He that is in you is Greater-He provides you with Liberty

He that is in You is Greater-He provides you with Liberty

The “He” that is in you that is greater than the he that is in this world is the Holy Spirit. He is the One that is dwelling on the inside of every believer of Jesus Christ empowering us to live a victorious Christian life! It is so important that we fully understand the many roles that He plays, especially when it comes to overcoming the schemes and the wiles of the devil and his demonic kingdom.

One of the greatest lies that the enemy tries to make believers and non-believers fall for is that he doesn’t exist. That is very far from the case! In fact, he is a very powerful militant adversary that cannot be defeated within our own strength. However, the He that is living on the inside of every Christian is more powerful than any demon, principality, or power straight from the pits of hell!

The devil would love to remain undetected so that he can continue wreaking havoc in every one of our lives. That is why the Lord made it clear in Hosea 4:6 when it states, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” 2 Corinthians 2:11 also discloses, “lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.”

We cannot remain bound and chained up at the hands of the enemy because we are ignorant of all of his devices! The Lord gave is His Word paired with the Holy Spirit Who was sent to us to guide us into absolute Truth, John 16:13. He is our Helper, the One that discloses the tactics of the devil preventing us from walking into landmines blinded.

Unfortunately, a lot of us remain shackled facing all kinds of diseases, sicknesses, oppression, depression, and everything in between. Not today Satan! You need to take your authority in Christ that Jesus died for us to have and let the devil know that he cannot have you or yours and his lies and tactics end TODAY!

One of the biggest misconceptions is that the devil has authority on the Earth to do to us whatever he pleases. That is very far from the truth and we can see that revealed to us in Luke 10:19 when the Lord states, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Jesus is disclosing some powerful revelation in this passage of Scripture. He is letting us know that the devil has power, but Christ has given us authority over all of his power and nothing he does can harm us! That is an important Truth! So, when the devil whispers lies in your ear, remind him that he is a defeated foe and his destiny has already been sealed.

He cannot keep a born-again believer that is living upright in the eyes of God in bondage. One of the worst feelings in the world for a Christian is having the free gift of Salvation but not feeling completely set free! One of the roles of the Spirit of God is to bring forth Freedom: physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally! We have to keep in mind that there is nothing too hard for our God!

Let’s take a closer look at the passage of Scripture that discloses the freedom/liberty that the Holy Spirit provides us with.

2 Corinthians 3:17

“Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

A little background leading up to this passage of Scripture, the Apostle Paul is explaining to the Church at Corinth the difference between the Old Covenant before Christ and the New Covenant found in Christ. The Old Covenant did not ensure eternal life for a believer of God because the Lord Jesus had not paid for the sin debt for humanity. What it did was provided the children of God with temporary covering of sin through animal sacrifices.

Now that Christ died on the cross at Calvary and paid for our sins: past, present, and future, we are afforded the free gift of Salvation and the Holy Spirit. Paul is revealing to us that the Spirit of God that lives on the inside of a believer of Christ empowers us to transform our lives from the inside out. What that does is close the doors that were opened to the enemy through willful sin.

The word “liberty” being used in the primary text of Scripture is the Greek word “eleutheria” which means: liberty to do or to omit things having no relation to salvation and freedom from the dominion of corrupt desires, so that we do by the free impulse of the soul what the will of God requires. What a powerful revelation that the Apostle Paul is disclosing to us.

We can never forget that the devil was wreaking havoc on the children of God because of the sin that was introduced through Adam, Genesis 3. After that moment sin ran rampant in the lives of God’s children with only moments of temporary relief. Remember, demons were not being cast out of believers and did not get cast out until Jesus came on the scene, Matthew 8:16.

The reason for this is because the Lord Jesus Christ had not died on the cross at Calvary, therefore the sin debt had not been paid giving the devil legal access to the children of God. However, that definitely changed once Christ rose from the dead on the third day and declared “It is finished.”

Colossians 2:15 is one of the most potent verses of Scripture and it declares, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” What the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ did was put the devil in check letting him know that believers of Christ now have all authority and power over him and his entire demonic kingdom. Not only that, but Jesus gave us the Power of His Holy Spirit!

Freedom before the death of Christ vs. after

Before the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit fell upon God’s children for a moment but did not dwell within them.

For example:

1 Samuel 16:13 “Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.”

Judges 14:6 “And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.”

Numbers 11:25 “Then the Lord came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders; and it happened, when the Spirit rested upon them, that they prophesied, although they never did so again.”

Here are a few examples of when the Spirit of God wanted to work through God’s children, he came “upon” them but never once do you see where He lived and dwelled in them. However, that did not mean that the Lord’s Spirit did not do mighty things even in the Old Testament.

One of those examples is when King Saul was being tormented by demonic spirits so much so that he could not sleep or have any peace. So, he called for David, who was young at the time, to play the harp for him. The anointing that was on the music that David was playing was so powerful that it would drive the demonic spirit away from King Saul, but only for a short period of time, 1 Samuel 16:14-23.

There was no such thing as casting out a demon in the Old Testament. That is why born-again believers of Jesus Christ are such a force to the powers of darkness. We actually have the ability to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out demons, Matthew 10:8.

Now, Let’s compare how the Holy Spirit provides Christians with freedom and liberty after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ!

Galatians 5:1 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”

Romans 8:1-2There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”

John 8:36 “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

Isaiah 53:5 “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

We can see such a significant difference from these passages of Scripture before Christ vs. the passages of Scripture after the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. They are coming from a place of victory and not of defeat! Christians have the ability to heal the sick and cast out demons which in turn provides believers with freedom that was not available to us before Christ.

We cannot underestimate the Power of the Holy Spirit that lives on the inside of every believer! He allows us to have liberty from the chains and shackles that the devil kept God’s children in for so long. We need to make it a priority to understand the devil’s tactics and learn how to walk in the authority that Jesus died for us to have.

The devil is on a mission, and his number one target is our children, and he is not playing any games, stopping at nothing to fulfill his purpose. But you know what, God is not playing games either and He most definitely does not play when it comes to His little ones! He will show up and show out for every person that calls upon His Name! Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is FREEDOM!

Conclusion:

We have such a significant advantage when it comes to living a life of freedom from the bondage of the enemy. The same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is living on the inside of every believer of Christ, Romans 8:11. He empowers us to live a life upright in the eyes of the Lord, closing the door to willful sin and the bondage that comes with it.

The children of God that lived in the Old Testament era could only dream of having such a powerful weapon in their armory, but they didn’t. They had to live with the dominant strongholds that the devil had them in with no permanent escape. We are so blessed to have the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling on the inside of every Christian providing us with freedom and liberty beyond comprehension!
