He that is in You is Greater than he that is in the World

He that is in you is Greater!

So, what exactly does it mean by He that is in you in greater?

In order to have an idea of what it means when the Lord states, He that is in you is greater we need to have an understanding of Who “He” actually is. We can determine from many passages of Scripture Who the Lord was referencing when He said “He.”

For instance, Acts 2:38 reveals “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

What we can decipher from this passage of Scripture is the fact that the Holy Spirit is a free gift given to every believer of Jesus Christ. The Lord died for the entire sin debt of all humanity allowing us to receive Salvation as well as the Holy Spirit which will dwell in us, John 14:17.

The very moment that a person accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior we receive the Helper which is the Spirit of God (John 14:26) He will guide us into absolute Truth, John 16:13. He is the One that makes sure that we get put back on the right path when we start veering off track.

Another key role that the Holy Spirit plays in the life of the believer is giving us the Power that we need to overcome the schemes and the wiles of the devil. We often underestimate him and his demonic kingdom. Make no mistake about it, he is a very powerful adversary and within your own power you cannot defeat him. However, He that is living on the inside of you is greater and more powerful than any tactic of the enemy!

Let’s take a look at a passage of Scripture that testifies to this fact.

Ephesians 3:20

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

Here we can see that the Apostle Paul is disclosing some vital information. He is proclaiming that Jesus can do exceedingly above anything that we can possibly imagine. Then he gives us more knowledge when he states that it is through the power that works in us. What is the “power” that he is referring to?

The word “power” being used here is the Greek word “dynamis” which means: the divine power considered as acting upon the minds of men. In other words, it is the power of the Holy Spirit that lives on the inside of every single believer of Jesus Christ. Paul also gives us some clearer insight a little bit before this verse of Scripture.

He discloses in Ephesians 3:16, “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.” Paul is making it very clear to us that we are strengthened by the might of God’s Spirit which is the Holy Spirit living on the inside of every one that is a believer.

The reason why the Lord reveals to us the fact that we need to be strengthened and empowered is because we are facing a very powerful adversary that we cannot defeat on our own. Our daily fight is with the devil and his demonic kingdom, and they want to kill, steal and destroy every one of us any time they can, John 10:10. Luckily, we have the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead living inside of us, Romans 8:11. Now that is Power!

Now let’s take a look at the primary verse of Scripture that reveals to us that He that is in you will always be greater than he that is of this world!

1 John 4:4

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

Here we can see that the writer is giving us some powerful revelation when he reveals to us that He that is in us (Holy Spirit) is greater than the devil and his entire demonic kingdom. The reason that the writer of this book is driving this point home to us is because of the fact that we are facing a very potent opponent that will stop at nothing to ensure our destruction, John 10:10.

The reason why his tactics work is because we forget our authority in Christ. He has given us the keys to the kingdom (Matthew 16:19), He triumphed over the devil and his demons (Colossians 2:15), He gave us all authority over ALL the power of the enemy, Luke 10:19. So, why do we allow Satan to bully us, instill fear in our hearts, and torment our minds?

It truly boils down to the lack of faith in Jesus Christ and what He did for us at the cross at Calvary. 1 John 5:4 is very clear and it discloses, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” When you feel like your faith is wavering, doubt begins to creep in, and God’s Promises seem impossible, rely on the Holy Spirit (the He that is within you) because He will give you strength in moments of weakness.

Remember, when Jesus stated, “It is Finished” that is exactly what He meant. He died and rose from the dead fulfilling all the requirements needed to allow us to have the ability to be set free from the devil and every one of his tactics. Psalm 118:6 is the perfect reminder as David reflects, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” God is the only One that can establish where your soul will go the moment that you die, so allowing the devil to cause you to fear him should never be entertained.

The enemy has to gain the legal right to invade your space. He often obtains legal access because we come into agreement with his lies. The only thing that will ever combat lies is the Truth found in the Word of God. So, the next time that you’re faced with oppression, sickness, disease, and everything in between you need to come at the devil with “It is Written.”

Jesus battled the enemy with the Word, and we can see that played out in several passages of Scripture. If the Lord Himself came against Satan with the Scriptures, then why aren’t we? That is why the author of John is adamant about us understanding the Power that dwells on the inside of every believer of Jesus Christ!

Conclusion:

One of the tactics that the enemy loves using is making us believe that he has more power over us than he actually does. Unfortunately, believers don’t walk in the authority that Christ died for us to have. He that is in you is so much greater than the devil that is in the world. If we could get a hold of that truth, it would allow us to walk with a victorious frame of mind instead of a defeated one.

The Holy Spirit that dwells in every single believer is the One that gives us the strength to stand firm against the wiles of our adversary. One of the best ways that you can understand the Power that you have within you is to read your Word daily. You cannot fight a spiritual battle with a dull Sword; it must be sharpened daily!
