He that is in You is Greater-He gives you the Power to be a witness!
At the moment of Salvation, the free gift of the Holy Spirit comes and resides inside of you making your body the temple where He dwells, 1 Corinthians 3:16. One of the functions of the Spirit of God is to give every believer the power to be a witness for Jesus Christ. The reason why this is so significant is because the Lord gave us a commandment before ascended to be with the Father called the “Great Commission.”
Matthew 28:19-20 details, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” Here we can see that the Lord commands us to preach the Gospel to every person that we come across. Jesus knew that we would need to have the ability to proclaim His Word with boldness and that is why He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit.
There are a lot of Christians that hesitate to share with others that they are believers of Jesus Christ. Often times, it has to do with fear of what they may think or how they may view you, it can be because a person is naturally an introvert (timid or shy), or it can be that a person doesn’t feel like they know enough about God’s Word to share it with those around them.
Either way that we look at it, Jesus is very clear that He commands all believers to be a witness for Him spreading His Word. 2 Timothy 1:7 declares, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” The Spirit of God is Bold, Fierce, Powerful, and Confident. When we exhibit those contrary emotions like being scared, fearful, or timid then we know those feelings are not coming from the Lord but from the enemy.
The last thing that the devil wants is more on fire believers speaking the Scriptures with Power. He will stop at nothing to silence our voice and will use any tactic necessary to stop the Word of God from being declared. I remember when I first became a believer and started sharing my faith with the people around me, it was awkward and very uncomfortable if I’m being honest. The Holy Spirit had to encourage me and give me the power within me to share my Faith unapologetically.
Whether we know it or not, we are in a daily spiritual battle with a powerful adversary and his demonic kingdom. The ultimate battle is for souls: the Kingdom of God vs. the kingdom of darkness and they are fighting for the same thing with different outcomes. God promises peace, love, joy, and eternal life while the devil wants us to join him in hell, with an eternal death, and complete destruction.
The unfortunate thing is that a lot of people that are lost are: friends, family members, loved ones, neighbors, etc. Let us begin to share with others who Jesus is to us and why a relationship with Him is EVERYTHING. We don’t need to have a Theological Degree or have the Bible memorized because we have the Power of the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us and He will help us be a witness for Christ with boldness and love!
Let’s take a look at a passage of Scripture that dictates that fact.
Acts 1:8
” But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Before we can break down this passage of Scripture, we need to understand the passages that came before this one. Acts 1:4 discloses, “And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me.”
What can determine from this verse of scripture is that Jesus is expecting His disciples to remain in Jerusalem until they received the promise of the Holy Spirit. Why did Jesus think that being filled with the Spirit of God was so important? He knew that the “Power within”, which is the Holy Spirit, was needed so that we can be a powerful witness for Christ.
That kind of power will turn a timid and shy person into a bold and courageous proclaimer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We can see this very thing happen with Jesus’ disciple Peter. When the Lord was captured and taken away to be executed, Peter denied Him three times because of the fear that he had that the Jews would also execute him. Then, in Acts 2:14-39 right after being baptized with the Holy Spirit, he stands in front of an entire crowd with boldness and unapologetically preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
So, what was the difference? The difference was that before Jesus died on the cross at Calvary and rose again, they hadn’t received the promised gift of the baptism of God’s Spirit. Once Peter was endued with Power from on high, he was able to preach the Word of God with fire! That is exactly what the Holy Spirit does for us, He gives us the courage to be a witness for the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
It may feel uncomfortable to tell others about the Lord and what He did for you, but it is very necessary. Share your testimony, share what you know from the Scriptures, share that the free gift of Salvation is for every person. You don’t have to be a Theologian to spread the Gospel, you just have to be a willing vessel, and He will use you!
Conclusion:
We are living in very uncertain times right now and things are so unpredictable. We really don’t know what tomorrow will bring. What we do know is that there are still so many souls that the Lord Jesus Christ wants to save. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
The Lord does not want anyone to go the lake of fire eternally separated from Him. That is why He provided us with the gift of the Holy Spirit that will give us the Power to be a witness for Him to as many people as we possibly can. Never be afraid to proclaim the Name of Jesus Christ spreading and sharing His amazing love, mercy, and grace!
