Why Your Mountain Won’t Move-your Mountain is Magnified
One of the greatest hindrances to your mountain (obstacle) not moving is not fully believing that the Lord is greater than any struggle, sickness, disease, etc. that is standing in your way. We often say that “there is nothing too hard for God,” but do we truly believe that in our hearts? When the Lord revealed to us in Luke 1:37, “For with God nothing will be impossible.” That is exactly what He meant.
So, why do we find ourselves magnifying our mountains instead of magnifying the Lord? It really goes back to the parable that Jesus teaches us regarding the Sower found in Matthew 13:3-9. The type of ground that I want to highlight from this parable is stony ground, let’s take a look at the explanation that Jesus gives us regarding stony ground.
Matthew 13:20-21 details, “But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.” Jesus gives us the perfect description of why we don’t believe that God can move our mountain.
When we don’t have His Word rooted and planted in our hearts and minds, the trials and tribulations of life will cause us to stumble. That word “stumble” being used means: to cause a person to begin to distrust and desert One whom he ought to trust and obey, causing that person to fall away. In other words, your lack of Faith in Christ allows your mountain (obstacle) to doubt Him.
The bigger the mountain the bigger your doubt seems to become! That is exactly what the enemy wants to happen. That is why it seems like you get thrown one storm after another and after another. He knows that if he can get you to distrust the Lord, then he has you right where you wants you…bound!
During our storms we need to get into the habit of magnifying the Name of the Lord more than we magnify our problems. Psalm 69:30 gives us the example of what we need to be doing, and it states, “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving.” In this Psalm we can see that David is letting us know that one way to magnify the Lord is by thanking Him.
What has He done in your life? How many times has He brought you out of a pit that you were in when there seemed to be no way out? The very fact that each one of us has breath in our bodies is a Blessing all by itself and we need to thank Him for it, daily! As you begin to praise His Name and list out all of the amazing ways that He has shown up in your life, your mountain will begin to seem insignificant.
The fact remains, if He did it before, He will do it again! You have to believe that He is not a Man that would lie, if He said it, He will do it, Numbers 23:19. Whatever you are facing regardless of how great it may seem is no problem for the Lord. We serve a Big God that loves every single one of His children and will come through on His promises.
What does God have to say about our mountain? Let’s take a look at the very passage of Scripture that discloses to us exactly what the Lord has to say about the Mountain that is in our way!
Zechariah 4:7
“Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!…”
Before we dive into this powerful verse of Scripture let’s take a look at what was going on leading up to this verse. Zechariah was given a vision to interpret to Zerubbabel regarding finishing the temple which was his responsibility as the civic leader of Jerusalem. However, Zerubbabel faced obstacles and oppositions left and right. So much so that he actually needed some kind of encouragement to keep pressing on.
These words of encouragement are found in Zechariah 4:6 and it states, “So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah is given a word from the Lord that the obstacle (mountain) that Zerubbabel was facing was not going to be conquered within his own might, but it would require the Power of God’s Spirit to intervene.
Now back to our primary passage of Scripture found in Zechariah 4:7 which reveals to us exactly what the Lord has to say regarding Zerubbabel’s mountain. God states, “Who are you, O great mountain…” meaning how big can your mountain possibly be compared to God? There isn’t even a comparison! Then the Lord discloses what is about to happen to Zerubbabel’s mountain, “…you shall become a plain!”
The words “a plain” being used is the Hebrew word “mîšôr” which means: a level place. So, not only will the Lord help you conquer whatever mountain that you are up against, but He will level it! It doesn’t get any clearer than that. Another key aspect of this circumstance surrounding Zerubbabel that we need to look at is the fact that he could not do it on his own, but He needed the Holy Spriit to help him.
How many times have we been caught up in a sticky situation or a life-threatening circumstance and we call on everybody that we know before consulting with the Lord. We’ll even “google” our scenario before we get on our faces and ask God for guidance. Never forget that the Holy Spirit is our Helper (John 16:13) guiding us into all Truth. He will help you in times of need giving you the Power to tear down your mountain.
One of the most important things as a believer of Christ is that you have to have the Word of God so rooted in you that you are unmovable. That way when the mountains in your life begin to form (because they will) you will be able to stand firm and say to your mountain to MOVE and get out of the way!
Here are some examples of passages of Scripture that you can proclaim when overcoming a particular obstacle in your life.
Move that Mountain
Mountain of sickness and disease: Psalm 34:19 “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
You can say something like, “Lord your Word states in Psalm 34:19 that you deliver us out of all afflictions including all sicknesses and diseases and so I am commanding the mountain of sickness and disease that is in my way to MOVE.”
Mountain in your finances: Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
You can say something like, “Lord your Word states in Philippians 4:19 that You will supply all of my needs and so based off of your Word I am commanding the mountain that is attacking my finances to MOVE and get out of the way!”
Mountain of fear: 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
You can say something like, “Lord your Word states in 2 Timothy 1:7 that you have not given us the spirit of fear but of a sound mind. And so I am proclaiming that my mind is sound based on your Word and I am commanding the mountain of fear to MOVE and get out of my way.”
As you speak to your mountain as the Lord commands us to do in Mark 11:23 and you pair your words with the Scriptures and the Power of the Holy Spirit, your struggle does not stand a chance! Know that you have the authority in Christ to make whatever obstacle that are facing…MOVE! The enemy wants you to develop fear, doubt, worry, and unbelief because of how great your mountain is that you are overcoming, but the devil is a liar and the father of lies, John 8:44!
Begin to praise the Lord and make Him greater than what you are facing! Take your worry off of your problems and place them right in the hands of the Lord! God is so Faithful and I have seen Him move so many mountains out of my Way that there is no ounce of doubt in me. My faith continues to grow knowing that He can and will do it again!
Conclusion:
I’m not going to lie and act like the mountains (obstacles) in our lives aren’t a struggle to get through. Some of them are life-threatening and in those moments of life or death, it is very difficult for us to see a way out! We have to get to a place as believers of Christ that we know how big the God that we serve actually is!
Genesis 18:14 states it perfectly when the Lord declares, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” You need to take the Lord at His Word and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is NOTHING too hard for Him! He is the same God that help Noah build a massive Ark, allowed Sarah to have a child way past child barring age, and the same God that allowed His only Son to die on the cross for our sins! He IS a BIG GOD!
