Positive Quote for the Week-The importance of renouncing

“It is one thing to turn away from your wicked ways, but it’s also important to verbally detach yourself to all agreements you’ve made with the enemy!” Erica Willis

To renounce in simple terms really just means to give up, refuse, or resign usually by formal declaration. In other words you are coming out of agreement with something that is giving the devil and his demonic kingdom a legal right into your life.

We have to remember that life and death is in the power of your tongue, Proverbs 18:21. By you verbally breaking the binding contract that the enemy had over your life, you are breaking his power and attachment to it. It’s you saying that you no longer want to have anything to do with the iniquity that you or your family members were involved in that gave him the legal access into your life.

You are completely detaching yourself from anything that is ungodly. You are divorcing it verbally by renouncing your involvement with it and washing your hands from it. You want to make sure that you have first confessed your sins before the Lord and repented of them with a sincere and repentant heart.

What that does is say to the devil you no longer have a foothold or “place” in my life and you need to go! The Word of God tells us if we resist the devil he will flee (James 4:7) but the first part of that Scripture states that we must first submit to God. That is the part that a lot of people look past! We have to live a life of obedience to the Word of God which prevents the enemy from having an open door to come into your life.

Scriptures on renouncing

2 Corinthians 4:2 “But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”

Titus 2:12 “Training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.”

2 Timothy 2:19 “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
