Why Your Mountain Won’t Move-you aren’t speaking to it!
Your mountain can show up in many different ways: it can be sickness, diseases, a mountain in your finances, your mind, or any struggle that you are facing that you feel is too big to handle on your own. When we are faced with a circumstance that isn’t a life-or-death situation or it isn’t that great of a challenge to overcome, we are certain that the Lord will help us get through it.
So, why can’t we trust God to help us when the mountain is massive and more difficult to conquer? The problem is that we lean on the Lord and take Him at His Word when it is a situation that doesn’t require us to have that radical Faith to defeat it. We know that God does not lie and if He said it, He will do it, Numbers 23:19. However, we tend to forget the Lord’s promises when we are in the midst of the tornadic storms!
Those should be the moments that we proclaim the Lord’s Word even more! Often times, we underestimate the Power of the Scriptures and see them as just something that we are required to read. Not even close! Hebrews 4:12 reveals to us, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
God’s Word is extremely Powerful and should always be used to destroy any mountain that is in your way. The Lord Jesus used the Word of God when the devil came against Him (Matthew 4:4,7,10), how much more do we need to use the Scriptures to tear down the strongholds in our lives!
God requires us to speak to the obstacles that are standing in our way, but why? Proverbs 18:21 is very clear as it states, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Speaking the Word of God will bring forth life, healing, deliverance, freedom to your body (Proverbs 4:20-22), and speaking out the devil’s lies will bring forth death, John 10:10.
When you are overcoming a trial in your life, especially if it is one that is seemingly hard to defeat, the last thing that you want to do is come into agreement the enemy’s words. All that does is reveal a lack of faith in the Power of God’s promises. Remember, God does not lie and will never go against what is written in the Scriptures. So, if it is promised in His Word, you can stand on it by Faith and expect results.
The Lord wants to show up in our lives and move on our behalf but the fact remains, it is impossible to please the Lord without faith, Hebrews 11:6. Speaking to your mountain by faith and telling it to move shows that you have the confidence and belief that God will and can move your mountain regardless of how impossible it may seem!
Let’s take a look at a passage of Scripture that reveal to us the importance of speaking to your Mountain.
Mark 11:23
“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
Here we can definitively see that Jesus is revealing to us to the Power of using our words. He uses the word “says” on three different occasions in this one passage of Scripture. That denotes the importance of that word! He isn’t telling us to hope the mountain will move, or to ask Him to move it for us, or to just let the mountain be.
Not even the slightest! In fact, He tells us to SPEAK to your mountain with no doubt or unbelief in your heart and tell that thing to move and get out of your way! It doesn’t matter how difficult your circumstance may seem, what your doctor’s report looks like, or how dire your situation is, NOTHING is impossible for God, Luke 1:37!
Get in the habit of speaking God’s Word over whatever your mountain happens to be and stand firm on His Promises. Do not waiver in your Faith or have doubt in your heart, James 1:6-8 is clear as it states, “…he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
You have to approach your mountain with absolutely no uncertainty and know that the Lord can help you overcome whatever you are facing. Over and over again throughout the Scriptures Jesus marvels at one that has mountain moving Faith, Matthew 8:5-13, Matthew 15:21-28, Luke 7:9, Mark 10:52, Luke 17:19. Every person in these verses of Scripture did not doubt for one moment that Jesus could do whatever it was they were asking Him to do!
Let’s look at another passage of Scripture that discloses to us the importance of speaking to your Mountain.
Matthew 17:20
“So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Let me disclose a little bit of backstory to this passage of Scripture before digger deeper into it so that we can have a clear understanding of what is going on. Jesus had sent His disciples out to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons, etc. and they were very successful in doing so.
However, when they came upon this scenario where a young boy was so demonically oppressed that the demon would cause him to throw himself into the fire or water in attempts to harm him (Matthew 17:15), the severity of the situation caused them to doubt. What Jesus says to them is extremely telling, Matthew 17:17 details, “Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”
Their lack of faith in the authority that Christ had given them prevented them from approaching the scenario with confidence. The size of the mountain that was in front of them was too intimidating even though they had been successfully casting out demons right before this young man was brought to them.
How many of us do the same thing? We have seen the Lord tear down and flatten mountain after mountain in our lives, yet we still doubt that He will do it again just because the Mountain that we are currently faced with is a bit larger than the ones before! God does not change and will not lie, and He is the same God that tore down your other mountains so why does our Faith change?
We need to make it a point to boldly proclaim His Word with no ounce of doubt in our hearts as we SPEAK to that mountain and tell it to move! God gave us His authority through Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross at Calvary, who are we to then taint the Power that His Name possesses? Not Today!
You tell whatever giant of an obstacle that is in your way that you are not having it: tell that sickness, disease, oppression, torment, pain, or that negative report that it has to line up with the Word of God and not the other way around!
If you ever doubt what the Lord’s will is for His children meditate on Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Anything outside of that proclamation is not God’s will for you!
Conclusion:
God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), if He did it before then He will do it again. If a person can raise someone from the dead through the Power of the Lord, there is not much of a bigger mountain that we would have to overcome! Do not let the size of your situation cause you to doubt the big God that you serve.
Over and over again God is telling us to “say” to our circumstance that it must MOVE! God never said, “well if the mountain is way too big, you might not be able to tear it down.” Not even close, in fact He made it clear that there was NOTHING too impossible for Him, Luke 1:37. We either believe it or we don’t!
