Positive Quote for the Week-Set Boundaries
“Don’t settle for less than you deserve, choose quality and set boundaries on what you allow in your life!” Erica Willis
There are a lot of instances in our lives where we have elected to settle. Whether it is in our relationships or in our friendships there is no reason that we should accept anything but quality. It really all boils down to what you allow. If you are in a relationship and you tolerate him or her treating you less than what you know you deserve, you can’t blame anyone but yourself.
You have to set the standard on how you want to be respected and cared for making sure to put your foot down if your partner decides to treat you otherwise. By presenting yourself with a high level of self-respect and dignity you are setting the bar for others. You cannot expect another person to treat you right if you don’t treat yourself with a level of self-esteem.
In terms of friendships, you have to be cautious who you allow in your circle. Not everyone that calls you a friend is actually for you. Unfortunately, there are many people that befriend you so they can see what they can gain from you, hide behind the scenes waiting for you to fail so they can slide right in, or even get personal information so they can talk about you behind your back.
Make it a point to keep the same mindset that you would when choosing a life partner. Just as easily as you can get burned from your significant other, the same thing can happen with the person that you call “your friend.” All you really have to do is know your standards and be unwilling to change them for anyone. Keep your circle small and sweet making the conscious decision to pick quality over quantity.
Scriptures regarding quality friendships
Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”
1 Corinthians 15:33 “Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
Colossians 3:13 “Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”
Ecclesiastes 4:10 “For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up.”
Proverbs 16:28 “A perverse man sows strife, and a whisperer separates the best of friends.”
