He that is in You is Greater-He gives you the Power to have hope
The “He” spoken of by the Lord in 1 John 4:4 is pertaining to the Holy Spirit, one of the most underestimated parts of the God head or the Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit). The moment that a believer gives their life to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes in and dwells inside of you, John 14:17.
He is such a critical part in every believer’s life that the Lord Jesus Christ made it a point to let us know that we absolutely need Him to live victoriously. John 16:7 details, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” The Lord knew that we would need our Helper (John 16:13) to guide us and lead us into absolute truth.
He is the One that will give us strength and empower us when the enemy comes in like a flood (Isaiah 59:19) and will bring Scriptures to our remembrance when we need them the most, John 14:26. It is necessary that we fully understand the role that the Holy Spirit plays in our daily lives. He is gentle like a dove and has a still small voice that will convict you of sin when you’re veering off track!
He will also fill you with hope when you feel like your circumstance or situation is beyond repair! 2 Timothy 1:7 reveals, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” The Lord gave us His Spirit which will give us power and a sound mind (self-control). What that does is prevents us from being filled with fear and worry about what tomorrow will bring.
When you have the ability to walk by faith and not by sight, you know that the Lord is going to work EVERYTHING out for your good, Romans 8:28. Regardless of what things look like around you, God’s Word always has the final say. We often forget that when He died on the cross, He stated that it was finished!
What that meant is that Christ paid the sin debt in full, shed His blood for every sickness or disease that we are faced with, and overcame the devil and his entire kingdom. He took care of every need that we ever had and will have now and in the future. It is now up to us whether we choose to believe the Scriptures and by faith apply them accordingly! This may not be the easiest thing to do especially when you are right in the middle of the storm!
The Holy Spirit will help us navigate through those moments when things seem so impossible that it threatens our faith. He provides us with the hope that we need to continue pressing forward despite what we are facing. The hope that the power of the Holy Spirit gives us is feeling certain that God is always there and will never leave us nor forsake us no matter what, Deuteronomy 31:6.
Let’s take a look at a passage of Scripture that reveals to us the amazing hope that “He” that is within every believer provides us with!
Romans 15:13
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
In order to put this Scripture into proper context we need to take a look at the passage prior to this one. Romans 15:12 details, “And again, Isaiah says: “There shall be a root of Jesse; and He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles,
In Him the Gentiles shall hope.” Paul is explaining to the Gentile nations that the Lord Jesus Christ didn’t just die on the cross for the Jewish nations but for them as well.
If they choose to accept Him as their Lord and Savior, then they can also have hope of eternal security and salvation. This was a difficult thing for the Gentile nations to wrap their heads around because it was not taught when Jesus was walking among them, Matthew 10:5-6. The Lord’s mission was to first save the Jews and reveal to them that He indeed was their Messiah.
So, when Paul came on the scene claiming that Gentiles could be saved just as much as Jews were, they had trouble believing it. That is where the Power of the Holy Spirit comes into play. In the primary verse of Scripture, we can see that Paul is disclosing to the Gentiles that the “He” that is within them will fill them with hope, joy, peace, and belief.
The enemy loves to take any doubt or skepticism that we have and exacerbate it! Paul wanted to assure them that they were just as entitled to receive Salvation as any Jew was. Not only were they eligible for Salvation but they were more than qualified to receive everything that comes with being a believer of Christ. Some of those promises are: health, healing, deliverance, freedom, protection, provision, salvation, eternal life, etc. Then Paul discloses some of the fruits of the spirit that we should expect to partake in like joy and peace!
Let’s break down the main passage of Scripture a little further so that we can have a clear understanding. The words “of hope” being used is the Greek word “elpis” which means: expectation of good, hope, joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation. The words “may abound” being used is the Greek word “perisseuō” which means: to be great, when a thing comes in abundance or overflows.
The words “the power” being used is the Greek word “dynamis” which means: under or full of the power of the Holy Spirit. So, when we piece all of this together, we can determine that Paul is disclosing to us that through the power of the Holy Spirit we can have the confident expectation of eternal salvation. Not only does the Lord give us life but He gives us life abundantly, John 10:10.
The Holy Spirit provides us with His fruit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control, Galatians 5:22-23. If you don’t feel like you are producing the fruit of God’s Spirit, ask the Lord to help you in those areas. As believers of Jesus Christ, we should be living a life of love, peace, etc. Do not let the enemy rob you of truly living each day waking up with the joy of the Lord.
He loves to plant seeds in your head making you believe that sickness, disease, oppression, depression, infirmity, and poverty is our portion. The devil is a liar and the father of lies! God promises us life and life in abundance. When Jesus died on the cross at Calvary and declared it was “finished” that is exactly what He meant.
Everything that we will ever need has already been provided for us, we just have to reach out and grab it by faith! The Holy Spirit will give you the hope that you need to be able to victoriously succeed as you walk with the Lord Jesus Christ! He that is in you will always be greater than he that is in this world!
Conclusion:
The Lord reveals to us over and over again throughout the Scriptures the important role that the Holy Spirit plays in our lives. He is the “He” that is greater than he that is in this world! He is the One that will guide us and lead us into all Truth. He will bring Scriptures when we need them to fight against the schemes of the enemy!
Through the Power of the Holy Spirit, we are provided with hope in the midst of the trials and tribulations of life. He reassures believers that we have eternal security and Salvation is our portion. Just like the Gentiles doubted the fact that they could partake in the fee gift of Salvation, we sometimes forget that we belong to the One and only True God and there is nothing that the devil can do to take that away from us, Romans 8:31-39!
