Why Your Mountain Won’t Move-you doubt God’s Will

Are You willing?

As believers of Christ, we know the Power of God is real especially if you have been a Christian for a period of time and have seen Him moving in your life. So, why is it so difficult for us to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Lord can move any mountain or obstacle out of the way? A lot of times we struggle with believing that God will show up on the more challenging problems that we face because of the severity of them.

We say that God is a “Way Maker,” a “Promise Keeper,” the One that makes a way where there seems to be no way, but do we truly believe it? When it comes to situations like: a cancer diagnosis, loss of a job, a negative report from the doctor, generational curses like barrenness, divorce, etc., we tend to find it more difficult to truly believe that the Lord will come through.

I would often hear people say that maybe a person is going through the sickness, disease, or misfortune because it’s just the cross that they have to bear or that it just “runs in the family.” While the rain does fall on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45), and the Lord uses Trials and tribulations to test our faith (James 1:2-4), that does not mean that the Lord won’t deliver you from them. When God told us to say to the mountain to move and it will move, He wasn’t just saying it, He meant it!

As we move onto the next level of our faith and belief in Christ, our faith will need to be tested. That is when the Lord might use a circumstance to see if you trust Him enough to believe that He will bring you out of it. Never once did He say that you have to remain afflicted in fact Psalm 34:19 reveals to us, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

The key word that we need to highlight here is the word ALL, not some of the afflictions but God delivers us from all of them. The difference between a non-believer and a believer regarding the storms of life is the fact that we have the Power of the Lord fighting with us standing in the fire like He did with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Daniel 3:24-25!

We need to get into the habit of magnifying the Lord when we are going though trying times instead of enlarging our mountains! Psalm 34:3 discloses, “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.” There is nothing more powerful than lifting up the Name of the Lord when you are really going through it! Praise confuses the enemy and is actually a warfare weapon, 2 Chronicles 20:22.

God is very clear when He lets us know that there is nothing impossible for Him, Luke 1:37. We see this passage of Scripture, but do we really believe it? Fear is one of the greatest tactics of the enemy. When you receive that doctor’s report, the devil will use fear to make you come into agreement with his lies instead of standing on the Truth found in God’s Word. You have to make the decision: either you believe the Lord’s Word at face value, or you don’t.

Let’s take a look at a passage of Scripture that reveals to us whether or not the Lord is willing to intercede in our circumstances.

Matthew 8:2-3

“And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.”

Here we can see firsthand a situation where a man filled with leprosy came to worship Jesus and asked Him if He was willing to make him clean. So, what did he mean by “make him clean?” Back in those times leprosy was one of the most grotesque diseases that there was: it was a skin condition that produced white or reddish scabs, sores, and rashes.

Not only that, but a person that had leprosy was considered to be unclean separated from the community. They had to live outside of camp and shout out to let others know that they were unclean. Only a priest could examine them and determine whether they were clean or unclean. That was why the man asked Jesus (our High Priest) if He was willing to make him clean.

Notice that there was no doubt that Jesus actually could, but the doubt was whether or not Jesus was willing. The same thing happens with us, we know that God will handle the small things like getting over a cold, but we question whether the Lord would take care of the mountains in our lives like: death sentences, mental illness, the sicknesses that are incurable, etc.

What we do know is that God is not a man that lies as it is detailed in Numbers 23:19, and it states, “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” In those moments of doubt and unbelief when we are not sure if the Lord is willing, we need to meditate on this verse.

If it is found in His Word, then it is His will for our lives. One thing that we can never forget is that Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, Hebrews 13:8. If He was more than willing to cleanse the Leper from the leprosy, then He will heal you and help you overcome anything that the enemy is trying to keep you bound with!

What helps us when the devil and his kingdom try to keep us bound?

Build on the Firm Foundation

One key thing to remember when taking authority over your mountain and preventing the enemy from keeping you bound is knowing your authority in Christ. This requires you to build your firm foundation on the ROCK of Christ. What does that actually look like?

Matthew 7:24-25 breaks it down perfectly as Jesus states, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”

So much to unpack out of these powerful verses of Scripture. What we can determine is that Jesus is letting us know that if you are a wise person, you will abide by the words that He says particularly when it comes to living a life upright in the eyes of God. The outcome of living in obedience is revealed to us: when the storms of life hit (because they will) you will not be moved, you will not be shaken because your foundation is standing on the ROCK of Jesus Christ.

You will be able to stand boldly and say to your mountain “Move and get out of the way” regardless of what things around you look like! It really boils down to your faith and proclaiming the Word of God over your circumstance. Isaiah 53:5 tells us that Jesus Christ was wounded and by His stripes we ARE healed. 1 Peter 2:24 discloses that the Lord Jesus bore our sins on His body and by His stripes we WERE healed, past tense.

These are just two examples of healing Scriptures that you can mediate on when the enemy attempts to afflict your body with sickness and disease. The Lord has a verse that you can use tailor made to destroy and tear down any mountain that you are facing. Proclaim them and truly believe them and get them engrained into your heart and mind until you see your Mountain begin to shift and eventually move!

Conclusion:

One definitive reason why your mountain just will not move is because you don’t really believe that God is willing to move it. Sure, He has come through on the little things in your life, but when it comes to something massive, big, and colossal, you struggle to have the faith to believe that the Lord will intercede. We have to know that God’s will for us is to have a future and a hope, Jeremiah 29:11.

Anything outside of that is not the Lord’s intention for us. We know that the enemy’s plans for us are to kill, steal, and destroy us by any means necessary, John 10:10. That includes having us come into agreement with the lies that he shoots at our minds which eventually turn into mountains. That is when we take our authority in Christ and tell every obstacle to move and get out of our way!
