught me how to fight the enemy back with nothing but my Sword. Now completely free today I share my knowledge with as many people that I can to make them aware of the schemes and the snares that the devil uses. One thing that I learned the hard way is that he doesn’t ever and I mean ever, play fair!
